Any good ideas for April fools to play on my kid?

She is 5. I told her about April Fools the other day and she was delighted, telling me there were dragons and the like outside the window and shouting ‘TRICKED YOU’! Want to think of something that will fool her for a while over her breakfast but make her laugh when she finds out.

I safety pinned my DS’s school trouser bottoms together around that age. Do you know what she’ll be wearing tomorrow?

Chewbecca · 31/03/2021 22:04

Or could you pop some food colouring in the milk or her breakfast bowl?

doodlejump1980 · 31/03/2021 22:06

My twins are going to pretend to be each other tomorrow to trick their teacher 😂

UhtredRagnarson · 31/03/2021 22:06

I’m thinking of telling mine the landlord is coming over so they have to clean their rooms...

FunnyInjury · 31/03/2021 22:06

My dad tricked us with a "double yolk" fried egg when I was about that age Smile

Leak in the bathroom or kitchen (if she knows what a leek is!)

Spottysausagedogs · 31/03/2021 22:14

I remember my Mum once telling me that my friend's parents (lived just up the road) had been in touch and said they had tickets for alton towers and had asked me to go. I was over the moon, but then heartbroken, totally grief stricken when she admitted it was an April fools joke. I cried so much. I was probably about 8 or 9.
So don't do that Grin
You could do something funny with her toys a la elf on the shelf? The food colouring in the milk sounds funny too.

Merename · 31/03/2021 22:15

She wears dresses. But I like your style, Chew! Food colouring maybe.

Twins are just ready made for this game!

So how does that work, Funny, just cook two eggs together?

Uhtred, also points for style and functionality...

We have a leek in the fridge, Around? Wink

Haha spotty! Note to self, do not trick child and then crush their dreams. Check.

My Dad used to wake us up at about 3am change all the clocks etc and tell us it was time to get up. It would be sometime after getting dressed and eating breakfast etc he would tell us it was still only about 4am.

UhtredRagnarson · 31/03/2021 22:21

You could switch loads of things from her room into your room overnight and put your stuff in hers.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 31/03/2021 22:23

Orange jelly in a glass instead of fruit juice.
Make up a bowl of cereal and milk, and freeze it.

Merename · 31/03/2021 22:25

Bunny Shock F that!!! I get woken up at 3am enough thank you, I am not that committed to this cause Grin

Lovely your child is delighted OP

I'm a total misery I know but I just cannot get parents trying to humiliate their kids with pranks.

It's ok when everyone is laughing but it's usually not.

I know, I know I'm miserable !

GojiberryStar · 31/03/2021 22:39

@sunflowersandbuttercups

Orange jelly in a glass instead of fruit juice. Make up a bowl of cereal and milk, and freeze it.

See that's a tame and lovely joke.

Very different to this -
Parent at school last year videoed them telling their kid lockdown was cancelled and kid had to go back to school. Had uniform ready and everything. Kid had meltdown. Was so upset. Then when told the truth child was furious. All on video Said parent shared video with laughing emojis. Poor kid.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 31/03/2021 22:39

I'm going to stash all my kids right shoes tomorrow. See how long it takes them to work it out.

That’s horrible.

One year my sister told me New Kids on the Block would be playing our local theatre and that I had to get my mum to get tickets quick! My mum (bless her!) rang the theatre while I jumped around the living room weeing myself with excitement.

The only show they had on was Button Moon.

My sister still laughs about it.

Kanaloa · 31/03/2021 22:48

I hate pranks and practical jokes but I like the orange jelly instead of juice for breakfast. That’s a nice joke that wouldn’t upset anyone and I can imagine laughing about it when she’s older.

That would only be funny if I didn't really have to be at school that day lol.
OwlInAnOakTree · 31/03/2021 22:56

Ooh thanks Sunflowers...just going to pop back downstairs to put DS's orange juice and cereals in the freezer overnight. Smile

Petalpup · 31/03/2021 23:03

@7catsandcounting. Complete tangent but I remember seeing button moon at the theatre! You must have been gutted though-hope you got her back.

My mum used to tell us it was snowing and we’d run to the window and she’d say April fool.

I’m not keen on the getting hopes up and then crushing them type pranks or the humiliating ones.

I used to like spotting them in the papers. There weren’t any last year I don’t think with everything being so unbelievable anyway!

WeAllHaveWings · 31/03/2021 23:03

Get her to draw a big B and run tell her dad there is a big bee in her bedroom

Ah lovely 😊

My kind of April fool

Littlefiendsusan · 31/03/2021 23:12

@WeAllHaveWings that's perfect, I'm stealing your idea, thank you!
