Craving cake...what shall I make?

All I can think of is a basic Victoria sponge or fairy cakes. Is there anything else that I can make with basic storecupboard ingredients?

Got any lemons...lemon drizzle cake
Apples...apple and cinnamon muffins
Sultanas...rock cakes
Scones?
Jam buns (I don't know the recipe but they are a bit like rock cakes with a blob of jam in the centre, have a google)

Hmm, apple and cinnamon muffins sound good!

No lemons, unfortunately. I love a good lemon drizzle cake.

Depends what you have. Lemon drizzle, chocolate cake, coconut cake

Don't think we have coconut. Plenty of dark chocolate, though.

Chocolate cake or apple pie, or gingerbread perhaps?

AlexaShutUp · 03/03/2021 14:52

Also have raisins, glace cherries, apples, oranges, some blueberries, walnuts, oats. Tons of eggs, plenty of flour, sugar and butter. Vanilla essence. Icing sugar. Cinnamon, nutmeg, dried ginger. Lemon juice (no lemons). Fresh ginger.

If you have plenty of dark chocolate, make brownies. Far easier than faffing around with creaming.

I recently discovered the recipe below, the 'normal mum' is Holly Bell, who sells her brownies as 'Mrs Bells Brownies'.

Flapjacks
Rocky road
Coffee sponge
Some kind of ginger, raisin and oatmeal cookie?

cherrytreecottage · 03/03/2021 15:17

School sponge!! It's the new banana bread trend but man, is it good!

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 03/03/2021 15:20

Someone recommended Delia's boiled fruit cake on here, I made it and it is gorgeous

Actually, it wasn't Delia's, it was this one that I made because the poster didn't provide a link and I couldn't find the Delia one. Made this in my usual square Christmas cake tin, and reduced the amount of sugar.

@cherrytreecottage School sponge you say? Do you have a recipe? Our primary school dinner lady, made this killer shortbread stuff we used to have with pink custard, happy days, so school sponge sounds good!

AlexaShutUp · 03/03/2021 15:42

Thanks for all of the suggestions. Still weighing up options!

A Victoria sponge - perfect. Or a pile of cupcakes?

iloveredwine · 03/03/2021 15:51

Carrot cake

minipie · 03/03/2021 16:02

Apple upside down cake (with cinnamon)

missbridgerton · 03/03/2021 16:05

Magic custard cake.

It's a bit of a faff to make but my god it's amazing.

Another one asking for school sponge recipe please. I can also recommend the magic custard cake - it is incredible! And now I want a 3 layered Victoria sponge with buttercream and jam Grin

cannotfathom · 03/03/2021 18:47

That custard cake looks amazing ❤️

Tickledtrout · 03/03/2021 19:51

I’m tempted to say lemon but then Carrot cake with cream cheese icing is just so good!

Storingeggs · 03/03/2021 19:54

Sooty you don’t have carrots. Lemon drizzle it is. Matches the weather too!

Storingeggs · 03/03/2021 19:55

*Sorry

Beebumble2 · 03/03/2021 20:06

Mary Berry’s mini Lemon drizzles are great. Made all in one bowl. Made them this afternoon, trying not to eat them all.
