So, I've got just over a stone of lockdown weight to loose. I spent the week doing 16/8 fasting and cutting out carbs. I love carbs Smile so was really difficult. I struggled to not be hungry but carried on.

After missing my weekend drink and all the other nice things like a biscuit with a cuppa, I had my weigh in tonight..........

Nothing! Lost absolutely nowt. Angry

Now trying not to give in and eat a weeks worth of crap in one sitting.

Just needed a rant!

Are you exercising? You have to.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 28/03/2021 22:29

Did you count calories and/or macros of everything you are and drank? Did you drink plenty of water too - lots of people lose several pounds in the first week, but most of it is water.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 28/03/2021 22:30

Most weight loss is due to diet. About 90%.

Its your 1st week give yourself a break. Cmon. Your body is probably a bit shocked...

And starving???? Why.. literally no need for that. Look at Team RH. Sensible advice, Sensible calories and sustainable...

Souther · 28/03/2021 22:32

A week isnt long enough give it 4 weeks. And also check the calories.
Log everything that passes your lips.
Not eating carbs should give you a good result quite quick. But as long as you monitor your calories too.

Cattitudes · 28/03/2021 22:32

Firstly you didn't gain weight, secondly it will get easier as your body is used to eating less food. There are also fluctuations over the course of a month as well due to hormones.

MrsPernicious · 28/03/2021 22:32

Where are you in your cycle?

I used to vary by over half a stone each and every month, be nice to your self and carry on eating healthily.

I can't exercise due to Long Covid but recently lost 16 pounds so that's not actually true
Auntycorruption · 28/03/2021 22:34

I have this same problem. It's so depressing

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 28/03/2021 22:36

Starving yourself isn't the answer. Physically emotionally and mentally.
You've got to eat to get your motabalism going.
There's more to life than what you weigh

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 28/03/2021 22:38

You're probably not in sufficient calorie deficit @Auntycorruption - whatever regime you are following, you need to take in fewer calories than you expend. That's why counting calories is important, especially if portion control is an issue.

RubyFakeLips · 28/03/2021 22:39

Things that make the biggest difference to my dieting success are hormones and fluids.

Are you due on?

Try drinking 3L a day.

Also caffeine is a good appetite suppressant while your body adjusts to food reduction.

You don’t HAVE to exercise but if you are particularly sedentary due to lockdown you might benefit from doing something light to get you metabolism going.

Auntycorruption · 28/03/2021 22:41

I do know this in theory. But in reality it seems different.

I've eaten 1400-1600 cals for last 2 weeks. Walked 15-20,000 steps a day. Couple of runs. No chocolate or bread. Surely it shouldn't be this hard

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 28/03/2021 22:42

This is me when I get onto 16/8 for the first two weeks, then suddenly il drop pounds

In the first week I get a lot less bloated and lighter in general. More energy and slept better but your body needs to get used to a different eating pattern.

I have a black tea first thing then filtered water until my fast ends.

I end it with a smal hand ful of nuts or a baby bel usually and then normally don't eat again til my evening meal.

I make sure there's enough protein on my plate with the veg etc but I try not to eat anything sweet straight after as this sets my cravings off and makes me hungry.

Give it another few days and you will notice how less hungry you feel if your eating enough good proteins and fats in your eating window.

And try to drink plenty of water.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 28/03/2021 22:48

Aunty how have you decided what your calories should be to lose weight? Are you sticking to them? A 200 calories a day deficit should produce weightloss, but you won't lose weight if 1500 calories is the amount your body needs to maintain your current weight.

BashfulClam · 28/03/2021 22:59

@FortunesFave

Are you exercising? You have to.
I’ve lost 15lb in 7 weeks from dieting and no exercise. So no you don’t HAVE to @FortunesFave
WannabeOT · 28/03/2021 23:04

This is really unsustainable. I always lose with low carb but I love carbs so it doesn't last long. Also, why on earth would you weigh yourself at night? My weight fluctuates by around 2kg during the day. Do it first thing in the morning or after a poo. I was 69kg when I got up this morning. 71.9 this afternoon.

Cahu58 · 28/03/2021 23:10

I've been doing 16/8 since the 1980's before it was even a thing. I read a book called fit for life which recommended not breaking the fast until midday. I've just had emergency gallbladder removal and not eating breakfast is a cause of gallstones... most painful experience of my life

bellsbuss · 28/03/2021 23:14

I never lose weight in the first thing week of dieting but normally have a good loss in the second.

Sorry, how is not eating breakfast linked to gallstones?

Correlation is not causation etc

I don't like to eat early

OP I am losing weight very slowly, not fasting but it certainly took a couple of weeks to start.

Imfromhere · 28/03/2021 23:37

Thanks everyone.

Calories have been about 800 a day. So deficient. I'm all new to this, thought I would have seen some change!

I am due on so that might be part of the problem.

I resisted the chocolate biscuits Grin and will plod on.

Fasting decreases gallbladder movement, which causes the bile to become overconcentrated with cholesterol which can cause gallstones.

This is mn dieting advice at its best

Sorry about your gallstones and wishing you a speedy recovery

But really...? Not eating breakfast causes gallstones ...it’s a myth

Right, I see

I wouldn't consider fasting anyway but I feel for you, hope you are recovering well.
