I’m just finishing Hear My Song in Amazon Prime, starring a very young Adrian Dunbar, Tara Fitzgerald and James Nesbit among others.

If you can get through the rousing final five minutes without your toes tapping and your hands clapping you are better than me!

It’s nonsensical, whimsical nostalgia and twee Irish, but marvellous.

Film Stars don't die in Liverpool with Annette Bening and Jamie Bell. Based on the true life story of Gloria Grahame.

In The Heat of the Night .

At the time the director and lead actor got death threats for taking the role.

@Spudina if my kids are in the way of the tv I’ll shout ‘heeeddd’ in a Scottish accent 🤣 they have no idea why but it makes me laugh.
Used to watch So I married an axe murderer on repeat when I was younger. I had a massive Mike Myers crush.
Came on to mention the thing called love with very young River Phoenix, Sandra Bullock and Samantha Mathis. I fell in love with country music when I watched it. Used to be a bit obsessed.

Two, solar babies and mindhunters with Val Kilmer

Cherish, a 2002 film starring Robin Tunney as a young woman under house arrest and Tim Blake Nelson as the technician monitoring her ankle bracelet. It's a black comedy, a rom-com and a thriller all rolled into one. Really quirky (in the best possible way) and bittersweet.

@tobee

Thinking of Babettes Feast reminds me of Big Night with Stanley Tucci
Oh yes that is a lovely movie. And the final scene where they make omelettes in real time as the relationship between the brothers repairs before you eyes is really a fascinating bit of film making.
CaffineismyBFF · 06/03/2021 08:39

I forgot to add, what dreams may come is a beautiful film and probably the best one from Robin Williams. Its about a man who dies and goes to Heaven, but his wife can't deal with his death and commits suicide and goes to hell. He then goes to find her. Sounds corny but it was such an emotional movie, I love it! Think City of Angels but better!

MargotMoon · 06/03/2021 10:19

@nevernotstruggling Yes! Great film. Although I watched a Netflix series he was in recently and it was atrocious. He was good but the writing was terrible

VienneseWhirligig · 06/03/2021 10:37

@iloveautumn3 yes! Wish You Were Here is great. Up your bum!

tothesea · 06/03/2021 10:47

I watched P’tang yang Kipperbang recently as it’s in All4 and it’s as sweet and lovely as the first time I watched it when Ch4 started. It was funny though how my perspective changed from watching it as a child and not really getting what was going on with the adults!

NeedToKnow101 · 06/03/2021 11:04

It's an old film rather than obscure film, but Rosemary's Baby is worth a watch if you haven't seen it (not if you're pregnant though!)

ChequerBoard · 06/03/2021 11:22

Sing Street. Boy growing up in 1980s Ireland forms a band to impress a girl. Fantastic set pieces as he evolves his musical taste through emulating different groups and artists of the period. A must for 1980s music fans. Love It!

@Bluesheep8

Most people I mention it to have never heard of it - The Watcher In The Woods with Bette Davis
Oh I think I remember it! Early 80s creepy film for kids? As a child it really scared me!
PuppyMonkey · 06/03/2021 11:58

P’tang yang kipperbang.
Uhh.

I have no memory of the film at all but I still say this all the time. Grin

the80sweregreat · 06/03/2021 12:07

P tang yang kipperbang : I ve never seen it , but I remember the title , as it's so unusual.
I looked it up online and it refers to a secret code the character uses as part of a gang at school! Alison Steadman is in it too.

NoMackerelInSwindon · 06/03/2021 12:10

The Legend of The Holy Drinker with Ruthger Hauer.

A young man arrives in Paris and through a series of bad luck and a pre disposition to alcoholism descends into self-destruction.

the80sweregreat · 06/03/2021 12:11

I love Rosemary's baby!
The book is a good read too.

Delicatessen. Quirky and brilliant.

midsomermurderess · 06/03/2021 12:18

Ascenseur pour l'Echafaud (Lift to the Scaffold). Louis Malle 1964. It's been described as a 'brilliant, preposterous slice of noir suspense'. Sound track by Miles Davis. Just marvellous.

the80sweregreat · 06/03/2021 12:33

In Bruges. It is surreal.
