The Duchess of Cambridge attends the Sarah Everard vigil

My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

Well, that would be a way to make anyone stand out more

Why? I can't link it but look at the footage. There are two women with exactly that on. Ordinary people. Mask and baseball cap

Krispyk · 14/03/2021 09:09

@Roussette

Has anyone actually seen the online news today? It is about the police reaction. If that is not on printed media it is because first editions would have gone already

All the printed newspaper are Kate.

What I said above... it could've been about the Met Police refusing to talk to RTS who had a safely organised Vigil planned. And which the High Court said could go ahead.

But no, it's just pics of Kate

Yes, let's see what Andrew Marr says.

Sorry to have to point out your inconsistencies again but you don't help yourself do you?

Please do explain how the 'printed newspapers' have published this, the day she visited. I am not sure if you understand how it works but that would be impossible

Blessex · 14/03/2021 09:09

@Roussette who the hell wears a baseball cap unless trying to hide who they are. That is one way to draw direct attention to yourself.

Well done Kate. She clearly felt she needed to do this.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 09:10

You cannot seriously start a thread about KM which has now more than 800 posts and then being an hypocrite about the attention being thrown on KM.

I'm not complaining that the attention is on KM - I did start the thread afterall -I'm complaining that people are using it as an opportunity to demonise KM. The irony is, they're moaning about it being "all about Kate" and demonising others for not making it about Sarah.

There you go, an ACTUAL example of irony. You're welcome.

@Blessex perhaps that needs to be told to the two ordinary bystanders dressed like that then...

beyondtheshoe · 14/03/2021 09:10

@BelleSausage

The cynical people calling this a PR stunt are just as bad as the Meghan haters.

This looked like a deeply personal visit. She didn’t tip anyone off she’d be there and there weren’t any paps at the time because the vigil hadn’t started yet.

The man who took the video (entirely secretly) was an off duty news editor who filmed it on his phone.

when you know the agreements between the palace and the press, you can't make it even more obvious.

Of course it's a PR stunt.

It wouldn't be so distasteful if the royal family hasn't hidden away for months during a national crisis (worldwide even) instead of stepping up when they were needed.

A bit of respect wouldn't have gone amiss this weekend. It's very poor taste.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 09:11

@OneFamilyToRuleUsAll

Erm, OP, how are there 2 JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows on here. I thought my eyes were deceiving me earlier. You're not sockpuppeting on this thread, are you? Is there a good answer to this?
Is there?! How? Where?

Sparklingbrook · 14/03/2021 09:11

I would imagine that the press follow KM's every move. There were shots of her driving her car through London the day after the H&M interview. Nothing but driving and the papers made out she looked angry/unhappy or something.Hmm
The press that hang about where she lives just need to alert any off duty news people and they know where she's heading. They were probably hanging around wondering if she would go yesterday.

goodbyestranger · 14/03/2021 09:12

The police violence may have superseded Kate's attempt to grab the headlines, but that wasn't foreseeable by her PR team. We're talking about the intention rather than the outcome.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 14/03/2021 09:12

If james is using a very similar name for sockpuppeting, it kind of defeats the object I think... everyone will still think it is james 🤷‍♀️

For all we know someone else fancied the name.

I know other posters have had similar and the new posters changed the name only very slightly. But everyone thought it was the original as it were.

Annoying but it happens.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 09:12

Sock puppeting means having 2 DIFFERENT usernames - and no matter what my username was, all my posts would be highlighted as the OP posts (I know this as I name changed before to protect my identity then I forgot to switch back and it showed my original username)

Sparklingbrook · 14/03/2021 09:12

@JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows there's one all lower case letters.

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 14/03/2021 09:12

This is ego-less PR

🤣🤣🤣 I've heard it all now. 'Ego-less PR' - our beloved Kate. Said it before, the theories will never cease to amaze me.

Brilliant. If you change your point in the middle of a discussion because you don't like being proven wrong, what can I say.

yes dear, you are absolutely right. There you go, happy now. I go back to reading Mark Twain. Smile

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 14/03/2021 09:13

@burgerjack

because it's a good bit of news and he's a news editor so it's good for his job/reputation

not just his reputation though

You're under the misapprehension that media moguls give a shit about anyone else when they have a good story

I think I come to realise that there are some people who look at people with compassion and think the best of them. There are others that look at people and assume the worst. There just is. And that is why you get such polarised views.

SpringisSpinning · 14/03/2021 09:14

Glad she went, didn't have too but better in a mask if for Nothing else to look more discreet because her uncle in law has brought into women slavery for years and still hasn't spoken to the authorities about it.
Personally I couldn't have gone without a mask! I would have felt too staged and obvious.

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 14/03/2021 09:15

There are 2 - one that's you and the other all lowercase. I've always known nobody else can have an already taken username on MN - lowercase or not.

Blessex · 14/03/2021 09:16

@springisspinning you have to understand that at the time the DoC went - nobody would have been wearing masks in Clapham Common because people don’t wear masks to go for a walk on the Common. The masks started being put on later when I arrived and it was getting more busy.

Sparklingbrook · 14/03/2021 09:16

I think you're right. It's been a bit of a week for polarised views on here.
burgerjack · 14/03/2021 09:16

But if we are going to acknowledge violence against women & misogyny you can't really ignore PA in the context of the Royals can you?

He comes up whatever the context. Thread about the Royals? PA gets a mention. I don't personally see a connection between what KM did yesterday (what this thread's about)and whatever her husband's Uncle was /wasn't getting up to twenty years ago.

You don't see any connection between KM "showing" her feelings about male violence & expressing sympathy to Sarah and PA being linked to a known pedophile & sex trafficker & having his position protect him. Ok...

lynsey91 · 14/03/2021 09:17
@lynsey91 no she didn’t need to wear a mask. It is not law to wear masks outdoors. And when she was there it would have been easy to maintain distance. I know that for a fact because I was there 2 hours afterwards.
No I know it's not the law to wear a mask outside but surely when there are a lot of people together it is sensible to wear one?

Also if she didn't want to be recognised wearing a mask would have sorted that.

Now we have the papers printing pictures of Kate and making it more about her than the poor girl that was murdered.

cyclingmad · 14/03/2021 09:17

I don't buy unti this narrative that by going she is raising more awareness or itll be talked about more.

Its already in the press, its already being talked about. Her attending hasn't made thsle issue come to light any more than it has already.

If she wants to show anything why not start with sorting out the institution she is a part of instead of virtue signalling.

do people actually still believe that in 2021?

Nothing in the UK hasn't been published if not called or approved by the PR team or the palace.
