Is it from India? Looks like an animal draped with cloth and a seat on it.

@Milomonster I don't know actually. MIL did go to India a couple of years ago, it's possible she found a forgotten souvenir and decided it would make a good birthday present for me!

What did you think when she gave it to you? Do you like it?

Is there any sign of damage? I'm wondering if it's missing part from the top. It looks vaguely dragon like.

I thought she did but I'm not sure now! It's quite a nice thing I suppose but I don't know what it is, or does. And I don't like ornaments. So.

Yes, it looks like a piece of amethyst, and they have used what they had in the way of raw material and sculpted it accordingly so as not to waste any.

God yes the crystal vulvas! I'd forgotten those...

I think it might be looking back over its shoulder. (in the first photo you can see the head looking back towards the tail, but the other two photos show the back of it, so you can't see the head and it looks a bit odd)

They are meant to be lucky...there's a lot on the internet about where to put it in the house for the best sort of feng shui/luck if you like that sort of thing.
