So, I've got just over a stone of lockdown weight to loose. I spent the week doing 16/8 fasting and cutting out carbs. I love carbs Smile so was really difficult. I struggled to not be hungry but carried on.

After missing my weekend drink and all the other nice things like a biscuit with a cuppa, I had my weigh in tonight..........

Nothing! Lost absolutely nowt. Angry

Now trying not to give in and eat a weeks worth of crap in one sitting.

Just needed a rant!

Ok sorry, I should have explained... fasting can cause gallstones...

Tippexy · 28/03/2021 23:56

Never ever do an evening weigh in!!

Cahu58 · 28/03/2021 23:57

The type of fasting I did for 30 years was to miss breakfast....

This too.

@Imfromhere

Thanks everyone.

Calories have been about 800 a day. So deficient. I'm all new to this, thought I would have seen some change!

I am due on so that might be part of the problem.

I resisted the chocolate biscuits Grin and will plod on.

If you're due on your period then that could explain it, I always put at least a couple of pounds on over my period but they're gone again when it ends so I'd hold off weighing yourself again until it's been and gone.

Also, measure inches around your waist as well. I lost nearly 2 stone last year before getting pregnant and there was quite a few weeks that I hadn't lost any weight but had lost inches round my waist or had clothes fit me better etc. If your body is strengthening up/gaining muscle at all you won't lose pounds but doesn't mean you're not losing. A soft tape measure and note it down each week/fortnight.

As others have said, make sure to drink plenty of water aswell. Also make sure you're not starving yourself too much, you know your body better than us but 800 calories doesn't seem like much at all. You do want to be in a deficit but if you're starving all the time you're not going to be able to sustain it. Try focusing more on eating better, filling foods and portion control rather than starving yourself so your hungry all the time.

You'll get there, keep going😁

SatsumaFan · 29/03/2021 00:03

800 kcals a day is shockingly low. No wonder you were starving!! Shock

Lou98 · 29/03/2021 00:04

Also, weigh yourself first thing in the morning. Depending what/when you've eaten during the day before weighing can change the weight on the scales so to accurately see if you've lost/gained weight, best weighing yourself in the morning when you're stomach is empty

Hollywhiskey · 29/03/2021 00:05

Yes yes yes to team RH.

Lovingspring · 29/03/2021 00:07

Weigh yourself in the morning before eating or drinking.

Imfromhere · 29/03/2021 00:15

I don't usually eat a huge amount. Before the diet I was logging calories out of curiosity and was averaging about 1200 a day, me eating normally.

Pretty sure the lockdown weight is the few alcoholic drinks I was having a couple of times a week.

Might bump up my calorie intake a bit, I have been so hungry all week. Then try increase my exercise.

Also taken on board, scales in the morning Grin

Tbh if you spent the entire week starving then it sounds like a terrible diet and not sustainable in the long run. You need to calorie count and space those calories throughout the day so you dont feel starving.

DIshedUp · 29/03/2021 06:54

If you weigh yourself in the evening then it could be anything, water weight or your dinner or you need a big shit. Measure in the mornings before food with no clothes on every week. There will be fluctuations as your body varies its water retentiom

You cannot measure weightloss weekly, you need to track your weight over a period of weeks.

Although I'm not surprised you've been so hungry on 800 calories a day, you will be starving! You need to eat more, your weightloss will be slower but more sustainable.

DIshedUp · 29/03/2021 06:56

If you were having a couple of drinks at night, chocolate, biscuits with your cuppa then I highly doubt you were averaging 1200 a day

If so then you need to go to your doctor.

Pinkraven · 29/03/2021 07:11

When I lose weight I follow a two week pattern of no weight loss then a sudden whosh and overnight I’ll lose 4lbs and then I’ll get the same again - fat loss does not always show up
Immediately on the scales but you are not a scientific wonder - eat less calories than you burn and your body will be using your fat reserves - maybe temporarily replacing them with water but it will be working. Find a diet that you find easy to stick to - and it will work.

Beautiful3 · 29/03/2021 07:27

It takes a couple of weeks to show a loss. It does work.

Morgan12 · 29/03/2021 07:30

Try and get 10,000 steps a day. Eat 1600 cals. Don't starve yourself.

fluffythedragonslayer · 29/03/2021 07:48

Losing weight is HARD. Stick with it and see the results over a few weeks. I started healthy eating after Christmas and the first week I gained 2lb! I was so upset 😂 but I stuck with it and I've lost nearly a stone now - not that much for 3 months "on plan" but at least it's in the right direction. I follow slimming world and 16:8 with a few cheat days in between. Your plan needs to be sustainable for ever which 800 cal a day doesn't sound like it is. I'm rarely hungry on my healthy eating plan.

Oblomov21 · 29/03/2021 07:52

I know how you feel. Even when I try really hard I've lost nothing. So fed up.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 29/03/2021 08:01

@Imfromhere - what are your height and weight?

800 calories is what Fast 800/Blood sugar diet recommend the overweight or obese eat to kick start weight loss. Yes it's low, but not ridiculously so and it's not designed to be sustainable.

Runnerduck34 · 29/03/2021 09:05

Do you actually need to lose weight?
800 calories a day is too low for anything other than intermittent fasting once or twice a week.
Your usual intake of 1200 is too low as well imo.
You need more than that just for your body and organs just to function.
I suspect you dont actually need to lose weight , what is your BMI? If its in the healthy range please stop now, I say this as a mum to an anorexic DD please tread carefully 800 calories every day is far too low unless you are hugely obese and on a medically controlled diet, which I strongly suspect you arent.

JMAngel1 · 29/03/2021 09:38

Don't weigh yourself at night!!!!
Always first thing before drank/eaten anything, after a wee with no clothes on Grin

Arbadacarba · 29/03/2021 10:06

I've got just over a stone of lockdown weight to loose.

Where does this put your BMI? If your BMI is still within the healthy range for your height - particularly if it's well within that range - your body may be telling you that your current weight is healthy.

The less you have to lose, the slower the loss. I would be concerned that 800 calories a day is far too low for someone who, from what you say, is at most a stone overweight.

Imfromhere · 30/03/2021 19:07

Hi. I've upped what I'm eating so I'm no longer hungry.

BMI is just into the overweight band so I do have a stone to go to get into the middle of the normal range.

Until I had DC I was always under weight. Just naturally skinny. I hated it, seen Dr many time to see what I could do to get weight on but they said it was just genetics. I put on weight after the DC and was happy but it's gone the other way now. Hence all this diet stuff is all new to me. I've read up on some stuff and I've got myself all confused.

I'm feeling a bit better now that I'm eating properly and will weigh in next weekend (in the morning Smile). If I still havent lost anything I'm giving up and just buying new clothes in a bigger size Grin

SatsumaFan · 01/04/2021 19:03

Glad you're feeling better Smile not sure weighing in on Easter weekend will be a good idea? (or is it just me looking forward to chocolate and hot cross buns?!).

I'm in the overweight category but trying to lose a stone to get back to middle-ish of healthy range too. My BMI is 28 and none of my clothes fit Sad No way I could last on 500 kcals a day. I try to do 1500 + 10-15k steps a day but struggle some days.

Good luck Smile

SunshineCake · 01/04/2021 19:06

800 calories a day for a week ? No wonder you haven't lost anything. Sad.
