If your passport needs renewing soon, now is a great time! 3 working days from starting application to it being posted to me!

Mine wasn't that quick, but not far off.

I also reported a blocked drain to Anglian Water and was told they'd respond within 24hrs. 10 minutes later problem solved.

Luck of the draw methinks.

idontlikealdi · 23/03/2021 12:53

I can't imagine there's a mad rush on passport applications at the minute

lurker101 · 23/03/2021 12:55

Perfect time for a renewal when you can’t travel anyway! We renewed a passport recently similar timeframe.

Luckystar1 · 23/03/2021 12:56

Waah, I’ve made a first passport app for my youngest... it’s been a week. Tardy Grin

UCOinaUCG · 23/03/2021 12:57

I need to get mine done but I am waiting until I have had my hair cut!

MazekeenSmith · 23/03/2021 12:59

Unless you need it for ID best not to bother yet as you'll have wasted time on it..I renewed mine in January 2020 and annoyed that I'll have lost at least a year and a half if not two!!

fizbosshoes · 23/03/2021 13:04

@MazekeenSmith
Agree
I wouldnt get a passport until I was sure travel was allowed and I was actually going to go abroad. I'm annoyed I renewed DS last year for a holiday that was cancelled and I'll probably waste 2.5 years of a 5 year passport!

dotdashdashdash · 23/03/2021 13:17

I did mine as I need it for a mortgage application we're doing. It expired 18 months ago!

It's useful for ID as well :)

I feel fortunate to have an active one. I don't want to go anywhere. Actually active, that makes it sound like it's slivering around. It's behaving itself in my handbag I think.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 23/03/2021 14:42

DDs expired over a year ago. We are waiting until she needs one... Actually both DDs, as the other expires in September.

Seems weird them not having one...

activitythree · 23/03/2021 14:44

I have just sent DDs off with a name change so hopefully it comes back quickly. She needs it for ID!

BarbaraofSeville · 23/03/2021 15:00

It's always quick at this time of year, but probably even more so this year if people aren't renewing.

After all, if you're not expecting to use it this year, you wouldn't rush to renew it and have it sitting there wasting away, especially DC when they only last five years.

PattyPan · 23/03/2021 15:00

Mine expires in 2 months but I wasn’t going to bother for a while, it’s not like we’ll be going abroad this year!

Itsalonghaul · 23/03/2021 15:17

Is this is a joke?

Of course the passport office is like a morgue because no one is going anywhere for the foreseeable.

BarbaraofSeville · 23/03/2021 15:19

Maybe the OP works at the Passport Office and is bored and looking for something to do, or is worried about being made redundant due to lack of demand.

I'm a Dr.

I was just highlighting that if you need a passport (as I do) then now is a good time to get one done.

What is wrong with mumsnet at the moment!

MaddieElla · 23/03/2021 15:22

Agreed. Had to update DDs for student finance as it just expired and it was posted within 2 days!

Interesting, appointments for passport renewals ran out (availability til May) in less than 24hrs when we booked a renewal appointment last month (not British passport), so there is definitely more demand than supply for some passport renewals!
lljkk · 23/03/2021 16:06

Can't get US passports renewed for the kids. Would love to, but they are only helping people who need emergency travel. The backlog to get the kids' passports is going to be terrible when the Embassy reopens to ordinary business. Yet another reason the kids may not see grandies for a long time to come...

Xenia · 23/03/2021 16:11

I got one lat September - fastest in my whole life - took about 4 days - amazing service from the passport office. Mind you if I am not by law allowed to use it for 10 years I will be wanting my money back! last summer's holiday was cancelled and this year in the balance. Last went abroad summer 2019.

Anticyclone · 23/03/2021 16:25

Passport ran out early 2020, not going to renew until we are actually planning to go abroad, I reckon I can live another year being passport free! Driving licence is good enough ID for me.

TheChosenTwo · 23/03/2021 20:00

I haven’t even looked at our passports in over a year! No idea if they’re still in date but I guess that they are... I’m curious now, going to check.
Although if any of them are, I’ll wait a while before renewing, it’s totally wasted time in my eyes, we have decided we aren’t going abroad this year regardless of rules and guidance (small sob).

AnaofBroceliande · 23/03/2021 20:04

I had a helluva time renewing my DD's last year in April. The photos kept getting rejected. Had to get MP involved. By contrast, my son applied for his renewal from abroad and got it back with no bother.

Hire some estate agents to scope out buying a home abroad, then you can go, Xenia. Go for it Smile.

I would be anxious at thought I couldn't exit the country when I wanted even if right now I can't anyway!!
