Most young people/teenagers seem to take off their shoes without untying the bow. Do you see that as well and why do they do that?

Perhaps they haven't been taught how to tie them?

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 14/03/2021 01:45

I'm nearly 50 and don't untie my laces. Although they aren't done up tight. I also know how to tie them.
I'm a teenager at heart yay! Grin
Otherwise it could be fashion, cant be arsed or just because.

TheBlackTower · 14/03/2021 01:47

Sheer convenience - it's easier to slip your trainers on and off (and most don't even have a 'bow' anymore. You tuck the loose ends of the laces into the toe of the shoe so it looks neater).

BertieBotts · 14/03/2021 01:49

Because it's 30 seconds faster! I don't understand why this is such a mystery.

Why do they throw their socks on the floor instead of in the laundry basket? Same.

cerseii · 14/03/2021 01:52

Cause it’s easier?

fallfallfall · 14/03/2021 01:54

I’m 63. It’s easier. They are perfect and don’t want to ruin the fit.

GameofPhones · 14/03/2021 01:56

Elastic shoelaces. You can buy them - they're great.

Maria53 · 14/03/2021 01:57

Oh god, I do this! My parents used to tell me off. I'm now late 20s and still do it. No doubt it is a convenience/laziness!

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 14/03/2021 02:00

Im 36 and have done this since I was a teen. The laces are tied loosely behind the tongue. So much quicker and easier!

LemonSwan · 14/03/2021 02:13

I am not a teen but I do this. Why would you want to tie and untie grubby and/or wet laces. The thought horrifies me.

I get why other people might need to tie trainers if they have heel slip issues. But the one that gets me the most is walking boots. There is absolutely no reason to ever retie a walking boot. Just slip the lace out of the hooks, untwist and voila. Put them back on, twist and rehook.

I'm in my 60's and I do that - always have done. I untie them when I put them on the next time.

RatsolutelyFabulous · 14/03/2021 02:24

I’m 25 and don’t even tie my laces, I shove the laces Inside my shoe and just pull them off.

Don’t tie my laces unless I’m wearing my docs. Haven’t tied my laces since I was about 5, it’s just convenience.

I’m more than capable of tying my shoe lace just can’t be arsed and it doesn’t look right too me to have a bow on my shoes.

vodkaredbullgirl · 14/03/2021 02:33

I don't untie mine either and I'm 51 lol

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 14/03/2021 02:57

Im 34 and do this. Its easier....

I don't even tie mine up in the first place.
dudsville · 14/03/2021 05:50

It is a great mystery, a real chin scratcher!

Ifailed · 14/03/2021 05:57

I'm in the opposite camp to many PPs, I tie my laces up tight enough so my shoes/boots/trainers don't slip when I'm walking/hiking/running, and the only way to get them off is to untie them.

en0la · 14/03/2021 06:00

I don't untie them either, all of my shoes are ones I can slip on and off even with laces or buckles.

ExponentiallyDepleted · 14/03/2021 06:01

I (50s) kick mine off without untying them, but undo and tie them again when I put them back on. I never did do that thing of tucking them in so there's no bow, which I notice a lot of people my age still do, but younger people seem to have mainly gone back to bows again now.

HoppingPavlova · 14/03/2021 06:07

Another one confused as to why you are perplexed and also that you seem to think this is limited to teens.

I’m the far side of middle age and don’t tie or untie laces, just slip them on and off. Also I don’t undo/do up buckles, again, just slip on and off with them done up. When shoes are new it’s a bit tricky as you need to really wriggle out and in but the give fairly quickly if worn often. Who wants to spend life fiddle faddling around with shoe closures!

Bmidreams · 14/03/2021 06:20

Pure laziness!

Same here.
sashh · 14/03/2021 06:48

I did this as a teen, I think it's just something you do as a teen, and some people continue to do it.
