Does anyone else think that the Harry & Meghan show isn't going to be that explosive?

I really doubt that loads of dirt will be raked, or muck spread. I'm guessing that there will be a few "it was hard to speak" type complaints, which the media will blow up, but that it's not actually going to be as exciting as we're all being led to believe?

Didn't Megan say the comments re skin colour of Archie were made when she was pregnant, but Harry go on to say they were mentioned when they were getting engaged?
Yes they can’t get anything straight these too. So confused by their own lies
sadie9 · 08/03/2021 10:03

I think any young woman marrying into the royal family would feel 'bullied' if they were unaware that it's a 'live-in position' with very strict protocols. To include dress hem lengths.

jay55 · 08/03/2021 10:03

@Toddlerteaplease

The bit about no knowing she needed to curtesy to the Queen. Surely Harry would have told her what to expect!
I'd have thought setting Megan up with some time with Camilla or Sophie or someone from the palace to run through all the protocol and rigmarole would have made sense. But I think Harry didn't expect to have to ask, he expects everything to magically happen, for all his thinking to be done for him.

I really wasn’t expecting it to be that explosive and more to come apparently. I think that is is now for Harry and the royal family. The Americans are loving it though so they will be ok financially.

wintertime6 · 08/03/2021 10:06

Actually the more I think about what she has said in the interview the more angry I'm getting! If she's making allegations of racism, I'm assuming this happened when she was a working royal? In which case you go through the usual channels via the HR department? Did she do that? Or just decide to bring it up a couple of years later on the sofa with Oprah instead? I'll be tuning in tonight to see what she has actually said, but what a mess both of them have created?

Would anyone love to be a fly on the wall in Will and Kate's living room when they watched the interview? They're always so composed in public but I bet there was some swearing at the tv when they watched it 🤣🤣

CallmeHendricks · 08/03/2021 10:07

Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, also grandchildren of the monarch, weren't styled Prince or Princess either, at Princess Anne's own request, I believe. She was looking ahead to when they would need to make their own way in the world.

ShallowCoastalWaters · 08/03/2021 10:07

I think this interview is not just damaging to the RF but also damaging to US/UK relations generally.

Just looking at Twitter there is so much hostility from US media/US accounts to not just the RF but towards British culture generally.

They had a platform where they could have done so much good but they have used it to be divisive. The opposite of all their so called mission statement of changing the world with one act of compassion at a time.

DinoHat · 08/03/2021 10:08

Surely all this has a limited lifespan too? I get the impression they are trying to raise funds to fund their luxury lifestyle but they’ve cut their ties now. No new material, they’ll never get the same price tag to rehash it again. Meghan is too famous to be taken seriously in an acting role.

Meredithgrey1 · 08/03/2021 10:09

The not getting help for therapy does confuse me as surely they could find this through a discreet contact.

That bit makes me wonder what on earth the set up is in the royal family for this to happen. I mean, I’ve been suicidal (in my case it was PND) and wasn’t in a position to get help for myself so DH did it. Are they saying that Harry is so obedient that when told Meghan couldn’t get help, that was what happened? I can’t wrap my head around the dynamics of this place. Wouldn’t he just put her in the car and say he’s made an appointment and he’s taking her to get help and if they aren’t happy about it they are going to have to physically stop him.

@Thewithesarehere

Does anyone else suspect it may have been Prince Philip who expressed concerns about the colour of the baby?
First thought I had
WinnieThePoohWeNeedAPoo · 08/03/2021 10:10

I think Piers Morgan needs to back off completely because he is one of the main reasons she is discussed negatively by the media and then by the rest of the population.

Piers is the epitome of a bruised male ego. He's despicable and pathetic the way he "loved Meghan at first" and thought the world of her but then started slagging her off every chance he got because she ghosted him and stopped replying to his emails after getting involved with Harry. What did he expect? Terrible big-little man.

@TheStreamThatStoodStill

A commentator on BBC news has just talked about the Palace "refusing to give Archie a title because of his skin colour" and that "an act was paased by the Palace to ensure he couldn't have a title". I am genuinely baffled by this. I thought that the fact was that Archie, due to the ancient laws of succession etc, could not have a title until Charles ascends the throne?
If this is true, then this is a humongous issue, real serious white supremacy stuff and they shouldn't keep the name out. Perhaps they want others to do the investigation themselves.

Also Edward’s. It’s only Andrew that thought royal titles for his kids were a good idea and in general he is not a good person to emulate.

But Harry himself had counselling. Why didn’t Meghan do it?

She did but was told she wasn't a paid working royal so nothing they could do.

'I think this interview is not just damaging to the RF but also damaging to US/UK relations generally. Just looking at Twitter there is so much hostility from US media/US accounts to not just the RF but towards British culture generally.'

It's awful isn't it. Flies in the face of everything they purport to represent. The whole thing is toxic and should have been handled privately not in this trashy way.

Allington · 08/03/2021 10:18

Shock headlines - couple who have made a very good living out of being born/marrying into bizarre and archaic institution express shock at institution being bizarre and archaic...

Through interview with chat show host who is only interested in them because of their connection to the bizarre and archaic institution...

This. So toxic and immature, it's almost unbelievable.

ShallowCoastalWaters · 08/03/2021 10:22

It has already been confirmed that the 'dark skin' comments were not by the Queen or Prince Philip.

My money is on Charles- the way Meghan said it would be very damaging for the person to name them. It has to be a direct heir to the Throne (so Charles or William).

Also context is everything - it could have been said in a racist way which would of course be abhorrent. It could also have been said in an empathetic way - given the racist undertone of some of the press the couple had had previously. Like - do you have any worries or concerns and how can we help protect you and your son.

But then who knows, Harry has said some shockingly racist things himself in the past IN FRONT of the media - so god knows what terms this family uses behind closed doors. He obviously had no idea calling a colleague the 'P' word was offensive.

8090sTv · 08/03/2021 10:23

The only way he could have a title as great grandson is if the Queen steps in and gives him one. She did this with Wills and Kates 2nd and 3rd.

I suspect the real reason she didn't with Archie is much more boring and to do with Harry and Meghan not really being emotionally sure about the role they wanted, and not wanting to heap the pressure or manipulate the situation. And possibly she expected Charles to help financially with Archies protection.

GemmeFatale · 08/03/2021 10:24

I wonder if Kate made her cry by being blunt about the life of a royal spouse.

theleafandnotthetree · 08/03/2021 10:25

@sadie9

The Queen is being painted as Mrs Lovely Person. The wealthiest woman in the world who'll be popping her clogs in the next few years. And has written a Will.
It's very cynically done, it seems the only person in the RF they gush about is the queen. Maybe that's because they genuinely found her to be the most kind and supportive or maybe it's because they know that even amongst the most ardent republicans there is enormous respect for the queen and if they dissed her it would 100% be game over for them in terms of anyone anywhere thinking they were anything but a pair of whiny narcissistic ingrates. And the money of course....
TrickyD · 08/03/2021 10:26

A woman on Women’s Hour is just saying it is incomprehensible that anyone could have discussed the possible colour of Archie’s skin.

Of course they did. One of the delights have having mixed race children (or in our case grandchildren) is wondering and looking forward to discovering, what skin colour they will have.
