My toothbrush is haunted

I was woken about 4am this morning by a weird buzzing noise so I got up to see if I could find where it was coming from. I live in a small flat so not many options. I went into the bathroom to find my electric toothbrush whirring away at the side of the sink. Today I tried to push the button to a point where it could start without human intervention. I couldn’t find such a point though and the button is either on or it’s off. Is my toothbrush possessed? I’ve had it for about 4 years and it’s not displayed any signs that it is capable of activitating itself without human intervention. Should I be scared of it? Am I likely to wake to find it trying to brush me to death? Has anyone been through anything similar?

We had the same recently. I think it's just an electrical fault. We chucked ours away because it wasn't charging properly anymore either.

noblegiraffe · 05/03/2021 23:59

Poltergeist sending you a message from beyond the veil. Have you been neglecting your check-ups?

Hawkmoth · 06/03/2021 00:01

I think, from reading on here, that there is someone living in your loft.

Good luck...

I used to have a kettle which would switch itself on. The first time it happened I was home alone and it frightened the life out of me.

Dodgypainting · 06/03/2021 00:10

noblegiraffe. My dentist isn’t doing checkups so the answer to your question is yes.

ichundich. Was yours on charge when it did it? Mine wasn’t on its charger at the time.

There will be an electric circuit faulty, water in the circuit could trip the switch?

Dodgypainting · 06/03/2021 00:29

wonderstuff. Thanks that sounds reassuring

That happened to one of our toothbrushes. Came home to an empty house and heard a buzzing/rattling noise and was terrified. Was so relieved to find it was just a toothbrush!

TaraR2020 · 06/03/2021 00:50

I was so intrigued when I read your title coz I assumed old fashioned toothbrush and I imagined it flying through the air and hitting you in the eye. Or strange things happening after you bought it.

I'm actually really disappointed coz your haunting is probably just a fault Sad

PomBearWithoutHerOFRS · 06/03/2021 02:49

It'll be moisture getting into it from the bathroom. Keep it somewhere else and it'll behave Grin

I wouldn't dismiss this too quickly. This time last year someone's badge predicted covid. Maybe you could ask your toothbrush nicely to make covid go away?

BeanieB2020 · 06/03/2021 05:10

Someone's badge predicted covid?! I need to read that thread! Link?

Ocsetldil · 06/03/2021 05:13

It’s Derek Acorah.

Homemadesoupmmmmm · 06/03/2021 05:56

Ahhh bless Derek Acorah such a lovely genuine man.

Tara. Im so sorry. That must have been really disappointing.

Oh no please not Derek Acorah. I’d rather have a whirring toothbrush in the small hours then Derek and Sam re-enacting an encounter with Henry VIII. That is going to keep me AND the entire block awake.

I’ll try asking the toothbrush if it will stop with the Covid but it’s been really quiet since it last tried to communicate with me. I can’t make any promises.

It was, thank you, but im getting over it now.

Maybe one day I'll have a haunted toothbrush Smile

DenisetheMenace · 06/03/2021 13:00

Yep. Envious, toothless Victorian spirit.

peak2021 · 06/03/2021 13:08

MN classics here we come!

I bet any guarantee ran out the day before yesterday!

Dodgypainting · 06/03/2021 13:31

Tara. Glad to hear you are getting over the crushing disappointment. I could post the toothbrush to you and you can borrow it for a bit if you like. Though it’s ominously silent since it’s episode.

peak. The guarantee has long since expired which is amazing in itself as usually any problems begin the day after the warranty period ends.

Apparently, BirdieFriend says that “the end” is soon “cos the plague is coming mummy.”

TaraR2020 · 09/03/2021 01:17

@Dodgypainting that's very kind of you, thank you, but I think second-hand haunted toothbrushes are a bit....weird.

Sorka · 09/03/2021 02:16

I once had an electric toothbrush which had been absolutely fine until one night it turned itself on and wouldn’t turn off. It was the middle of the night so I left it in the garage where I couldn’t hear it to make it a morning problem.
