I’m just finishing Hear My Song in Amazon Prime, starring a very young Adrian Dunbar, Tara Fitzgerald and James Nesbit among others.

If you can get through the rousing final five minutes without your toes tapping and your hands clapping you are better than me!

It’s nonsensical, whimsical nostalgia and twee Irish, but marvellous.

The discovery of heaven with Steven Fry.
It's after a book by the Dutch author Harry Mullish and it is an amazing movie.

@DGRossetti

Dazed and Confused made me remember the film The Song Remains the Same - basically about Led Zeppelin.

Saw that (aged 16) at the Roxy Club in Wardour St ... (Double bill with "Easy Rider"). Hard to argue with Peter Grants label: The most expensive home movie ever made

It was brilliant though!

OM actual G - Easy Rider! The beginning of a longtime love of Jack Nicholson.

vampirethriller · 06/03/2021 19:30

Plunkett and Macleane is one of my favourite films.
I love Planet Terror too, nobody has ever heard of it. And Ed Wood with Johnny Depp is lovely.

It used to be shown with the Woodstock movie at my local cinema, many a happy evening spent watching those

In Bruges. It is surreal.

It's a really enjoyable and entertaining film. Which is odd considering what happens in it. Confused

MichonnesBBF · 06/03/2021 19:35

In total honesty i have not read the full thread so i apologise if anyone has already mentioned it, if they have trust them they have great taste Smile

'Train to Busan' is a great Korean film.

Etulosba · 06/03/2021 19:37

Red Dog

tobee · 06/03/2021 19:37

Frances Ha is a good film.

Lots of these I want to see again.

Another good one is Daytrippers with Stanley Tucci.

DudeistPriest · 06/03/2021 19:39

I love the OPs choice Hear my Song DH found it and we liked it so much we used to watch it all the time.

Not sure how many people have heard of it, maybe loads, but I have to mention The Big Lebowski which is not only a cult film but has inspired our religion of Dudeism. Today is The Day of The Dude, our main dudeist holiday that marks the day it was first released in cinemaa 23 years ago.

"
Oh, and I meant Things To Do In Denver When You’re DEAD, not Dated 😂"

I was wondering if that typo was some kind of teen movie inspired by the title @SinkGirl

tobee · 06/03/2021 19:41

@mamakoukla

Worth watching just to see Baryshnikov dance

And just gasp at his beauty Wink

poundoflard · 06/03/2021 19:43

@Iveputmyselfonthenaughtystep
I saw,The Assasin on a coach travelling round Oz. I was gripped and then gutted as we got off before it finished!

@NoMackerelInSwindon

This is why MN is becoming a bit insipid. The idea is to post films you love that no one else knows. The problem is that half of the films posted here people will know. I do and I am no film buff.

Bit harsh

White Nights, featuring Mikhail Baryshnikov. He can move exquisitely! Story is of a ballet dancer who had defected from Russia (which Baryshnikov did do), and on a flight finds himself back in Russia due to an emergency landing. He is held prisoner, is made to dance, and is paired with an American idealist (Richard Pryor). Story of their relationship evolution and I know there’s a hostage exchange at the end. Also features Helen Mirren IIRC
Oh yes and a very young exquisitely beautiful Isabella Rossellini!
poundoflard · 06/03/2021 19:46

Things to do in Denver when you're dead was also fab.

My favourite is The unbearable lighteness of Being.

Or Tricolour bleu.
Both have Juliette Binoche in

tobee · 06/03/2021 19:49

@Helocariad

Eat Drink Man Woman. Topsy Turvy by Mike Leigh, with Jim Broadbent and Lesley Manville

Topsy Turvy is an excellent film. Not only got Jim Broadbent and Timothy Spall in it but also the underrated Martin Savage.

poundoflard · 06/03/2021 19:50

I've remembered another,

The Doll maker with Jane Fonda.
I cried buckets at that one.

Pyewackect · 06/03/2021 19:51

Hell Drivers : 1957, Stanley Baker, Patric McGoohan and a very young Sean Connery. Directed by Cy Enfield

MarzipanMadness · 06/03/2021 19:51

A Knight’s Tale. Poor boy comes good feel good movie with a foot stomping soundtrack and Heath Ledger and Paul Bethany

My kids watched it all the time when they were young but none of their friends had ever seen it. Highly recommend it for family viewing

Oh, the Three Colours is a trilogy, if you enjoyed the Blue , there's also White and Red.
ThePluckOfTheCoward · 06/03/2021 19:53

Love, Honour and Obey with a fantastic cast including Ray Winstone, Jude Law, Johnny Lee Miller, Sadie Frost. Absolutely hilarious and has the squelchiest (and funniest) sex scene Ever. Bloody brilliant film.

Jaxhog · 06/03/2021 19:53

@onyourway

The Tall Guy. Richard Curtis' first film with Emma Thompson, Rowan Atkinson and Jeff Goldblum. I can't find it anywhere and I'd love to watch it again.

Think Richard Curtis has buried it Smile

One of my favourites too!
Pyewackect · 06/03/2021 19:55

The Greengage Summer was another. 1961, starring a very young Susannah York and Kenneth More. From the Novel by Rumer Godden.

Love old British films.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 06/03/2021 19:56

Wings of desire, a moving and beautifully shot German film from the late 80s about an angel who falls in love with a trapeze artist. He can hear humans hidden thoughts and fears.

I know where I’m going, fab 1945 b/w Powell and Pressburger film with great characters, strong female lead and wonderful atmospheric Scottish setting.

Jaxhog · 06/03/2021 19:56

Another favourite is Steve Martin's 'The man with two brains' .
