Psychics

I had a psychic phone reading the other day. The reader had fabulous reviews but already the opposite of what he predicted came true. Yes, I've been conned.

Just out of curiosity has anyone ever had a good psychic reading?

I hope no money changed hands.

ParkheadParadise · 31/03/2021 20:12

Yes me. It was a face to face consultation. I've never done a phone one.
I waited for nearly 6 mths for the appointment. I've been to her several times now.

Yes v accurate reading.. Bit scary and made me feel a bit unsettled

wheresmymojo · 31/03/2021 20:18

My DM did. This was years and years ago, before social media existed.

He recorded the session and I listened to it afterwards.

DM definitely wasn't giving anything away and yet he went into huge amounts of detail...

Examples:

  • She'd get married to a man with a moustache who runs his own business and drives two cars
  • Your DD (me) will get back in touch with her DF. He also did a very accurate job of explaining my personality type!
  • Your brother will have a child and it will be a boy

Cant remember everything as this was 20 years ago but it was totally accurate and far too much detail to be a 'con'

wheresmymojo · 31/03/2021 20:19

I personally wouldn't use a 'phone line' one though. I assume they're all cons.

While I believe some people can read the future I think they're rare and most psychics are cons.

I'd only go to someone with good personal recommendations

PoptartPoptart · 31/03/2021 20:20

It’s all bullshit.
No one can read other people’s minds, see into the future, or tell you things about your past if they have never met you before.
It’s just very clever trickery.

Polkagirls · 31/03/2021 20:25

As teenager my husband was told he would marry someone whose name began with the same constatent as my name does and would have 4 girls (we do)

gokartdillydilly · 31/03/2021 20:28

Yep. All bullshit, all con artists. A scientist once put out a huge reward for anyone who could prove themselves to be psychic, and not one person came forward. Presumably they were all too busy collecting their lottery/horse-racing wins

In fairness, lots of men have moustaches and own businesses, lots of people’s brothers have sons, and Derren Brown’s experiment alone demonstrated that a completely generic ‘personality reading’ is accepted by most as describing them accurately. And what about all the stuff from this ‘psychic’ that was way off the mark?

Research shows people over-report accurate guesses and underestimate what percentage of a total ‘reading’ was wrong.

LizBennet · 31/03/2021 20:32

I’m sure many have had a “good reading”, doesn’t mean the “psychic” has magical powers though. I hate how grieving people are usually their prey.

ParkheadParadise · 31/03/2021 20:36

I've been told things about my mum and dd that she couldn't have guessed or made up.

G5000 · 31/03/2021 21:29

It's all bullshit and con. Just watch some Derren Brown videos, he tells people amazing things that he possibly could not have known. He's not psycic.

chichat · 31/03/2021 21:54

@VeniVidiWeeWee - thanks for sharing that article. I've never believed Sally Morgan. It's those silly voices she puts on when supposedly connecting with spirit. Does she make predictions as well?

I can only comment with the following:

"MARY LOVES DICK"

UhtredRagnarson · 31/03/2021 22:00

Yes, I've been conned.

Well, yes. What did you expect? Psychics aren’t a real thing!

chichat · 31/03/2021 22:10

@punkstrumpet -sorry don't follow

@UhtredRagnarson - I am a bit intuitive myself so I find I am fascinated by psychics and mediums. I've learnt my lesson though.

Went to one year's ago with a few friends, it was a bit of a laugh but we all had readings with similar 'themes'. For example we were all told that we either had someone in our family who had cancer/will get cancer! I don't think there are many families that haven't been affected by cancer in some way, so that seems like something you could say just to fill a void. Same thing re someone in each of our families having a drink problem, I'm in Ireland, so again, most families I know will have someone who drinks too much! She didn't get any kind of personal details right, kept telling me that I definitely worked with my hands, suggested that I was a hairdresser. When I told her she was wrong and that I was a child minder, she said that is working with your hands too and what she had meant to say was that I could be a hairdresser if I wanted to be one! Also, two of the girls I was with are twins, but not identical, but she didn't even pick up that they were related and gave them different details about their family. We had a laugh in the car comparing notes on the way home but I don't believe that there are any real ones, it's all just bullshit!

chichat · 31/03/2021 22:32

@punkstrumpet - OK watched the Derek Acorah clip. Thanks for the laugh kindred Smile

I had an excellent one 20 years ago!

But i've tried a couple of times after that, paid a small fee - $5 or something, not like you get now, and not likely to try again. I think there's the odd person who might be tuned into stuff but they are vanishingly rare.

spiderlight · 31/03/2021 22:42

I had the most awful reading a couple of years ago, so inaccurate that it would have been funny if I hadn't been reeling from three close family bereavements in four weeks. It was all such obvious cold reading and I felt ten times worse at the end of it. I'd just wanted a tiny glimmer of hope :(

AcornAutumn · 31/03/2021 22:45

I should clarify, the one I had was a general one to see what might happen in the future, I tend to hear "fortune teller" when people say "psychic", i've never looked for a spirit medium.

almostweekend · 09/04/2021 07:28

I had a reading with a medium. She got the name of a family member right (not a particularly common name like John) and some other things right.

There were some names she mentioned that didn't mean anything to me. I think that's the thing with readings - even good readers don't get everything right.

I'm saving my money in future Smile

Temp023 · 09/04/2021 07:33

A psychic told me I’d marry a Scottish Doctor, I am happily married to an English Engineer but I suppose there is still time!
