And his obsession with Meghan Markle.

Good. Piers Morgan is obsessed with her. And Alex called it right.

I wonder how his wife puts up with him ! She doesn't strike me as a walkover.
I used to have a boss who was a bully, big exrugby public school bully, my husband had worked with him so he knew I knew a few things about him so he didn't try it with me but he did bully others. The first time I heard him on the phone to his wife it was like a different person, all yes dear, no dear, sorry dear, of course dear and on and on and on. Then she came into the office to pick him up because his car was in the garage. He kept her waiting too long, he was in the general office giving some orders, she walked in, threw the car keys at him and said, "Your fucking kids are in the car."

Not sure if all bullies are bullied at home but it makes me think.

Agree with Alex calling Piers out, BUT do find Harry and Meghan awfully self indulgent, spoiled entitled pricks.
I can’t understand the cruelty towards her old Dad.
I think it was her cruelty towards him that made a lot of people start to dislike her preachy ways when she Markled her own father.

Unsure33 · 10/03/2021 18:08

It’s a difficult one . I think he has become a lazy journalist. He has an opinion and then once he has put that point over he will not listen to counter arguments. He does not discuss or debate he just constantly repeats his opinion . That’s why the MPs would not go on there . What was the point ? He would not listen anyway.

But we do have freedom of speech and what he was saying was his opinion about her .He was not talking about anyone else and he made that clear later .

Personally I won’t miss him because as I said I think he has become lazy , but we do have to make sure that freedom of speech does not get eroded .

@ancientgran

Apparently his wife agrees with him on this particular point .

@Frogartist

Oh I see, I was wondering if he sort of interrupted the weather forecast to speak out. Still fantastic, seems like they were all fed up with Piers.

Can't imagine that happening on the BBC weather forecast!

I think the first time I saw him do it was something about stabbings and he sort of shouted his views out and then joined the discussion. Don't know if it had happened before.

I'm not sure why but I tend to find the weather reporters annoying, Carol, him, Laura. Not sure what it is, maybe I just don't like hearing about the weather. The nonsense on the BBC about Carol is the worst.

I don't think getting rid of Morgan erodes his freedom of speech. He can still express his views as much as he wants, and indeed is still doing so. All that has happened is that he is not being provided with one particular platform, and is not being paid by his former employer.

longwayoff · 10/03/2021 18:12

Ha. She would, wouldn't she. How do you fancy sharing a home with him?

Err it could be the fact he has only been interested in her since she has become famous or the fact he sold a private letter of hers to the press?

@Unsure33 I'm not sure how freedom of speech is being eroded at calling out a bully who has behaving like a dog with a bone. I'm pretty sure that Alex wouldn't have said what he said had it not been for the fact Piers constantly goes after Meghan.

Nith · 10/03/2021 18:15

@Kempyjo

You know what I actually like the bloke he says what everyone else wants to but are to scared incase they get backlash.
"Everyone"? Do you really think everyone else is as obsessive about MM as he is?
LolaSmiles · 10/03/2021 18:16

I'm glad Piers was called out on his long running issue with Meghan, but I do agree with what he said today about free speech.

He should be allowed to say he doesn't believe a word of her interview, just like any presenter or journalist should be able to say that about anyone that conducts a public interview.

I find the idea of sacred groups/people who nobody can speak against to be problematic (and yes I think the press should have been much more on it with the Andrew reporting as long as they weren't going to say anything that jeopardised investigatons). He has been one of the few people willing to grill politicians during lockdown and point out where they are bullshitting the public.

Her so called ‘father’ who lied about her, sold stories to the gutter press and continues to lambast Meghan and Harry. For some reason I don’t think that some people would have been as sympathetic if Meghan’s mother had behaved in the manner in which her ‘father’ has
Roussette · 10/03/2021 18:24

So.. in saying he doesn't believe a word of what she says.. do you no think that is damaging to people who are suicidal and just want people to understand that?
There are wider issues at play

Pleasethinkbeforebuying · 10/03/2021 18:26

What is wrong with many of you?
Sure Piers Morgan maybe act and talk like an absolute tosser, but whether you are right or wrong you are entitled to have an opinion - if we all thought the same it would be a boring world.
As for Megan and Hewitt junior - behaving like spoilt children - she was suicidal and he didn't seek private professional help???? She still had time to be upset their child wasn't going to be a prince????
I remember her quote in Africa "You are all my sisters" Strange when you consider she won't even acknowledge her own sister (who I genuinely believe would really benefit from professional mental health counselling)

He doesn’t grill politicians because he doesn’t allow them to speak and do cannot be held to account
Roussette · 10/03/2021 18:28

Who is Hewitt junior FFS

I should say... what's the matter with you for writing such idiotic stuff. They didn't even meet until Harry was two.
Pathetic.

Can't be bothered to read the rest

I agree, then have people to discuss it with him, have other voices on, have mental health representatives on.

Don't petition to get the gobshite sacked so that he can do the journalism equivalent of Nigel Farage and play the part of wounded man who is ousted by the establishment. The likes of Farage, Katie Hopkins and Piers Morgan thrive on drama and being the 'I tell it like it is' person. Why give him everything he needs to further monopolise on that, which will draw people to whatever more Fox News style venture he goes to next?

It really runs me the wrong way when people use Freedom of Speech as a cover to harass and bully individuals It’s wrong and it sets a dangerous precedent
merrymelody · 10/03/2021 18:33

Alex wasn't cool and measured at all. He was spluttering and babbling.

Hi Piers, you spluttering, babbling fragile man-baby
Ddot · 10/03/2021 18:35

I liked him at one point but he just became a bully who shouted over everyone. Mathew write was the same. Power goes to their heads

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/03/2021 18:37

Piers Morgan has stated he was entitled to freedom of speech, but can't take it if anyone else Ex decide theirs, which differs from his
My old school friend works with Alex at regional itv and says he's a decent guy, not afraid of putting his opinion forward
This also struck a personal note for him as he experienced the same before his son was born
His nephew was fatally stabbed in London a couple of years agoSad
