Children’s mispronunciations which have stuck.

My son said ‘macamori’ instead of macaroni when he was younger. The whole family still refer to it as macamori, years later.

My friends son would ask for a ‘dinky dous’ when he wanted a drink of juice. We still say that now.

Any similar children’s mispronunciation’s which the whole family have adopted as their own?

We get our school shoes from Clanks - look at the sign and you'll see DC2 is right!

Glitter for litter ( rather beautiful we always thought)

noblegreenk · 30/03/2021 23:09

Jew-away for juice. Our DD always said this instead of juice and it's stuck. I'd like to just add that we're in no way anti semitic!

My friends little girl couldn't say our dogs name when she was little so said Shera instead of Sheila (names been changed but sounds similar) and we still call our dog that as a nickname.
My ed used to call milk nuk, so we call it that sometimes too.

Cubabumber - cucumber

It will be sad when these all go.

I think they're sort of more like Spoonerisms (?), but have the bumble fryer (tumble dryer) and the bishbosher (dishwasher).

TiddyTid · 30/03/2021 23:16

Crips-pss-pss for crisps. My DD is 25 now and I still say it.

My DB used to say case instead of bus and he's 44 now. I still say that too.

sandieshaw · 30/03/2021 23:16

Not quite the same - we have a spider-spoon (spaghetti server) but it does serve our pisketti.

Halo1234 · 30/03/2021 23:17

Mee mee for dummy. No idea why or how we worked it out but we knew when my ds said mee mee he ment dummy. Sounds nothing like it. Now his little sisters dolls have a mee mee. And his days of asking for a mee mee are long gone.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 30/03/2021 23:18

Stepharoo78 · 30/03/2021 23:20

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/03/2021 23:24

@Fuckingfuckssake

Underbrella for umbrella, which makes perfect sense when you think about it. Before that she called it a Doo Be Doo because we would do Singing In The Rain whenever we used it.
We have underbrellas too! Dd is almost 24 now

I’m loving all these toddlerisms

theworks · 30/03/2021 23:24

My daughter says mimi / mee mee for dummy too! Again no clue where from.
RosesAndHellebores · 30/03/2021 23:27

Minty instead of spicy. DH still asks if chilli or a curry is minty.

Waffoo is a feather

Squizzer is a squirrel
