Aggressive timer! What's your annoying household appliance?

(Lighthearted)

My oven timer is so aggressive! I know that awful shrill sound is the point - to jolt me out of whatever I'm doing incase I forget but who does it think it is summoning me like that?!

Same with the microwave timer sound. Just shut up, I've heard you - I'm coming!

Do you have any annoying household appliance?

@Aquamarine1029 I love my cheerful washing machine song! - Samsung?

Aquamarine1029 · 04/04/2021 20:32

@WorriedMillie

The newest attention seeking bit of twattish kit is the soup machine. Beep, beep, whirrrr, blend, blend, whirrr. Beepbeeepbeeepbeep. STFU

Oooh! You have a soup maker? Do you like it?

PattyPan · 04/04/2021 20:32

My dishwasher beeps every few minutes about 10 times when it’s finished unless you come and turn it off. It’s so loud and shrill you can’t possibly miss it - we can’t run the sodding thing over night because the beeping wakes us up.
On the other hand my washing machine is actually quite annoying because it doesn’t beep when it’s done, or make any sound. You just remember half an hour after it’s finished when you realise you can’t hear it spinning any more.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 04/04/2021 20:32

Microwave. It beeps when it’s finished (obviously) and then beeps every 30 seconds after that until you open and close the door. So needy.

KitchenWarrior · 04/04/2021 20:35

@HuntingoftheSnark

Washing machine. It finishes and beeps loudly. Several beeps. Thank you - helpful - I will open the door when I am ready. After a minute (I think) it does its series of beeps again (more piercingly) .... and again .... and again. It's only since I have been WFH and in the next room, in a meeting, that I have realised this.
I think we have the same machine. So needy. Such low self esteem. Drives me crackers! (Gap is one minute, then two, then three, four, five, on mine, so quarter of an hour of mid meeting intermittent beeping)
ViceVersa · 04/04/2021 20:35

My fridge has this habit of randomly groaning really loudly in a judgmental manner. It seems much worse in the evening when it’s knows I’ve had dinner and I look inside for a snack. I’ve been known to tell it to fuck off before Blush

I must have the same needy washing machine. It’s like an annoying Little child shouting ‘mum, mum, mum, mum’ at me. Alright, I heard you the first time. My dryer is like a stroppy teenager, it just does what it wants. Turns itself off after 5 minutes and doesn’t tell me. Or goes on for hours blowing cold air.

I’ve got a light switch in my hall. It has 4 switches but for reasons I can’t remember only 3 work. I’ve lived here 15 years and yet I always pick the dummy one. Every time.

Ooh yes, that happens here too! It's one of the reasons I set the phone alarm to remind me and that one just rings like it's been given 'job of the day' if I don't turn it off immediately.

My washing machine often beeps randomly and frequently during a cycle, don't know why and usually worse if you are stood next to it.
I once had a freezer with a door alarm that was going off far too often so I removed the thing that beeps, left my freezer door open overnight more than once after that...

That's exactly what mine does. You can't just leave whatever's in there and get it when you're ready. Nope, you're harassed till you do.

My trusty drier has captured a cat, and strangles it every time I use it....

AliasGrape · 04/04/2021 20:45

I also have a washing machine that sings a jaunty tune when it is finished. At.first its quite pleasant and you almost smile 'do do do do do do doooo do do do do do bee do bee doo' lovely, thanks washing machine, will get to you shortly. But it just keeps singing away, theres at least one chorus too many and it all starts to sound a bit desperate. Then if you continue to ignore it after the song has finished it will pipe up again after a few minutes of silence but this time it's just a sad little 'dooo do do do' - so passive aggressive

Aquamarine1029 · 04/04/2021 20:48

@AliasGrape

Is it a Samsung?

ViceVersa · 04/04/2021 20:49

Also the Siri HomePod. If I haven’t used it for a few days it’s starts craving attention and will randomly shout out “I’m sorry I don’t understand what you are looking for” when I’m quietly watching tv or having a nap. It has also twice blasted out ‘Ready to go’ by Republica in the early hours (at full volume) when I’ve never requested that song before and certainly didn’t ask for it at 3am! But when I want the dam thing to work it ignores me! Angry It honestly does as it pleases!

Drivingmyselfcrazee · 04/04/2021 20:51

My washer and dryer - beep, beep, bloody beep on repeat.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 04/04/2021 20:51

Alexa.

I think I have a daily argument with Alexa. Today must be special because I’ve had 3 arguments with her.

RiverSkater · 04/04/2021 20:56

Alexa doesn't like me, I ask for a radio station we listen to every day and she can't find it. DP gets everything he asks for. Must be my brummie accent.

AndyMurraysCat · 04/04/2021 20:56

My Samsung washing machine finishes with a cheerful song too 🙂

poppyzbrite4 · 04/04/2021 20:57

Washing machine. I often shout at it.

BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEP!!!!! BEEP BEEP BEEEEEEEP!!!!

HerRoyalNotness · 04/04/2021 21:00

The microwave. The only button that works is the 30sec button. Everything gets heated in increments of 30sec. If you open the door before it’s done you have to unplug to reset it. It’s a built in fan job and we haven’t replaced it because were going to redo the kitchen last year. Looking increasingly unlikely now.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 04/04/2021 21:01

@RiverSkater I’ve got a Manchester accent and she doesn’t listen to me either. I think it’s just that she doesn’t listen to women. DH has nowhere near the same number of arguments that I have with Alexa.

DailyMailHater · 04/04/2021 21:02

Our washing machine, it beeps when the cycle is finished but is a really horrible sound and it keeps going until you have switched it off...I have opened the door and been unloading the washing and it’s still beeping at me cause I haven’t hit the off button Angry

RiderGirl · 04/04/2021 21:13

Our old tumble drier used to play a beepy song when it had finished, not particularly annoying but my dog HATED it. We went out once and my daughter put the dog in the kitchen forgetting that the tumble drier was on, when we got back it was beeping merrily away and the dog had ripped the door frame off and chewed a hole through the door, poor soul it wasn't her fault. Our new washi gnachine also plays an irritatingly jaunty tune when it's finished, thankfully the dog has now gone deaf in her old age so it doesn't bother her

alphajuliet123 · 04/04/2021 21:13

Washing machine - it's an eco one apparently (didn't realise when I bought it) and hardly any water goes into it unless on 2 hour+ washes, which doesn't seem very eco. I have to do a quick rinse cycle before the proper hour long wash just to get everything properly wet. Stupid.

The longest cycle on it is 220 mins - almost 4 hours. WTF is eco about that?!

Anyway, waiting patiently for it to break...

Embarrasingly, I just had to check. It is indeed.
