Cream of chicken soup

Other than just eat it, what can I do with it that isn't a pasta bake or a chicken pot pie filling (American recipes). I don't want to eat it as I don't like it and I want it gone from the cupboard. I hate waste but honestly thinking of just ditching so I don't have to look at it any more! Any ideas?

Use it instead of stock in a chicken curry.

billybagpuss · 25/03/2021 07:45

Food bank?

antidisestablishmentarianism · 25/03/2021 07:45

Put it in the food bank next time you are passing?

I thought food bank but turning up with one tin seems awful but I wonder if I could take it to the supermarket and put it in their collections instead?

Yes, just put it in a supermarket collection. I've done that before if I've bought a few tins of something and then decided I couldn't use it.

Rememberallball · 25/03/2021 08:14

Freeze it in ice cube tray and then drop a couple of cubes in when you’re making creamy sauces or mash potatoes for a slightly different flavour.

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 25/03/2021 08:17

Why would turning up with just one item be awful? One more than a lot of people donate.

PuddingRice · 25/03/2021 08:24

@IstandwithJackieWeaver I guess because I would normally donate a bag of items but I don't really have enough in my cupboards atm as I'm running things down. It's my own issue of worrying people think I'm stingey to only donate the one tin.

crystalcherry87 · 25/03/2021 09:26

Sorry but you need to get a life. It's a tin of bloody soup.

Whingey · 25/03/2021 09:42

I put mushrooms in. Cream of mushroom soup on toast 💟

PuddingRice · 25/03/2021 10:19

@crystalcherry87 🤣 aren't you charming

MarieDelaere · 25/03/2021 10:28

I've got three bloody tins of the stuff, a month past their BBE dates. Heinz as well.

SimplyMarvellousDarrrrrrling · 25/03/2021 10:55

@Whingey

I put mushrooms in. Cream of mushroom soup on toast 💟
Whaaaaat, actually on the toast? Or to accompany the toast? How does this wizardry work?
BashfulClam · 25/03/2021 11:07

Take it to the supermarket and put it in the collection. I do that with tins I don’t want as I’d rather not waste them.

BashfulClam · 25/03/2021 11:08

You can also use it to make pasta sauce, cook tagliatelle, add mushrooms and done extra chicken and add soup. Student cooking taught me that!

Billandben444 · 25/03/2021 11:08

I can't stand chicken soup either and I'm totally put off by anything that involves chicken and eggs on the same plate. Now, tinned mushroom soup was used in the 70s as vol-au-vent fillings - we knew how to party in those days Smile

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 25/03/2021 11:12

Food bank, as I am sure someone else will like it. Food should never go to waste.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 25/03/2021 11:18

Yep, either put it in the supermarket collection or use with pastry to make a chicken bake type thing.

You could also add some tomatoe puree and spices to change the taste a bit too, and put it with roast potatoes to make either patatas bravas type dish, or on chicken and mushroom on posh crusty toast.

Whingey · 25/03/2021 11:23

Chop up mushrooms and coat in enough soup to cover the toast. Then heat up

CurseMyTinyThumbs · 25/03/2021 11:28

Donate it, bin it or eat it as it is. Using it to make something else is just stretching the suffering further.

Amdone123 · 25/03/2021 11:30

Oohh I love these ideas. I don't have any chicken soup.....but am going to buy some.
Omg, mushroom vol-au-vents...I used to love them.

Youngatheart00 · 25/03/2021 11:32

Definitely supermarket food bank drop box

Someone will appreciate it and I agree it’s good not to waste stuff, but you shouldn’t have to eat something you really don’t like (why did you buy it? 🤔)

PuddingRice · 25/03/2021 11:42

@Youngatheart00 it has gone to the supermarket. I didn't buy it. It was offloaded to me.

re the mushroom vol au vents idea. ( I'm an old gimmer and was already adult in the 70s). The soup used was not Heinz as far too liquid. We used Campbells condensed soup and didn't dilute it. As you were.

folloyourarro · 25/03/2021 11:57

We just have it on top of rice mixed with peas and sweetcorn, one of my quick go to meals the kids like more than my more creative meals Hmm
