Any good ideas for April fools to play on my kid?

She is 5. I told her about April Fools the other day and she was delighted, telling me there were dragons and the like outside the window and shouting ‘TRICKED YOU’! Want to think of something that will fool her for a while over her breakfast but make her laugh when she finds out.

Meanwhile this morning my child has placed masking tape over the laser on my work mouse so it wouldn't work.
Took me ages to work out what was wrong.

They've even drawn a smiley face on the tape.

Good fun and gentle (though after midday so technically not valid 😀)

My teenage son was shouting at someone over his gaming headset this morning - quite unusual for him - and then there was a loud bang. I went into his room and his whole tv screen was shattered/ multicoloured. I was so shocked and started telling him off. He burst out laughing - he was playing a smashed screen on YouTube! He got me good

This year I froze bowls of breakfast cereal for the dc, replaced all their underwear with their df's giant boxers and emptied a packet of crisps by a hole in the bottom, filled them with a note saying "April Fool!" and resealed them. All went down well.

Dd1 changed dp's computer login to Mr Stinkpants which I thought was quite funny.

In previous years we have:
Newspapered their bedroom door.
Wrapped a wooden egg in Cadburys creme egg wrapper.
Offered them a brownie (brown E)
Drawn a moustache on them in eyeliner pencil during the night

I love a fairly harmless joke!

Mine has been busy planning lots of pranks, he's going to be really disappointed when I tell him that today is not, Infact, March 32nd

We played a whole host of harmless tricks on ds one year, we did the leek in the sink, the big B, offered him a cup of tea which was a cup with a magnet letter t in, filled his shoes with potatoes and called him from upstairs telling him to hurry because his cousin was on tv, he came down to find a photo of his cousin perched on top of the tv. He found them all funny if slightly annoying, dh and I found it hilarious Grin

I once tried the freezing cereal trick on my DCs, so the milk was solid with the spoon in too.

DS cried 😳 oops.

Petalpup · 01/04/2021 17:44

Ds said his teacher had given them an April fools day word search with words like ‘trick’, ‘prank’ etc to find. Except they weren’t there Grin I thought that was quite a good one!

They also got told they were getting a swimming pool at school which they all thought was an April fool but is actually true!!

Glad you all enjoyed the big B.

Next year you can move onto the "I've accidently done a P in my bed" 🤣

I miss ds being that young, he loved these simple pranks on his dad too! Now I just get a shrug 🤷🏻‍♀️

Last year I told my dad that his younger sister was pregnant. She was 59. He got all panicked and flustered, called all of his older brothers first to find out what they knew, and then rang my aunty asking if she was OK. I'm 31 Blush

DP and I are absolutely howling at this one!

I hate pranks that are at the expense of someone but lots on here are harmless fun.

I must admit in my younger days the worst April Fool I played (as part of a group) was in the early hours of the 1st. We were at a party and a mate who was quite the village bike lad about town had slipped off home with a girl we also knew. We text him from a number we knew he didn't have saved, claiming to be pregnant and acting terribly offended that he didn't know who we were, and outraged that there might be more than one recent partner to choose from. Probably not quite as fair as the lovely young DC appropriate jokes in this thread though Blush

To the poster who said the dc cried with the frozen spoon in bowl of cereal- I did that to mine 2 years ago and they also cried! They also have told everyone who will listen how much they disliked it! I was honestly baffled as I found it very harmless and a gentle joke-still do! I’m going to steal some of these lovely ideas

I did lots of Googly eyes around the house - on the kettle and toaster, bottles of milk, and everyone's phone/iPad screens etc. It was quite tough doing them last night without anyone noticing until this morning. I'm not much of a joker, so I think it made them appreciate it even more - DD15 kept giggling when she pulled something else out and saw the eyes 👀. Lovely, innocent and silly. Great to relieve some lockdown ennui.
