How long does it take you to eat a meal?

Say if you're on your own so not chatting/doing other stuff, just sat down to eat your lunch or tea? Thinking about "normal" food so a sandwich and crisps/yoghurt or something like cottage pie/pasta
There's a reason Grin I spent a decade in a job where you had to throw your food down your neck and I'm starting to wonder if I still eat too fast...

5 minutes? But I grew up with an older brother who was like a vulture and if you dithered you didn't eat! So probably not the best comparison to make.

ThePricklySheep · 07/03/2021 20:25

5-10 minutes? 5 for a sandwich, maybe 10 for dinner.

WonkyCactus · 07/03/2021 20:25

Not long, maybe a few minutes. Probably 5-7 minutes depending on what I'm eating.

But how are you with other people? Are you finished and they’re just starting?

QueenPaw · 07/03/2021 20:27

@ThePricklySheep not that I've noticed but I don't tend to eat with others! At work we all have lunch at a different time too

5-10 mins if it's a tasty burger, pizza or curry, 30 mins if it's "healthy" green shite.

purrswhileheeats · 07/03/2021 20:29

I still eat slowly. Throwback to when I was a child and force fed inedible, tough lumps of grisle Grin

Ostryga · 07/03/2021 20:30

5-10 mins? 30 if I’m having wine and chatting!

Bloodybridget · 07/03/2021 20:32

I eat much too fast unless we're in company and trying to be polite. No more than ten minutes for dinner.

Letsgetbizzy · 07/03/2021 20:32

I'm well slow... dither with my phone and cutting stuff up and turning the plate round and watching TV. Can take well over 1/2 an hour...more....

Letsgetbizzy · 07/03/2021 20:32

I'm eating now. Had one mouthful.... been sat 5 minutes

EileenGC · 07/03/2021 20:34

‘Gulped’ a pizza in under 10 tonight. That was with Netflix on, and playing on my phone at the same time so pretty distracted.

Lunch is normally 5. I too blame various workplaces in my late teens where you had to eat whilst running from one task to the other. The 20 minute break was an illusion that remains unfulfilled to this date.

BramStoker · 07/03/2021 20:37

I eat far to fast. Always have done.

If no chatting then I suspect I would easily finish in under 5mins

Suzi888 · 07/03/2021 20:44

20 mins, longer if I’m chatting.

ZombiePara · 07/03/2021 20:52

Too quickly. Whatever the food, too quickly.

I finish meals before anyone else, whether immediate, extended family, friends or colleagues.

Always been on the faster side of eating, however my job has 1x 30 minute break per shift, so it is a case of the quicker it goes down the more chill time...

QueenPaw · 07/03/2021 21:03

@ZombiePara same.. my lunch is 30 mins at work

Egghead68 · 07/03/2021 21:05

5-10 mins depending on if I have pudding and how much cutting up and chewing is involved.

Faerysmoke · 07/03/2021 21:07

15-20 minutes. I've always eaten slowly. Whenever I eat with other ppl I am always the last to finish. I like to savour my food!

MrsSugar · 07/03/2021 21:17

I take aaaages. I just cannot eat fast I don’t know how ppl do it ! If I try to I end up choking. My husband is always finished his dinner so fast n sits there while I slowly finish lol ! Doesn’t stop me eating mind u I’m on the chunky side

DartmoorChef · 07/03/2021 21:20

At home or dining out I take ages. At work as a chef its a case of quickly eating a sandwich between orders

BrownEyedGirl80 · 07/03/2021 21:21

10 mins or so

QueenPaw · 07/03/2021 21:55

I don't feel as bad now! I sat down to eat and it was under 10 mins and felt it was really fast

I’m a really slow eater and started a job last August with only 30mins break. At first I struggled to eat my roll and crisps in that time but I’ve managed to speed up my eating a bit so I can be done in 20mins.

It takes the joy out of food for me though, like a pp I love food (a bit too much) and want to savour it when I eat.

AndeanMountainCat · 08/03/2021 00:52

I eat very slowly. Always have done.

Palata · 08/03/2021 01:03

On my own about 5/10mins probably less for a sandwich, but I have to have gluten free bread, so those tiny slices are gone in about two bites Grin
