I'm on a healthy eating kick but Friday is "treat" dinner day. I decided to cook a massamam curry. Delicious right. Wrong! It. Was. BLAND! I'm so disappointed. I was looking forward to it all week and now just feel cheated.

Similar to you, StayIt, made a lamb biryani. Took 24 hours with the marinading of the lamb, followed the instructions to the letter. It was horrible. Washed the lamb chunks and gave them to our dogs. I don't think they thought it was my best attempt either.

HallowedGround · 12/03/2021 19:56

Made SW spring rolls from cannelloni once. It was like eating moss filled wellies.

ElizaLaLa · 12/03/2021 19:59

We are abroad, 8 months or so at this point. I heard about a chip shop in the next town over. We went thinking they would do real chip shop chips. No, they served up oven chips and frozen fish, in a fucking fishing village. People on the local fb page rave about it but I thought it was absolute jank. I didn't eat it and was fully prepared to tell them why but DH stopped me 🙄

purrswhileheeats · 12/03/2021 20:01

I made a Sri Lankan chicken curry last week, it was disappointing.

Juanbablo · 12/03/2021 20:09

Made a potato and pea curry which I cook all the time but for some reason this time it was so bland and tasteless.

isseys4xmastinselcats · 12/03/2021 20:11

a steak in a restaurant in Paris my trainers would have been more tender and no it wasnt a cheval steak it was supposed to be beef

annonymousse · 12/03/2021 20:15

My ex raved about swordfish steak and bought some to cook for us. He gave me the biggest one as I hadn't had it before. It was bland and greasy. Maybe he cooked it wrong but he enjoyed his so don't think so. I hated every mouthful but had to smile and pretend to enjoy it as I didn't want to hurt his feelings and he thought he was providing a real treat.

PurpleDaisies · 12/03/2021 20:16

I made cheese scones once that were so bad they were inedible.

kizzywizz · 12/03/2021 20:27

Way back in the early 80's, first holiday abroad with bf, went to seafront restaurant and ordered fish and chips, what came was a plate of chips with a massive slice of eel with a massive round bone in the middle. The chips were ok, couldn't even try the "fish".

Covetthee · 12/03/2021 20:32

In venice- Seafood linguine in a tomato garlic sauce.

Sounds great but it was the blandest thing i have ever had, i make better 10 minute pasta then what they served

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 12/03/2021 20:36

Spaghetti with king prawns on the Isle of Wight. I’m not a big fish lover but I do like king prawns. They’d covered the spaghetti in a fishy stock and it was absolutely disgusting. I couldn’t stomach it all. Think I recall I ate the few prawns that were there and had to leave the spaghetti in the bowl swimming in its fishy bath.

zzizzer · 12/03/2021 20:42

I slow cooked some veg tonight - sweet potato, carrots, parsnips etc - and it all vaguely tasted of soap somehow. Hoping I haven't managed to poison myself Grin

TiptopJ · 12/03/2021 20:43

Found a lobster and crayfish macaroni cheese in aldi over Christmas from part of their deluxe range. I'd been dieting since October until January to lose some baby weight and this was my treat once id hit my target. Everytime I opened the freeze I saw it and looked forward to it except when I actually had it it was totally bland and left a horrible aftertaste. Gutted as it so wasn't worth the calories.

TheChosenTwo · 12/03/2021 20:44

A rushed pulled pork job I did ages ago. Forgot to put the rub on it overnight so just did it in the morning, popped back during my lunch break to shove it in the oven and when we came to eat it in the evening it was so apparently how important it is to leave the rub on overnight Sad

ifancyagreencard · 12/03/2021 20:46

@purrswhileheeats was it from the new Mary Berry cookbook?

Rainbowandscarlett · 12/03/2021 20:48

Tonight
I always make curry using a jar but found a recipe for korma from scratch
I slaved for 3 hours,chopping,boiling,frying etc

My children have done shits the same colour of the sauce but figured it can’t be that bad as it smelt lush

It was rank-in fact rank isn’t strong enough to describe it

The only other meal that’s come close is 4 cheese pasta

It tasted of feet

Jenala · 12/03/2021 20:48

I ordered thai green curry from a local Thai restaurant recently and it was awful. So disappointing.

If you cooked your curry though, why was it bland? Did you not taste and season as you cooked it?

PandemicPalava · 12/03/2021 20:49

I made a fish taco on a health kick years ago. Vile. Absolutely vile

Fazabulous · 12/03/2021 20:53

Can I offer my Jamie Oliver beetroot cake?
I can only assume I did something wrong.
The kids wouldn’t eat it.
DH is a cake monster. One slice was enough for him, refused any more.
I put it out for the birds ...and had to collect it in when they pointedly ignored it.
I’ve never tried that recipe again, funny that

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 12/03/2021 20:53

Puttanesca in an Italian restaurant that was saltier than the Dead Sea. When I mentioned it (not really complaining, more a passing comment as to why I’d left so much – I had wine! All good), the waitress rolled her eyes and then the chef came and shouted about how puttanesca is meant to be salty. Couldn’t be arsed arguing but they didn’t get a tip.

partyatthepalace · 12/03/2021 21:06

Stir fries. Every one I make tastes and looks like a battered birds nest found under a hedge.

FuckingFabulous · 12/03/2021 21:29

I can't eat gluten. Once, I was asked to a dinner party and they'd done homemade chipshop fish and chips. Except I couldn't have batter or chips as they'd cooked the battered fish in the same oil. So I ended up with poached white fish (done in the microwave with water) and boiled to death white rice with a spoonful of mushy peas mixed through! It was disgusting. I imagine prison food to be more flavoursome. I seethed as everyone else enjoyed their massive portions of beer battered fish and chips

Hottesttrikeintown · 12/03/2021 21:40

I once ordered an egg Mayo sandwich in quite a nice hotel and it had no butter. I was enraged!

thefirstmrsrochester · 12/03/2021 21:50

Scallops with a caviar froth. 10th wedding anniversary dinner at Rogano, Glasgow. I had looked forward to this so much and it was less than ordinary. I was so disappointed.

Chimeraforce · 12/03/2021 22:02

Funnily enough I made chicken stew using proper chicken stock, veg spuds etc. Lots of onion garlic mustard herbs pepper.
Smelled amazing.
Bland as hell. Felt so cheated, got a KFC 😂
