NC for this one

What would you do? Confess? Pretend you don't know why it's not working? Quite new to the role so I'm feeling a bit scared. Done the bag of rice thing. Now charging and praying. Fml 🤦‍♀️

Confess, but maybe say you dropped it in the sink! How long has it been in rice for? I think it can take a couple of days for the rice to dry it out.

I thought from your thread title that it was maybe a Devil Wears Prada style phone-in-the-fountain flounce. Bit disappointed that it was an accident! Wink

Chimoia · 03/03/2021 21:55

Claim it was a puddle.

Chimoia · 03/03/2021 21:55

Actually just tell them it got wet.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 03/03/2021 21:57

A lot of new phones are water resistant for a few minutes. Could yours be?

iamaclumsytwat · 03/03/2021 22:01

I wish it was more glamorous!
It was a classic put it in the back pocket and squat moment. No wee involved and I got to it very quickly 😂

It's a Samsung. Are they robust by nature? Did it once with an iPhone and it died completely. You can't even remove the back from modern phones to dry them out ffs 🤦‍♀️

There was a story at my work about someone ringing IT because their keyboard had stopped working, the IT guy came, lifted up the keyboard and out poured a cup load of coffee ...

Cupoftchaiagain · 03/03/2021 22:05

Don’t charge it or switch it on unless you are SURE it’s as dry as u can get it.
You’ll fry the electrics in it.

GrimSisters · 03/03/2021 22:05

Samsungs are a lot hardier than iPhone. I think they've been decently waterproof, or at least resistant from the Galaxy S8 onwards.

mynameisigglepiggle · 03/03/2021 22:07

Just say you dropped it in some water. These things happen. I've worked at the same place for 13 years and usually really careful but 18 months ago I managed to break three laptops in three months!!

LynetteScavo · 03/03/2021 22:07

Don't turn it on till it's dry

A few years ago I dropped my iphone down the loo and the screen went really funny- I thought I had nothing to lose so DS opened it up, and I blotted up the water with kitchen roll. It somehow magically worked perfectly once it had dried out properly . Don't stress, I think it will be fine.

Seagullslanding · 03/03/2021 22:09

I dropped my Samsung into the sink, it was there a couple of minutes. I found it by calling it. The only damage was that I couldn't use it on speaker phone I had to use close to my ear. That was about may last year. You might get away with it.

mnahmnah · 03/03/2021 22:11

You need to get it to a repair person who will take it apart and dry it properly. I did the rice thing and it worked fine for a few weeks, then stopped. Took it for repair and they said it had slowly corroded. If I had taken it in. When it happened it would have been fine

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 03/03/2021 22:13

You’re not alone. I did the same thing. In the same way. I killed mine though, this was a few years ago. Luckily we had a good house insurance policy that covered it.

Cakeandslippers · 03/03/2021 22:16

Not quite the same but I managed to actually flush my work pass down the toilet the day after I got it 🤦‍♀️. Was a bit awkward having to explain!
Good luck, hopefully it'll survive.

WouldstrokeTomHardy · 03/03/2021 22:21

Theres a rice trick. Fill a container with rice and bury phone. Leave over night or longer. Oh and turn it off first

Iwantamarshmallowman · 03/03/2021 22:22

My Samsung is waterproof... i now only buy waterproof phones for this very reason. Its happend more than once and the rice thing never works .. what model is it ?

iamaclumsytwat · 03/03/2021 22:27

Thanks folks. Is this a girl thing though? Never known of a single man that's done this 😂 Too much multitasking going on... ooooh need a brew (sorry brew haters), oooh need a wee... shit the phone might ring... put phone in jeans back pocket... oh shiiiit phone has gone plop in the toilet... mad scramble to retrieve it... etc

Might just confess to my new manger that she made a terrible mistake employing me and be done with it.

May have to work from the office rather than home forthwith...

You've never known a man who has admitted to doing it.

Men don't always turn and sit on the loo, though, which women do every time. Plus men's trousers usually have more generous pockets than women's trousers, so it probably does happen to women more than men for those reasons.

randomsabreuse · 03/03/2021 22:44

Men's trousers have much better pockets so it's far less likely.

iamaclumsytwat · 03/03/2021 22:50

This is true. Men have it so much easier in all aspects of life though don't they? Going to 'fess up in the morning if all is lost.

Say a little prayer for me peeps x

If it makes you feel any better, I wrote off a company car six months into a new job. Totally my fault, but stayed in the for 11 years afterwards.

Another colleague knocked a cup of coffee over his laptop, requiring a replacement, in his first week.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/03/2021 22:52

One of my former colleagues, beagle chewed her supposedly bomb proof work iPod a few years ago. Apparently the cases were supposed to survive a big fall. It did t survive the dog!

DeltaAlphaDelta · 03/03/2021 22:54

I also dropped a new iphone in a pint of lemonade. I sprayed it with wd40 and put it to dry in front of a radiator for two days, and i had it for another 2 years. Im not recommending it as a fix tho!

PPNC · 03/03/2021 22:56

Don’t use it!! I’ve dropped mine in water far more than I should have. Switch off instantly 24hrs in rice, no problem.

If you didn’t switch it off you’re fucked Grin

Just tell them you dropped it in the sink, it’s a co phone, shit happens.
