Have leftovers in the fridge for the next day?

Calories in naan are insane and they're not really that nice. I prefer paratha is I want fatty bread. Otherwise rotis or chapattis. And I only have one rice between two , or skip the rice if I'm having any of the breads. Want to use the calories for the curry and minimise carbs!

SatsumaFan · 04/04/2021 23:45

I was actually rather envious of my 10yr old as he polished off his whole chicken passanda (too sweet and creamy for my liking) and almost a whole rice and was doing that satisfied meal thing of stretching back in his chair and running his belly.

Next Sat night for me. Oh yes.

Never. I have teenagers.

SatsumaFan · 04/04/2021 23:52

@GreyhoundG1rl I have a mere 33 months until eldest is a teen. He's already an eating machine. I have no hope of leftovers when he's a teenager then?! Must make the most of them now Grin

I agree with a pp that next day curry actually tastes nicer...

We (me, dh, ds 6 and dd almost 3) order 3 main dishes, 4 starters, 1 nan and 2 rice dishes. We always get a 2nd meal out of it. If we didn't, we'd order more.

Pretty much. Mine would start eating the leg of the table if there wasn't enough food.

lovevlyt · 05/04/2021 00:04

Never, ever. Truly disgusting 🤢

BarbaraofSeville · 05/04/2021 07:16

With that amount of food for 4 people, I wouldn't expect leftovers, it's about the right amount.

But doesn't anyone talk to each other? You discuss what you want when ordering. When you're having the meal, you talk about how much you're enjoying the food, if you're getting full, whether you're planning to save some for lunch the next day etc and whether or not anyone wants anything saving or if it can go in the bin.

I always have a leftover lunch because any takeaway if you get curry, rice and a side, Chinese equivalent or a 12 inch pizza, that's two meals for me.

On the matter of rice, if it's not included in the price of the meal, which it usually is here, but if not, we don't buy it, because it's expensive for what you get. We keep microwave rice in and use that instead. Waitrose pilau rice is very good and only 70p.

Moomoolandmoomooland · 05/04/2021 07:24

Everyone needs a curry and a rice each surely?! Most of the ones we use are all sauce nowadays too. You need an entire naan bread to soak it all up.

@Ohnomoreno I don't think anyone ordering an Indian does so under the illusion it's a healthy, low calorie meal do they?

sashh · 05/04/2021 07:25

He's ordered me the curry and a rice TO SHARE, no naans, no poppadoms, no sides

What

LTB

I grew up 'up north' where every curry comes with a choice of rice, naan or chapatis included in the price.

Also who orders poppadums, they are usually free.

I always have left overs, I always get too starters because I love egg nargis and the mixed starter so one is eaten and one for the next day.

ChaBishkoot · 05/04/2021 07:28

100%. Although shamefully we are Indian and both DH and I are decent cooks. So we usually order Chinese rather than Indian tbh. DH is a small eater and I am not a big eater either so there is always always leftovers.
The other day I asked DH to order and he ordered everything but the rice. Food arrived. No rice. Said: well we can just make that at home now can’t we?
Aaarrrgh. Are you kidding me? He made the rice himself but I was sitting there starving and looking like a petulant teenager.

Pickledpenguin · 05/04/2021 07:30

Only talking to my mum last night about it. We always have leftovers in our houses which is lunch the next dat. Thats the entire point of a takeaway i thought ;) My brother and his wife have stunned us in the past by THROWING OUT leftovers. We have witnessed them cleaning up after a family gathering and chucking everything in the bin. Rices, curries, sides everything. We have been tempted to take them back out ofvthe bin on a few occasions. Madness.

sanityisamyth · 05/04/2021 07:34

Most of the time but there's only me who eats it so I order two meals to reach the free delivery limit and then put one of them in the freezer. I can only eat chicken korma (tomato allergy) and even jars of korma in supermarkets contain korma so I can't make it myself even if I wanted to!

TastefulLiving · 05/04/2021 07:36

100% of the time. Because Indian takeaway for breakfast is even better than Indian takeaway for dinner.

Indian dishes here are all sauce and no meat. We order 2 curries between 3 of us and a chicken tikka starter for extra meat + 2 rice and 2 naan. All the chicken is always finished. Teen ds eats loads, no idea where he fits it all!

You're going to the wrong places of it's all sauce and no meat!
Jellycatspyjamas · 05/04/2021 07:38

Always, we usually order a starter, two curries, one rice and one naan between two of us and there’s always half the curry, a bit of rice and half a naan for lunch the next day.

Silverfly · 05/04/2021 07:38

No naans Shock what's the point of an Indian takeaway with no naan bread?

cricketmum84 · 05/04/2021 07:39

Hardly ever. Youngest DD may have a bit left but she only ever orders a pizza. I also have a 16yo who thinks she is the very hungry caterpillar so if I do have anything left over she will gladly scran it!

Pickledpenguin · 05/04/2021 07:40

@Silverfly

No naans Shock what's the point of an Indian takeaway with no naan bread?
Exactly. The naan is my fave part.

On the pizza thing I order a larger one when getting it just so we can have toasted slices for breakfast.

fizbosshoes · 05/04/2021 07:46

We usually order (for 3 people) 1 main dish each, 2 side dishes, 1 rice , 1 nan bread each . Theres always left overs for next day.

cushioncovers · 05/04/2021 07:47

I always slightly over order an Indian takeout so that I have some left over for lunch the following day. I usually order a main dish, a rice and two sides just for me then split it into two.

00100001 · 05/04/2021 07:48

DH, DS17 and I ordered this last time and had left overs

Chili garlic Mogo
Chana Masala
Butter chicken
Jeera Rice
Gajar Halwa

We had some leftover for breakfast. Except the Halwa. But these portions are MASSIVE.

Graciebobcat · 05/04/2021 07:49

None, I won't want it again as leftovers and I only order what I can physically eat on the night (which is loads).

cushioncovers · 05/04/2021 07:49

Who orders an Indian takeout without a nan & popadums Shock

Graciebobcat · 05/04/2021 07:51

I would have prawn dhansak, share a portion of rice, a whole naan, two poppadoms and some lime pickle. Don't fancy it for breakfast though.
