Any tips on dealing with antisocial kids?

Yes, I've rung 101 Grin just wondering if anyone has any bright ideas. It's pretty much daily, and around 3 times a day
I'm being tormented by the little brats to the point I can't open my blinds so I am a little.. riled tonight
They're opening the gate, coming in the garden and banging on the windows or throwing mud/sticks/stones at the window. Because of the layout I can't chain the gate (elderly neighbours can't cope with a padlock and need access)
Can't afford CCTV
If I open the blinds it makes it worse, and haven't been able to get a pic again due to the layout as they run off around a corner. Have a vague description
So far it's been months and they're still going Sad and I'm WFH. When you're washing up in front of a window with the blinds shut and then get someone pounding on the window it's a little frightening at 9pm!
So far I've ignored but tonight I've screamed after them some choice words

I know you say you can't afford CCTV, but could you manage something like a Ring doorbell? The picture quality is amazing, Ring footage has been used in lots of prosecution's recently.

Failing that; big nasty dog, call 101 each and every time it happens, call the antisocial behaviour team at the council and ask them for help. Are your elderly neighbours being harassed as well?

QueenPaw · 23/03/2021 19:05

No to the dog (I have a cat!)
Ring possibly but because of where it is, it would capture movement all day
It's at the back of my home (complex layout) not the front where it's happening
No, they're set further back off the road so no issues at all

funnylittlefloozie · 23/03/2021 20:05

Does it matter if the Ring captures movement all day? I don't know much about Rings, tbh. Definitely keep on at the police and council though.

They've just been back, shouted some abuse at me and then shone a laser pen in my eyes when I came to the window
Excellent. Rang the police but not much they can do

You can adjust what you view with the ring doorbell.

WheeshtTheNoo · 23/03/2021 21:07

This sounds awful, I know you say you can't afford cctv but I think even just a cheap camera might help. Is there any local fb groups? Could you post to see if anyone else is having bother.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 23/03/2021 21:12

Any idea why they are picking on you?

IHateCoronavirus · 23/03/2021 21:15

Any idea on their school?

RevolvingPivot · 23/03/2021 21:18

I know you shouldn't have to put up with it but they love that they're bothering you. It's a game. They would have stopped once they got bored.

I can't imagine how you feel though.

QueenPaw · 23/03/2021 21:38

@RevolvingPivot doesn't matter if I ignore them. I've been ignoring them for months and it makes no difference. I didn't react, they couldn't even see I was home because everything was shut and all lights out Sad
I snapped tonight because it's been going on so long but I've never once reacted before

@JayAlfredPrufrock
2 years ago I had a lit firework put through my window for no reason, they're (and I don't use this term lightly) feral and don't care. It's not just me, it's just that I'm closest to the road. They've annoyed a security guard tonight and they also race up and down on mopeds a lot causing chaos, that's been at least 2 years and not resolved yet

@IHateCoronavirus no - there's a primary school almost next door but these are secondary age so could be one of a few, they're not in uniform sadly

OP posts:
QueenPaw · 23/03/2021 21:45

Had to crop but this is the main window they're targeting as the gate is just out of shot
They then run off to the left of the pic which unless you actually hang out the window, you can't see so not sure if a ring would work?
As I could film them walking past from the right of the pic but until they've actually come in the garden.. it's that bit I need to get

Have you got a local FB page? We've got a village one, and it proved very useful when a gang of bored kids started causing issues. It was cherry knocking and stuff to start, but then progressed to smashing flower pots/smashing hanging baskets and then went to damaging cars by pulling number plates off and wing mirrors.

A few photographs taken through windows of kids in action did the trick...............

QueenPaw · 23/03/2021 22:03

I have but I'm wary in case they see it if that makes sense? The parents aren't bothered so I can't go that route hence it needs to be police
(Lived here 14 years and seen this before when I first moved here)
We did have a thing once.. dispersal order? That worked well, they couldn't be in a group of more than 2 and there was a curfew and the police were really hot on it
Saying that, it's happening all day long and sometimes just 2 of them 🤷🏽‍♀️

OP posts:
funnylittlefloozie · 23/03/2021 22:10

The parents aren't bothered - so if you know who the parents are, you can tell the police and the council. Honestly, you just have to make a nuisance of yourself with the police, and ring every single time. Also, get onto your local councillor, explain the problem and ask them to help you get the police to take it seriously.

Also go out for a walk one night and stick nails into the tyres of their crappy little mopeds and motorbikes.

funnylittlefloozie · 23/03/2021 22:12

Oh, and chavvy kids don't go on Facebook so who cares if they see it?

Tempusfudgeit · 23/03/2021 22:12

Hide in a bush with a fully loaded supersoaker. Little bastards.

QueenPaw · 23/03/2021 22:16

@funnylittlefloozie they said they're hoping to get me a police visit tomorrow and I've emailed the local neighbourhood police again

The mopeds is another story, the police have set up a special operation/email/phone number where people can send pics and videos because there's so much of it. Think they've seized about 10 bikes/quads/scramblers so far

OP posts:
QueenPaw · 23/03/2021 22:18

@Tempusfudgeit if my neighbours didn't need to access that gate I would have coated it in something that would get stuck to them by now. Although they can climb over the fence, it's more effort my dad suggested wiring electric fencing from the stables up to the mains

Can you get one of those high frequency things that only children/young people can hear?

cryh · 24/03/2021 08:29

They would have stopped once they got bored this is a victim-blaming myth

OP - you need a lock on that gate. You can ring 999 when they enter your property as they are threatening you. You need to speak to the community officer tomorrow, get a ring doorbell and ask your councillor for help.

RevolvingPivot · 24/03/2021 08:32

@cryh sorry I honestly didn't mean it that way. Some teens are little shits and would enjoy the confrontation and find it funny.

KitBumbleB · 24/03/2021 08:43

This is why misogyny needs to be a hate crime they wouldn't do this to a big man.
I completely understand what you mean by they don't care, when you have nothing to live for you have nothing to lose.

Keep calling the police, keep reporting it its no way to have to live

QueenPaw · 24/03/2021 10:45

@cryh I can't lock it, it's not just me who needs access and the others that use it can't cope with a lock as too elderly. They can just step over the fence otherwise anyway (it's sort of crotch height on me and I'm 5ft 10!)

Waiting to hear from the police today so will see what happens then. They've basically said (before last night) keep writing down every time it happens, times and dates and any descriptions and try to get photos or videos

There will be a big, scary, tattooed gentle giant in my house tomorrow night who looks fucking terrifying so I may have the blinds open while he loiters about

UseYourIllusion · 24/03/2021 10:52

Can you open an upstairs window and play something offensive to teen ears? Bit of Opera or something.
