Been looking at a yoto player for DS3, I like the look and idea but its fairly pricey and don't want to make an expensive mistake. Anyone love/hate them?

We love ours! I got it for Xmas as a joint present for our 3 kids and was concerned whether it would be used enough to justify the cost but it’s been so popular we’re thinking about getting a second one. It’s used daily and has lots of additional features like radio, podcasts, night light etc

monstermunchbunch · 29/03/2021 20:28

I got one for dd3, after everyone raved about them. She is not interested at all. Really disappointed, as all the other kids seem to really enjoy them. Think I've listened to it more than she has!
Hoping it's something she will get more into as she gets older...

user64332 · 29/03/2021 20:38

I got one for my son's 4th birthday and thought it would be a faddy purchase but it hasn't been at all! We all love it in our house and I will shortly be getting a second one so we have one for upstairs and downstairs. My 7 year old likes it even more than my 4 year old. We regularly listen to the Yoto daily podcast. I love the music cards in particular, my 4 year old enjoys the phonics games. We have the subscription for 2 new cards every month. One of the best features for me is the night time radio station, and also you can play white/pink/brown noise which always had my son out like a light if he just won't settle at bedtime. It is really easy to make your own cards too, you can download content for free from YouTube and the app is easy to use.

One of my favourite things is being able to take it outside, when I'm trying to get the kids outside and off screens it just keeps us going if we are listening to a story or music. I've even taken it to the park to have music while having a picnic.

How sturdy are the cards? I think my DD would like it, but she destroys everything.

Similar to a debit card I would say, or a boots advantage card type thing.
WhateverHappenedToFayWray · 29/03/2021 21:32

I've just bought one for my daughter and she loves it

user64332 · 29/03/2021 21:53

Yeah the cards are like a bank card, sturdy plastic. My kids are destructive and we've never had an issue. If one did get lost or broken, you still have the card on the app so you can still play it from your phone to the player, or you can re-write it on to a make your own card.

DeZookeeper · 29/03/2021 23:17

Cheers, so any sort of credit card holder would work for the cards? Imagine without a 'home', they would get spread around the house in 2 seconds flat

In theory, yes. On the Facebook group most people who have bought them have said they wish they'd bought the official one because the cheap card holders are hard to get them in and out of or rip easily. I took that on board and eventually bought the official card holder but I did resent how expensive it was. Until you've built up a big collection though you could just put them in a pencil case or another small container?

OctupusObsidian · 03/04/2021 18:53

I am really interested in learning more about these - just heard of them today through Local Facebook Group.

  1. Can they be used on a plane?
  2. When it talks about creating your own content, does it mean your own stories from scratch? Ie. if I have a favourite meditation can I record that onto a card somehow?
  3. Sort of related to the plane question but does it need to be connected to power? If not, how long does the charge last?
SuperDuperJezebel · 03/04/2021 19:36

@OctupusObsidian
1 - it could with headphones but it would probably take up a lot of space in your bag
2 - you can record that onto a blank card via the app
3 - a full charge lasts approximately 8h

OctupusObsidian · 03/04/2021 19:47

@SuperDuperJezebel thank you so much for the response. It looks quite good, but pricey!

Although the cards seem cheaper than audible.

byvirtue · 03/04/2021 20:06

Do not let your child chew the cards....talking from bitter experience. Other than that they are brilliant!

Hi this is my referral code:

prz.io/Log95doi

My two have just got them and LOVE them! ❤️

ThreeLittleTykes · 06/04/2021 20:24

The Yoto player is GREAT! We got one for Christmas and all three of our kids love it. Our six year old will spend hours listening to it, carrying it all over the house with him. It has almost completely replaced the TV in our house. As well stories, they have some great educational cards as well... and it comes with a night time radio station that plays really relaxing music and helps our three year old get to sleep. Honestly, couldn't recommend it enough!

If you use this code you get 10% off too :) prz.io/qOVmRrjT8

Anyone is free to use that code!

ThreeLittleTykes · 06/04/2021 20:27

(Another great thing about it is that you can play the cards from the app either on your phone, or through the player. So even if they do get lost you can still listen to them...)

user64332 · 06/04/2021 20:45

Ok I wasn't sure if we were allowed to post referral codes on public forums but since other people have I'm going to go ahead and post mine too.

3rd Yoto broken in 4 months. We bought this for Christmas from my son. First one didn't work out of the box and we were sent a replacement. 2nd one worked just long enough for him to love it (about a month) and then stopped charging. We were sent a replacement which lasted about 2 months. Then all the cards stopped playing correctly. Skipping from chapter to chapter. I've just got in touch with Yoto requesting a full refund for the player and the cards as I'm sick of this now. Toddlers are hard enough to put to bed without having this stress.

studentvera · 14/04/2021 06:51

Sorry you've had so much bad luck. So far we've had no problems and my little one absolutely loves it!! Here is my referral code for £10 off:

They’re brilliant. We ended up getting two- one for each child as they listen to them at bedtime after we’ve done bedtime stories for them. They keep their charge for 8 hours. The make your own cards are brilliant- we’ve recorded their favourite stories for them, and also their grandparents have too (they just need to download the app, and then you have to press some buttons on your yoto to link it). They also use the camp fire card when playing with their teddies, and also the radio, and my oldest, 7, listens to the podcasts which we access from the app. Expensive, but if looked after then they are brilliant. The kids now have asked for the books to match the stories so they read along with it.

Justmemyself · 23/04/2021 21:20

We love ours too. It has gets listened to every day here and is easily the best thing we've bought for ages. My discount code is prz.io/pERzrJyFO
