Tell me the name you love but can't use

After a conversation with friends we all have a name that we love but can't use for various reasons

Our examples are:

Jame- because an ex bil was called that and its weird to have a nephew with the same name as your ex husband

Lyra - friends parents ended up adopting a dog with that name

Iris- goes absolutely horribly with my surname

So tell me your names that you cant justifiably choose! Are you someone that loved the name myra but have a horrid aunt called it? Or have an impossible surname that combines awkwardly with a beautiful name?

Loving all these, and the whole variety of reasons you cant have them

Surname Clark, so can't use Mark. Or Clark, come to think of it.

Dorothea. DM's name, & would have loved to use it as a middle name, but mum has always disliked her name so that was that yeeted...

Clio. Muse of history, lovely name, but also a car.

Alice. Friend got there ahead of me. Her 20 something dd now lives on a completely different continent & says she'd have rather liked a teenage namesake, so, bugger. Dd is Alicia which I do love, but slightly wish I'd stuck to my guns.

Surname beginning with A , so couldn't have Alex or Alexandra which I liked. Also like Georgia for a girl but DH vetoed it.
Wanted Lorcan or Tiernan for a boy , no one liked it. Liked James but BIL said it aloud first. Ironically they had two girls . Rebecca , Rachel exes of DH.

Alice, DH couldn’t get over ‘who the fuck is Alice’

Because of surnames we had to avoid first names beginning with S or Z, or ending with S. I really liked Simon, Angus, Zoë but couldn't use them. Also Alex because of the X followed by an S surname it would sound like Alec. So we scrapped that idea too.

Summer, it’s a disaster with my surname (think Grease).

Zachary, it's my nephew's name. Lovely DSIL actually said she didn't mind but I felt it would be too weird for DMIL to have two grandsons with the same name. Plus they would have become Big Zac and Little Zac...

That happened in my Dads family, was years before I eventually met Big Zac, who was about 5ft 5, I'd always assumed Big Zac was much taller than Zac. Never occurred to me it was a childhood age thing.

I couldn’t use Thomas because it’s part of my surname.
I loved Letitia for a girl but it reminded my husband of Letitia Dean.
My husband liked Cressida but with his surname it sounded like a cartoon witch.
My husband also wanted Norah after his granny, but Norah was also the name of a really heinous relative of mine that did some really shitty things!
In the event we had boys, which was probably just as well.

I love Willow, Autumn and Aurora. All of those would be utterly ridiculous with our surname (Winter).

Elsa. I think it's lovely and there's also a family connection.

However, thought it might lead to a lot of being asked to build a snowman, or to let it go!

My DH has a wide circle of acquaintances with beautiful names he’s vetoed for DC3 including Hester, Petra, Iona and Cordelia.

He also declined Barney (dinosaur), Casper (friendly ghost), Jethro (Tull) and Jago (made up).

He’s now refusing to engage in any baby name conversations until at least our 20 weeks scan (currently 11 weeks)...
