Has anyone ordered from Amazon.com

I'm after a kitchenaid hand mixer and it's from the kitchenaid store but it's only available on Amazon.com (so coming from USA).

Don't know whether it's safe to order or no? Anyone have any experience? It's actually working out £50 cheaper than the uk kitchenaid site even after all postage charges are included.

Will you have to pay tax on it here? I ordered a toy from America years ago and when it arrived I paid about 20% extra in tax. The toy cost 100 quid but I had to pay 20 when I collected it. Dont know if this is still the case?

AnnaFiveTowns · 01/04/2021 18:59

I mean I had to pay 20.pounds extra when it arrived

Dryadia · 01/04/2021 19:03

Did buy a book from .com some time ago, wanted one only ready available in the US, took awhile to arrive and there was duties to pay ( the only expensive coffee table book we own, LOL).

LostPencilSOS · 01/04/2021 19:03

Ah I see what you mean @AnnaFiveTowns . It says if I select tracked shipping then all custom duties etc are paid on my behalf . It's 5 dollars more and I need it sooner anyway was going to select that anyway. Just a little nervous as I've never ordered from Amazon.com before !

Dryadia · 01/04/2021 19:04

Be aware duty is charged on full price not any sale price.

LostPencilSOS · 01/04/2021 19:04

Ooh @Dryadia I am curious about your coffee table book now ! Wink

Whenever I've bought, all the charges have been in the delivery cost (from Amazon) I'm sure the plug will obviously be different and think electrical items from.america have a different wattage or something so that might be worth checking.

botemp · 01/04/2021 19:12

It'll be a US plug and if it's 110v you'll need a transformer which makes it more expensive and annoying to use. Otherwise, shopping with Amazon.com is easy enough and hassle free but buying US electronics is probably not the best idea, also wrt guarantees.

LostPencilSOS · 01/04/2021 19:17

Omg I completely forgot that the plug will be different !!!! Didn't know about the voltage difference either !!

So grateful for Mumsnet Grin

I shop regularly on Amazon for years and never had a problem. Excellent service, often get next day delivery.

diamondpony80 · 01/04/2021 19:50

Ive bought a few things from Amazon.com and never had a problem getting stuff. It normally arrives a lot quicker than I’d expect from USA.

CoconutLassi · 01/04/2021 20:06

Not in answer to your question but have you considered ordering direct from KitchenAid? It's a bit pricier (if you have a know someone with a blue light card you can get 15% off) but none of the worry.

Next day delivery from America? Now that IS impressive.

Or did you maybe not quite read the OP Confused

Holothane · 01/04/2021 20:22

I’ve had dvds off them for years never a problem.

stevematekatemate · 01/04/2021 20:26

You will have major voltage problems.

longtompot · 01/04/2021 20:34

I've only used the .com to buy things in the US to be delivered in the US.

You can buy it from this site. A little more money but not that much. I've used this site before and never had an issue www.hartsofstur.com/kitchenaid-velvet-blue-9-speed-hand-mixer-5khm9212bvb.html

longtompot · 01/04/2021 20:56

Just looked and it is slightly different. Maybe contact Kitchen Aid and see if they are releasing it over here.

LostPencilSOS · 01/04/2021 20:58

@longtompot it's not the same . The one I want is the cordless one, the newer one ..doesn't seem to be in blue anywhere in the uk Sad

Whenever I've ordered from the American Amazon site, which has actually been quite a bit, all taxes etc have been included in the shipping etc bit.

amylou8 · 01/04/2021 21:12

You'll need a 240-110 v transformer otherwise it won't work (and likely blow up).

Sansaplans · 01/04/2021 21:14

Agree that unfortunately the plug will be a pain in the arse.

amusedbush · 01/04/2021 23:29

Yep, the voltage will be the issue. Our voltage would fry it very quickly.

I really wanted a Keurig coffee machine as I love the Dunkin Donut coffee pods when I’m in the US (when they have one in the hotel room I buy myself a box of the cinnamon bun coffee pods and a bottle of DD creamer Blush) but I was too worried about voltage issues, even with a converter.

Years ago I am across my dream house in California, currently on the market for $10 million. Sad

The book's by a firm of Architects covering different Courtyard House styles, my house is the first chapter . I now have my own photos that are not going to disappear off the internet one day. I love, love the cellar courtyard & covered seating area in between the master and living room. The whole book is bloody beautiful though.

This is the house

The property tax alone is over $80,000 a year!!!!!! So would have this built here in the UK if I could, just need to find the perfect coastal view, oh and millions to build it. Grin My sims character however has been living in this house for about 5 years Grin

LostPencilSOS · 03/04/2021 19:46

That's lovely @Dryadia but I'm finding it hard to find the connection with my op.
