What hoover do we need?

Our trusty Vax is just not sucking as well as it used to. No matter how often I clean it out and wash the filter. So we're in the market for a new one! I would love a Miele but my husband doesn't want a bagged hoover Hmm Must be an upright, so definitely no Henry or his family. I borrowed one for a while and I hated every minute I used that smiley little fucker, getting wedged on everything and tipping over at random Hmm

Vax blade.
Amazing suction and so easy to use and manoeuvre. I now sometimes do upstairs and down a few days a week instead of, reluctantly, dragging the vacuum cleaner upstairs only when it’s desperately in need of doing.

Easy to clean & change the filters and the amount of dirt it initially sucked out of the carpets, that our old cleaner obviously hadn’t been cleaning properly, was unreal. They look like new again. I would get one with the two battery packs though. We only have one and sometimes, if doing a huge clean such as under beds, behind sofas etc, the battery needs charging before being able to finish the whole thing.

Upright corded Shark with anti-hair wrap. I swear my carpets are a different colour to before it arrived Blush

I haven't heard great things about that anti hair wrap thing to be honest, it puts me off.

I second a Shark. Have had Miele before about 5 years ago - absolute overpriced crap. Get through many vacuums due to having a long haired dog and have to say Shark has been the best of them all.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 02/04/2021 21:37

Shark. Best hoover I’ve ever had, hands down, and I’ve had a lot.

I have two. A corded and a cordless. Love them.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 02/04/2021 21:42

So, looking at Sharks, I'm confused about the difference between lift away and powered lift away Confused

@AintNobodyHereButUsChickens I have a constantly shedding cat, and long hair myself that gets everywhere. It's managed both with absolutely no issues at all, I'm quite amazed by it to be honest.

My last was a Hoover branded cordless and I had to take it all apart EVERY time to cut my hair off the rollers Hmm

UnlikelybutTrue · 02/04/2021 21:46

I have a cordless shark and my neighbour a corded one. The corded is in a different league to my cordless one. I agree about the carpet looking shades lighter after using it. I can't have a corded as it is heavy and my shoulder and wrists are arthritic but it beats mine hands down.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 02/04/2021 21:47

I do think there’s a difference @AintNobodyHereButUsChickens. The loft away but is amazing- you essentially detach the dust canister from the upright hoover so you can either hold it or place it on the floor, then use the tools. I hoover my shutters and picture rails like this. The suction is adjustable but unbelievable. My carpets looks brand new every time I use it.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 02/04/2021 21:48

Sorry about typos, I’ve had a gin. But it makes the hoover portable essentially. I’ve just seen a Shark advert on telly I think they’ve got some offers on at the mo.

ImInStealthMode · 02/04/2021 21:48

@UnlikelybutTrue We have a theory that ours isn't actually heavy, it just seems like it because it's trying to pull the floorboards up Grin

queenofthenorthwest · 02/04/2021 21:49

Not a Henry ffs.

It's on its back at every turn

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 02/04/2021 21:50

@SaveWaterDrinkGin yes my Vax is a lift away, I just don't understand what the difference is between lift away and powered lift away Confused

This is the corded one I have- the pictures explain what I mean a lot better than I have!

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 02/04/2021 21:51

I don’t think there is a difference.

ImInStealthMode · 02/04/2021 21:58

I googled it! Lift-away is just as it sounds, powered lift away means power is still supplied to the vacuum head so rollers on tools etc will still work even in lift-away mode, rather than just the suction.

SaveWaterDrinkGin · 02/04/2021 22:03

@ImInStealthMode ahh that makes sense!

Staffroomdoughnut · 02/04/2021 22:08

Thinking about getting a cordless blade 4. Is that what you’ve got @Everythingiswonderful?

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/04/2021 22:20

Shark Powered lift away. It's a heavy vacuum but fuck me it's AMAZING.

Literally worth every penny.

MrsBungle · 02/04/2021 22:23

God I hate my shark. I have to take the bloody thing apart practically every time I Hoover. I bought it just before Christmas and feel like I totally wasted my money. Mine is a cordless anti wrap. It’s absolutely shite.

PickAChew · 02/04/2021 22:26

For an upright, you can't go wrong with Sebo.

bubblebath62636 · 02/04/2021 22:27

I love our shark (2 dogs here), it's easy clean the hair thing only takes a minute.

Letsgetbizzy · 02/04/2021 22:41

I have a shark liftaway - which is ace.... however I bought a robot hoover about march last year and its amazing 👏😍🙌

MyGrassIsBrowner · 02/04/2021 22:54

@MrsBungle You went wrong when you got a cordless 😉
