Can't remember him harassing a woman on every single broadcast radio show, in the papers and on Newsnight because she rejected him.

I don't think getting rid of Morgan erodes his freedom of speech. He can still express his views as much as he wants, and indeed is still doing so. All that has happened is that he is not being provided with one particular platform, and is not being paid by his former employer.
He still has his 7 figure Daily Mail salary (mostly anti-Meghan articles), he'll go to another broadcaster and will still rant on every day to his 7 million Twitter followers, but 'i'm being cancelled'.

If I act like a twat at work and my employer get rid of me i've not been cancelled. I've just been a twat and it's their right.

It’s a difficult one . I think he has become a lazy journalist. He has an opinion and then once he has put that point over he will not listen to counter arguments. He does not discuss or debate he just constantly repeats his opinion . That’s why the MPs would not go on there . What was the point ? He would not listen anyway.

But we do have freedom of speech and what he was saying was his opinion about her .He was not talking about anyone else and he made that clear later .

Personally I won’t miss him because as I said I think he has become lazy , but we do have to make sure that freedom of speech does not get eroded .

That’s a good point about him becoming a lazy journalist. He can’t be bothered to put any effort into analysing anything . He just wants a big fat pay cheque and has found that shouting and hollering has made him a wealthy man

Sure Piers Morgan maybe act and talk like an absolute tosser, but whether you are right or wrong you are entitled to have an opinion - if we all thought the same it would be a boring world. As for Megan and Hewitt junior - behaving like spoilt children - she was suicidal and he didn't seek private professional help???? She still had time to be upset their child wasn't going to be a prince???? I remember her quote in Africa "You are all my sisters" Strange when you consider she won't even acknowledge her own sister (who I genuinely believe would really benefit from professional mental health counselling)

I dont believe everything she said was fact but I do believe she was stressed. I think she had a fantasy in her head that wasn't realised. If your not born royal it must be a shock, I can imagine it's a very different life.

There is a point at which expressing an opinion or freedom of speech becomes harassment, especially if poisons like misogyny and racism - whether overt or covert - are in play. PM, the Daily Fail and others crossed over into harassing Meghan long ago.

I don’t always agree with James O’Brien, but at least he has critical thinking skills .

Freedom of Speech does not give you the right to systematically carry out a public vendetta against another person due to personal reasons. He let his personal hatred of MM overrule his professional role as a broadcaster. He crossed a line.

It was interesting today to see how much more Susannah had to say he really did overtalk everyone - these shows should be about showing all sides of an argument he had become to single minded about a lot of things

If Piers Morgan was genuinely offended by Alex Beresford's calm and civilised criticisms ((as compared to his own vicious outpourings), then he is the epitome of a true bully - a coward at heart. I suspect this might have just been faux outrage, enabling him to raise his profile and become even more visible to a broadcasting area that might appreciate his obnoxious style of commentary - maybe he has an eye to one of the new right wing channels that will soon be on air - or he might already have been approached.

Although it was good to learn that there were thousands of complaints about his behaviour, it was also rather worrying to see that there were also many people who seem to be in favour of the sort of vitriol and character assassinations Piers Morgan has become known for.

all of this could have been avoided if harry and megan had sorted their problems out with the family behind closed doors instead of in front of millions with oprah, what was the point of that except for money, i am a royalist and am saddened to think harry could behave in this way, i wonder how wiliiam and charles are feeling

I agree, then have people to discuss it with him, have other voices on, have mental health representatives on.

Maybe GM could've worked on this theme and had MH professionals on to talk with Piers and it could've been worthwhile. But if Meghan's name was mentioned he would go catatonic again.

And then he stropped off
And was sacked/resigned.

Freedom of Speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences (from his bosses, from public opinion). It means he's not going to be arrested by the state for his opinion.

I don’t think in particular it is support for him , but it is the care we must take not to blur freedom of speech . I agree he went too far and I hate the daily fail , but it was his opinion about one person not mental health in general .

I don’t know quite what the answer is but I would love somehow to think we could improve our media in general .

During covid I think they have caused a lot of harm .

Piers Morgan went far too far in his criticism of Meghan Markle. However Harry and Meghan positioning themselves as oppressed people who have been 'silenced' is absolutely laughable. It is an insult to oppressed and silenced people all around the world. Disgusting in fact. Thinking back Charles and Diana also used their interviews to do the same and of course notoriously Andrew. None of them considered the deep hurt they caused to real victims and their own families. I cheered Diana on when I watched the Bashir interview but it caused deep pain to William and Harry. In years to come, Archie and his little sister will see Meghan and Harry's interview and their take on it may be different to what was intended.

Denying someone's experience of racism and that they had suicidal thoughts crosses a line no decent person would cross. So does denying someone's parentage. So does harassing and bullying a pregnant woman. Some people are so full of hate and have no shame.
