Tell me about your perfect BBQ menu

If we are allowed to socialise in gardens soon, I foresee a fair few small-scale BBQs over the coming weeks (possibly wet and chilly ones!).
Inspire me - What would you serve (or want to be served) at a small, rule-of-6-compliant BBQ?
In the olden days we didn’t have BBQs very often so tended to go with the basic sausages and burgers, but now probably want more variety - and something a bit more special.

Great thread. I’m having a few friends over to sit in my garden for my birthday next week (under a gazebo and with the patio heater on Grin) and I was wondering if it’s too early to crack out the BBQ.

Personally I’d be happy with a big plate of halloumi

KingdomScrolls · 23/03/2021 17:14

Salmon with teriyaki g, prawns on skewers, chicken livers with peri peri spices, home made koftes, BBQ flatbreads, corn on the cob, rice or cous cous filled with veg, herbs, garlic, chilli etc

Definitely not too early - our first bbq of the year was on New Years Day, lol. And we bbq most Sundays. . .
LadyMonicaBaddingham · 23/03/2021 17:19

Starting at about 4pm with Sangria, then...
Spatchcocked chicken
Bacon-wrapped prawn skewers
Garlic mushrooms
Halloumi-stuffed flatbreads
Brown Rice Salad
Green Goddess Salad

Lots of drinks and then, as it cools, chuck some chipolatas on the barbecue to eat late at night under the stars.

I can dream!

littlewhitestar · 23/03/2021 17:24

We had a few "dinner party" type BBQs last summer with a single starter, main and pudding.

Starters
Fig and halloumi skewers drizzled with honey after grilling
Pancetta and scallop skewers
Garlic and chilli prawns

Mains
Steak with barbecued new potatoes, mushrooms, corn on the cob and red peppers
Sea Bream with a warm bacon and potato salad and BBQ asparagus
Lamb souvlaki with homemade flatbreads, pomegranate and parsley salad, tzatziki, BBQ padron peppers and honey roast chilli tomatoes
Salmon with potato salad and lentil salad

Desserts
Usually something premade like Eton mess but things we make on the BBQ:
Roast pineapple or bananas
Melted chocolate and marshmallows S'mores dip (although you would need individual dips) or just toasted marshmallows

reprehensibleme · 23/03/2021 17:25

Teriyaki and satay chicken.
Corn on the cob (we microwave the cobs for about 6 mins then finish on the BBQ).

Spicy potato wedges - cut potatoes into wedges, parboil for 5-6 minutes. Drain, toss in olive oil, hot paprika and thyme and finish on the barbecue.

HM burgers in brioche buns with crispy onions, relish and cheese.
Rice salad
Green salad

Wow!! Can I sneak in?! Sounds amazing
Confusedandshaken · 23/03/2021 17:52

Marinated steaks cooked rare and cut across the grain. Served on rocket with mustard/garlic/olive oil dressing. halloumi served in a similar fashion. Side dishes Mac &Cheese, pot salad, sourdough bread, grilled vine tomatoes, maybe a ratatouille. This is my Easter Sunday menu for DH and me and 4 much missed relations to eat outside. I cannot wait.

Dessert - tarte tatin. I bought a Le Creuset tatin dish months ago and although it's come in handy for other things it will be the first time I have had a chance to make a dessert for ages (DH doesn't eat them).

Popcornbetty · 23/03/2021 17:59
