Daftest thing you've missed in lockdown?

I was reading DD2 a bedtime story last night when out of nowhere I had this Proustian moment of absolute longing for a baked potato out of the food hall in the St Enoch's shopping centre in Glasgow. I don't even know if you can get a baked potato in the St Enoch's centre these days, as it's about 25 years since I last had my dinner there. It's never been high up my priority list when I go back to visit. But suddenly all my feelings of homesickness and utter scunneredness with lockdown just boiled down to this baked tattie. Anyone else craving stuff they didn't even know they missed?

I think I remember jacket potatoes in st enochs shopping centre. It seemed posh to me.

I was at the allotment today, gorgeous day, had a chat with other people, sowed some beans....

Wasn’t till I was driving home and saw someone in a mask that I remembered, damn, global pandemic. I’d had a lovely couple of hours of forgetting....

AiryFairy1 · 22/03/2021 06:13

A good old rummage in tk maxx!

Fivemoreminutes1 · 22/03/2021 06:25

Going to watch my DC’s class assemblies, and trying on testers of perfume and makeup before I buy them!

Spudlet · 22/03/2021 06:37

Drinking coffee that I haven’t made myself. God, I’m longing to go for a walk and then a coffee shop. Even the one in the woods where the coffee isn’t that great.

WantChewbaccaForGood · 22/03/2021 07:17

I've missed going down the slides at the swimming pool Confused

EssentialHummus · 22/03/2021 07:20

Being able to use Apple Pay with face ID.

Amdone123 · 22/03/2021 07:21

I really miss meeting my husband after work for a glass of wine and pub tea. We would both finish at 5pm ish and meet up for a chat, etc. Only ever for a couple of hours but was so lovely. Plus, I didn't have to think about cooking.

BikeRunSki · 22/03/2021 07:23

Bowling
We didn’t even go that often, maybe times a year, but it would have been great on some of these cold, wet weekends we’ve had this winter.

Kids activities

Good I havn’t had to plan/buy/cook

AnExcellentWalker · 22/03/2021 07:24

TK Maxx, and chatting with the parents of DD's friends in the playground.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 22/03/2021 07:25

@EssentialHummus

Being able to use Apple Pay with face ID.
Yes!! Grin

Damn you mask....! Grin

I miss activities. So, “oh shall we pop off to the golf range?” Or “kids, want to do an escape room with dad and me?”

bearlyactive · 22/03/2021 07:27

Knowing that someone is smiling at me if they make eye contact, rather than having to guess if they're smiling or if they're blinking at me in Morse Code.

AgentCooper · 22/03/2021 07:29

@Anycrispsleft oh that hit me in the heart! I haven’t been in the food court at St Enoch in years but the idea of having a baked potato there just sounds like being wee and carefree.

Like others, I miss TK Maxx. I miss wandering around Silverburn too and taking DS into the Works to choose some of those 3 for £5 books. I miss charity shops. Morrison’s cafe.

Mummywantsaweewee · 22/03/2021 07:40

I miss swimming pools, seeing people’s faces, being able to go for a spur of the moment coffee, and giving friends a cuddle! And yes to a mooch round TKMaxx!

Etherealhedgehog · 22/03/2021 07:40

Hanging out with friends in their/our living rooms. Just that. I'd give up all the shopping experiences, restaurants, coffees, fun activities etc in a heartbeat just to be able to spend time with my friends (and family) that wasn't on a bloody walk.

ssd · 22/03/2021 07:43

I used to love a jacket potato in braehead. Are those jacket places shut now?

Northernsoullover · 22/03/2021 07:45

I miss loads of things but one thing I'm really hankering after is a fried breakfast. I know I could do it myself but its a bloody palaver with all the grilling, frying and timing. Not to mention the excess food as its not something I eat very often.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/03/2021 07:45

Wasn't it called Spud U Like.

Bloody loved that place - all the butter...

AgentCooper · 22/03/2021 07:45

You know, one thing that makes me feel sad - I used to love meeting my mum for a cup of tea and cake in Debenhams cafe on Argyle St after work. Which I don’t think I’ve done since I had DS (who is now 3). She always had points on her card or an offer so she got it for buttons. No more Debenhams now Sad

CigarsofthePharoahs · 22/03/2021 07:47

Taking ds1 ice skating. He'd go round and round while I'd sit in the cafe drinking coffee, eating chips and reading my kindle. It was bliss.
Now the sodding John Nike centre is never opening again. I miss those chips, they were really good!

AllTheCakes · 22/03/2021 07:50

I actually miss lunch breaks at work. I used to commute to work in London so lots of lovely shops to browse in, then so much choice of what to eat for lunch. Now I have to think about what to have for lunch, buy it, prepare it and tidy up after eating it.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/03/2021 07:50

Watching swimming lessons. I hate it. But I miss it!
My DM told me recently how she missed sitting in a cafe with coffee and cake watching people

ssd · 22/03/2021 07:51

Yes, spud-u-like

I know, Debenhams going is a massive hole in Glasgow. As well as ek and silver burn.

OutsideTheWhiteHouse · 22/03/2021 07:53

I’ve been craving an overpriced coffee in my extremely lack lustre local cafe - on my own, with a newspaper or book, watching the world go by out the window. It seems like some sort of unimaginable bliss.

Contactlesslenses · 22/03/2021 07:53

Reading books. I would get through a book a week on my train commute. I don’t know why but I just can’t get in to reading at home. For me it’s a train journey thing.

And Pret’s salads and baguettes..even if I use the same ingredients I can’t get close to replicating them!

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 22/03/2021 07:55

I miss the library, sticking DD in the children’s’ section with DH and just going for a quiet rummage round the books.

And going for a walk around town on my lunch break, spending too much in Boots and getting a Marks and Spencer’s sandwich because I couldn’t be bothered to bring my packed lunch.

Walking to work in my trainers and putting my proper shoes on when I get to the office.

Packing my handbag on a Sunday with the things I need for the following week going to work. I miss bags.
