It's my brother's birthday this weekend and I want to drop him round a cake in lieu of other proper celebrations (his second full-lockdown birthday!Sad). I would like some of your most tasty birthday cake recipes please! I've been Googling loads but for some reason I'm feeling a bit uninspired...

Criteria:

  • Proper cake, not cheesecake, brownies etc
  • Something a bit different/interesting and really delicious I.e. not just standard chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream
  • Something that will survive a little bit of travel
  • Ideally (but least importantly) something a bit pretty and special looking

Thanks a lot for your ideas!

This is pretty and adaptable (can use different toppings to jazz it up such as grated chocolate, though fudge pieces are good!)

Not good at clicky links but this is my go-to cake for birthdays, it does travel ok as long as it's chilled when you set off so the cream doesn't all melt. Just thinking about it makes me want to bake one!

I've made this [[https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/cookies-cream-party-cake cookies and cream]] cake for a few birthdays and it's a smash hit. I tend to make 2 layers though rather than 4 Grin

well done me on making a nice small link!

I've made a few recipes from this site & they have always turned out well

@MrsCaptainJakeBallard - those cakes Shock. They look amazing. But you’d need a household of at least a dozen people to eat one of them! Grin

@MrsCaptainJakeBallard that website has some amazing ideas! Definitely going to have a browse there, thanks Grin

How about a Beetroot and Guinness cake ? It doesn't taste of beetroot and is really moist and yummy. Google the recipe , it's worth making.

Any one we've tried has been delicious. The salted caramel one is my favourite. I don't have a household of a dozen people though so always end up eating far too much Grin

Anyone making any of them and need someone to help them eat it - I’m usually free! Grin

I'm thinking I'm going to go for the lemon and elderflower from Captain's website (maybe 2/3 of the size...)
