Does anyone else do this or am I a big baby?

I am somewhere around 40 years old and still have my childhood teddy bears on my bed Grin. I just never got rid of them and they are still happy reminders of my (much) younger years.

I'm not sure they necessarily add up to my adult self, and they are swiftly hidden whenever DP and I are in the mood.

Do other people have theirs? I don't really, even when there isn't a pandemic, hang round my friends bedrooms anymore so no chance of sneaking a peek! BearBearBear

I still sleep with my Ted, I've had him since I was a baby.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 02/03/2021 04:29

I have a childhood bear in the loft as I feel I should keep him, but I wasn't even that bothered about him as a child. One of my DD loves a cuddly, one has never been bothered. I suspect there are two very distinct camps.

HeronLanyon · 02/03/2021 04:44

This is such a personal thing.
On death of my mum one of her trunks had lost of childhood things including my childhood teddy bear (and hers too). I couldn’t throw him although had ever been that into him as a child. He is now somewhere in a box (resting no doubt) until I do a less grief influenced sort out of lots of stuff.
If I were to see into adult friend’s bedroom and saw bed with stuffed animals etc I would be surprised - pretty sure any friend I know would not do this.
I can’t imagine doing this myself and personally would think it might be a sign in me of some kind of unhappiness/needing comfort. If I were in that situation then why not ?
I do not think this follows for everyone who does this. So for others I don’t think it means anything particular just know for me it would.
Think that’s the best way I can put it.

NoEffingWay · 02/03/2021 04:46

Would like to clarify we are talking about two small bears, not a menagerie of animals and not a 6ft panda bear (I wish Grin). I don't sit cuddling them either!

I still have a Bagpuss from my childhood. It lives on a bookcase. I wouldn't sleep with him in my bed, but I don't find it weird that another adult might do that.

MysweetAudrina · 02/03/2021 05:43

No, but I still suck my thumb to go to sleep.

eaglejulesk · 02/03/2021 06:09

I have some bears and a doll, including a bear my DF made for me when I was 3, and they live on a chest in my bedroom - and I'm 61.

TinySongstress · 02/03/2021 06:19

I wish I still had Teddy Apple. He was an orange bear with an apple on his bib. He disappeared somewhere over the years...
I'd definitely still have him with me.

What makes me sad is even at 40, all my childhood toys are still led in landfill somewhere Sad

BrownFootStool · 02/03/2021 06:29

I have some cuddly toys and was very upset when my mother got rid of my oldest childhood toy a couple of years ago (it was living at her house).

AmelieTaylor · 02/03/2021 06:53

Yes I do. My Ted no longer sleeps with me because she's delicate & I'm not but her an a couple of others sit on a chair in my room. They get lots of cuddles. My oldest friend still has a few in her bedroom too (her DH is lovely) my closest friend does not (her DH is a wanker). My other friends are a big mix of designer bedrooms (dated bears would not be permitted) right through to 'looks like an 8 year olds room'.

Mine just get advised to 'close their eyes!' 🤣

UseOfWeapons · 02/03/2021 07:09

My bunny which I have had since I was tiny, rests in a drawer, wrapped in a silk scarf. He is too delicate to be cuddled much, so doesn’t sleep with me now.
But I have my teddy, who sleeps on my tummy every night, only had him since I was 18, but I do like a snuggle at night.

SeeYouInAnotherLife · 02/03/2021 07:11

I kept my childhood soft toy for many years but it is no longer in a prominent place. I think it’s in DDs toy box now.

Mabelface · 02/03/2021 07:42

My Teddy bought just before I was born sits on my bedroom chair. He's 51 years old and is going nowhere.

KatyN · 02/03/2021 07:43

I still have teddy. He lives on a shelf unless I’m poorly when he comes down to join me in bed.

This is the sign at home that I am really poorly and need a lot of sympathy!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 02/03/2021 07:49

Ben the Bear and Doggie live in one of the drawers in my bedside cabinet.

PaperMonster · 02/03/2021 08:07

My daughter has the few teddies I have from my childhood, as well as my Nan’s teddy. The one I slept with is in the loft - it’s disintegrating. My OH bought me a little cuddly that I sleep with.

DinosaurDiana · 02/03/2021 08:09

Both my DD’s in their 20’s sleep with a Teddy still.
Mine is in the wardrobe, get him out for a big squeeze sometimes !

Booksandwine80 · 02/03/2021 08:16

I’m 40 and sleep with 2 cuddlies Blush

They smell nice and are a comfort.

Sleepingdogs12 · 02/03/2021 08:22

I have Panda still. I told my husband the other day to make sure he is cremated with me. It makes me sad to think he might be just left and thrown away . He is only in a drawer but he is very precious.

squashyhat · 02/03/2021 08:27

I have a knitted Piglet (as in Winnie the Pooh's friend) I bought when I was nine at a school fair. He lives under my pillow and comes out for hugs when I have had a bad day. I too have asked OH to make sure he's cremated with me as I don't want to be without him.

Happytentoes · 02/03/2021 08:37

I still have mine and also my great aunt’s . They sit on a wardrobe away from curious Labradors.
We cremated mum’s with her and wish we had done that with my Aunt’s. It is quite big, very well loved and must be about 95 - but it’s way too tatty to be collectible. I just felt bad about leaving it behind when she died.

AlwaysLatte · 02/03/2021 08:46

I have the teddy bear I had as a newborn. He sits on a chair in the bedroom, and I don't pay much attention to him except oddly I put him in the bed and cuddled him when I had a bereavement a few years ago.

PattyPan · 02/03/2021 08:53

I have mine, one in a drawer and one on the armchair in the study. I wouldn’t keep them on the bed unless I was cuddling them (which I sometimes do if DP is away!). My mum still has her teddy in a drawer too Smile

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 02/03/2021 08:54

I still have a Ted that was a present from a GM on my first birthday well over 60 years ago. For over 10 years he lived in a drawer because when she was a pup our old dog chewed literally half his face off.

Eventually he went off to Teddy Hospital, and came back as good as new, with a smart new ribbon round his neck, too.

Does anyone else do this or am I a big baby?
Milomonster · 02/03/2021 08:54

My dearest friend who is 47 always travels with her teddies and lays them on the bed when she arrives at her destination. I love it.
