Need to change some of my terrible routines I stay up late watching tele with my OH. We usually put the kids to bed about 8:30 then catch up on tv and both usually fall asleep on the sofa wake up around 2 and go to bed.

The next morning I'm up for work and feel dreadful.

What time do you go to bed and when do you wake up? I really want to start to make some
Changes in my life.

I'm usually in bed by 11pm and read until I fall asleep, usually around. 11.45. If I'm awake much later than that I'm a mess the following day. I get up at 7am.

devildeepbluesea · 27/03/2021 14:28

I'm a lark, I go to bed early, sometimes as easily as 7.30 and then watch TV for a couple of hours. It's rare that I'm still up at 9.30 though. I get up between 5-6am usually.

Lastfreakinglegs · 27/03/2021 14:30

10.45 normally. I'm awake at 7. 30 on week days.

Superstardjs · 27/03/2021 14:30

Last night 8.45 because I was knackered, woke up at 8am. Usually aim for bed by 10, but when dd was little I used to stay up stupidly late just to feel like I had an evening (and then regret it in the morning. Rinse and repeat for too many years.)

carolinesbaby · 27/03/2021 14:35

Go to bed between 10 and 11, usually closer to 10, maybe a bit later on a weekend.
Rarely if ever up till midnight. I'm always up by 7.30.
Younger DC go to bed between 7.30 and 8. Older one usually awake later than me, but wants to sleep in til lunchtime. DH often up till 1am but again likes a lie in at weekends till 10 or 10.30.

Sosigsandwich · 27/03/2021 14:36

We head upstairs at 10 at the latest, get ready for bed, read, chat and asleep by 11.

needachange11 · 27/03/2021 14:36

Yeah I think that's our problem, I finish work at 6:30 then by time the kids are in bed 8:30 that's when our evening starts so I don't like to go to bed too early but it's making me feel sluggish.

On a work night I'm in bed between 9-10pm and wake up at 5-6am. I need 7 hours sleep. None work nights are more flexible.

LouNatics · 27/03/2021 16:10

I usually head up to bed between 12.15-12.30. Usually shower, read a a bit or listen to a podcast. Lights off at 1-1.30am. Usually takes me about half an hour to get to sleep.

I get up at 7am and leave the house by 8am weekdays. But I’m not sure how I could go to bed much earlier. After cooking dinner and tidying that away between about 7-8, doing dc bedtime between 8-8.40, then a couple of hours of work interspersed with trying to get teens to go to bed and making sure everything is washed ready for the morning and everyone’s done their homework. House doesn’t settle until 10.30pm at the earliest, and usually closer to 11pm. After everything is settled I have an hour or so to myself before heading to bed.

Last night I didn’t get one teen to go to bed until 2.30am so that was also my bedtime. I wouldn’t have enough hours in the day if I went to bed at 9pm

20viona · 27/03/2021 16:17

I get in bed about 8 and fall asleep about 9.30. Up at 6.20.

JustSleepAlready · 27/03/2021 16:44

‘Burning the candle at both ends’ in all it’s glory. Think most parents do that to some extent tbh.

FlyingBurrito · 27/03/2021 16:45

One of the benefits of being an adult and single parent is that I go to bed whenever I fancy Grin

3CCC · 27/03/2021 16:47

11ish during the week. Depends what's on tele and how wired i am. Get up at 7 during the week

Normally have 45 min nap at some people during the afternoon

Middnight at the weekend. Can be earlier or later dependent on how tired I am or if there's a good movie on or something

WhatAreWordsWorth · 27/03/2021 16:49

We go to bed between 10-10.30 when we need to be up for work. We get up anytime between 6.30-7.30.

Weekends, we stay up later but it’s rare that we stay up past midnight. Get up between 8.30-9.30, but we have no DC.

TheUnwindingCableCar · 27/03/2021 16:49

If my teenagers were refusing to go to sleep at a reasonable time I'd be switching the WiFi off Grin

ComDummings · 27/03/2021 16:49

Kids to bed by 8.30, we veg on the sofa and watch something, then between 10 and 11 go to bed. Weekend might go crazy and stay up til 12 Grin I need a good 6-8hr sleep to function!

Caspianberg · 27/03/2021 16:50

Pretty early. Ds is asleep 8-8.30pm. I either go straight to bed after if he’s been waking lots at night, otherwise I aim to be in bed by 9.30-10pm latest. Either sleep or read a little

Midlifelady · 27/03/2021 16:51

I head up about midnight, go to sleep about 1and wake up at 7.30.
Just get yourselves to bed without fljng asleep in the sofa. Put a tv in your room if that helps.

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 27/03/2021 16:55

Bed at around 10.20-10.40, lights out 11.10 (well the lights are out when I go to bed, but I read on my Kindle after some prayer and meditation).

Wake up time is whenever DD1 gets up, usually 6.20-6.30, later in winter.

Potpourriandpennysweets · 27/03/2021 17:00

About 10pm, used to be more like midnight. Get up at about 6am.

Flossie44 · 27/03/2021 17:02

So good to read this thread.

I was going to bed about 11;30, would read until I fell asleep, sometimes around 1am. Alarm was 6am.

I decided to try a week whereby we went to bed between 9-10. And I don’t read.

It’s given us such a kick. It’s great. We don’t wake feeling lethargic. We are up and energised. We are also continuing this routine at weekends. (We used to lie in til 11am and stay up late on weekends).

It’s tricky because it means being organised and getting dinner sorted early. So we are eating quicker meals. Haven’t changed the nutrition value of our meals, but I’m not making complex dinners.

Overall it’s been a fantastic change

marriednotdead · 27/03/2021 17:09

Aim to be in bed by 10 most nights. DP is an early bird and up and lively at 5am for work.
I have fibromyalgia and bouts of insomnia so I can spend 11+ hours in bed but be awake for an hour or more at random times. Always wake up tired regardless.

PilatesPeach · 27/03/2021 17:12

Bed between 9 - 10pm and up 5 - 6am I do this 7 days a week, a lie in is 6.30/6.45 - was always this way even as a student! Used to start my revision 6am be done by midday and then start 6am the next day (always felt relaxed doing exams)

MrsBerthaRochester · 27/03/2021 17:33

About 3 or 4am but I have serious mental health issues. Get up at 7.30 to get Kids to school then back to bed until 12.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 27/03/2021 17:50

Weekdays bed 10pm usually asleep by 10:30-11pm. Up at 6:15 am for work.

Weekends bed 10:30ish up at 8:30
