F1 2021 and we have a Schumacher on the grid again

In the absence of a F1 forum I'd like to chat about all things F1 Grand Prix.

How will the season go? How will the newest Schumacher fare ?

I can't wait for the first race.

What an absolute farce!

Most exciting season for ages and it's totally ruined by a complete stewarding fuck up to end all fuck ups.

How typical of Max to think it was all to do with his brilliance and not down to incompetence - or worse.

ChequerBoard · 12/12/2021 14:55

No sorry, first decision was correct. Max was yet again using dirty tricks to force Lewis off the track. Lewis gave back any time advantage gained.

A racing finish is one thing but making up post safety car rules as you go along to change the result and close a long held 12 sec lead is totally another.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2021 14:55

Urgh Geri Halliwell. Getting in on it.

I hope there's a huge investigation.

@RedToothBrush

Hamilton had a favourable decision early on that was 'unfair'. Then Verstappen had one later on. But ultimately the officials wanted a motor race to be a motor race and Hamilton made two tactical decisions not to change his tires (one clearly against what the team were saying and expecting). That decision wasn't of Verstappen's making.

It was a thrilling ending. Its good for the sport.

If it was the other way around Hamilton fans would be saying the exact same thing ultimately.

This.

People were calling the decision at the beginning 'cheating' as well. And it's not Verstappen's fault that Hamilton was on old shitty tyres by the end.

ChequerBoard · 12/12/2021 14:57

And Lewis has the good grace to stay on that podium and take part in the celebrating.

Not like sulky Max who stomped off last race as soon as the national anthem finished, blanking everyone.

Exactly 😀

My issue is with the bullshit last second change, and then only waving through 5 of the lapped cars - the ones between Max and Lewis - instead of all of them. Complete and utter nonsense, and I'd think the same if it had the opposite effect too.

Lewis' team told him not to come in, he didn't make the decision. They decided it was best to keep track position.

I totally agree-what a marked difference in the way they behave.
BebesChamber · 12/12/2021 14:58

Is there a reason, other than to get him out of the way, that they retired Perez?

HannibalHayeski · 12/12/2021 14:59

What a farce. It's become a reality TV show. Either there are rules, or there aren't, you don't make them up as you go along.

I suspect this isn't over yet.

elizadoalittle · 12/12/2021 15:00

@catzrulz exactly what...?! It's bullishit, just you and one other who think the contrary.

Stuckforlong · 12/12/2021 15:00

Heartbreaking Lewis didn't win . I feel he was completely cheated , and Redbull Horner knows it could hardly look Lewis in the eye

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2021 15:00

I agree.

HannibalHayeski · 12/12/2021 15:00

And Lewis is showing commendable class.

ChequerBoard · 12/12/2021 15:01

Even Max's dad just said we are only here because of the safety car!!!

And me, what a bunch of sore losers 😂😂😂

But then how many other F1 races are like that? Its the nature of the sport.

Defo not over. All for somebody winning fair and square but cheating is disgusting.
PhilCornwall1 · 12/12/2021 15:04

Looks like the FIA are no longer Ferrari International Assistance.

Sparklingbrook · 12/12/2021 15:05

I am not a huge fan of either driver, I just enjoy F1, I would have felt the same if Lewis (or any other driver) had won under those circumstances. So it's not a case of 'sore losers'.

But having studied the behaviour of both drivers during these last two races then LH wins it for me.

Swirlywoo · 12/12/2021 15:05

A different decision early on wouldn't have made much difference anyway, his car was clearly faster and he had the whole race to go. It seems they thought Max stayed on the track by bumping his car off Lewis's.

Excellent sportsmanship from Lewis. Total gent compared with stroppy Max.

It was the team's, not Lewis's, decision to stay on the track. He questioned it and they told him not to worry. He didn't need to, either. He would have won it if that weird rule hadn't been made up.

MaryStuart · 12/12/2021 15:05

But if, as Nico is saying, MM can decide what he wants, what’s the bloody point of having rules.

ChequerBoard · 12/12/2021 15:06

Quite - the rules are written down but can be ignored on the whim of the race director?

GrouchyKiwi · 12/12/2021 15:08

Lewis is used to these strange decisions being made to disadvantage him. It has happened through his whole career.

DirectionToPerfection · 12/12/2021 15:08

The stewarding has been inconsistent all season, on several occasions that benefited Lewis (including the first lap today).

Red Bull took risks and it paid off. Merc were too conservative.

Well done Max.

Lewis already has seven championships and he'll be fighting for it again next year.
