Help! How to unwedge stuck drinking glasses!

Wigeon · 27/03/2021 20:13

So these two glasses are totally wedged together. We’ve tried:

Pulling them really hard

Tapping them on the counter to see if that dislodges them

Putting washing up liquid in the gap

Putting them in boiling water

Putting them in cold water

Nope, still stuck fast. Any other genius ideas?!

Grease? Could you smear butter or something on the bit where they are stuck together?

IsolaPribby · 27/03/2021 20:14

You need to run warm water on the outside of the outer glass.

Try rolling them like a rolling pin on a flat hard surface.

NannyR · 27/03/2021 20:16

You could try cold water and ice in the inside one and then stand them in hot water - the cold should make the inside one contract and the heat makes the outside one expand.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/03/2021 20:16

Hot water on the outside of the outer glass, as @IsolaPribby suggests.

StealthPolarBear · 27/03/2021 20:17

Drizzle oil in the gap?

mineofuselessinformation · 27/03/2021 20:18

Turn them upside down and try jiggling the one that is now on the top.

Spottysausagedogs · 27/03/2021 20:20

Agree with @NannyR, ice in the top one, stand the bottom in hot water but not too hot as might shatter. Along with vaseline in the join line. Let us know if it works or not!

Spottysausagedogs · 27/03/2021 20:21

But if that doesn't work try vice versa as well, hot in top but stand bottom in ice, but I would guess the other way round would work better?

Wigeon · 27/03/2021 20:24

Rolling pin motion - nada.

Cold in the top one and stand the bottom one in hot water. I think it's that way round?

Wigeon · 27/03/2021 20:26

Ice plus hot water experiment underway!

Just lay them on their sides on the counter & leave them to relax, catch them
Unaware later on!

Thebookswereherfriends · 27/03/2021 20:27

We have the same glasses and recently got them wedged. Like pp say put water and ice cubes in the top glass and then leave the bottom glass in pretty warm water for a few minutes. That worked for us.

Wigeon · 27/03/2021 20:28

Tried just running hot water over the bottom one - still stuck fast. The bloody things only cost something like 10p from IKEA (ok, maybe they were £1), but I like them! And don’t want to go to IKEA! (Is it even open?)

Do you have a fish slice?

Bargebill19 · 27/03/2021 20:28

Talk loudly about throwing them in the bin.
Usually does the trick with anything showing reluctance to work in our household!

Wigeon · 27/03/2021 20:29

Oooo, @Thebookswereherfriends, how many minutes? Like, 2, or 20?

OP posts:
Fullofthejoysofspring · 27/03/2021 20:29

Spray wd40 in the join

Thebookswereherfriends · 27/03/2021 20:30

I think we left it for at least 5 mins, then did some wiggling.

Jeezypeepers · 27/03/2021 20:31

Sex lube and a fish slice

Biscuitsdisappear · 27/03/2021 20:32

Ice cubes in the top one until it gets good and cold and contracts then place the bottom one in warm/hot water so that it expands

Jeezypeepers · 27/03/2021 20:32

@DateStamp got there first! Grin
