daughter's names

I need some help deciding on my fourth's name. It's a girl and the name we really like is Jesse but her older sister is called June. Just wondering if you all think they're too similar as they start and end with the same letters. June has a twin sister Alfie and then they're older brother is Charlie just for reference. Thanks

It's fine! It's a great name.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 02/03/2021 02:00

Lovely name but Jesse is spelled the boy way, you want it to be Jessie

FortunesFave · 02/03/2021 02:36

I thought that JamesMiddleton! It's nicer as Jessie in my opinion OP.

But considering you called one of your daughters Alfie, maybe you don't care! Shock

wishing3 · 02/03/2021 02:37

Jessy and June sound great together!

Pemba · 02/03/2021 03:18

Jessie is the girls' name. Nice name, not too similar to June at all.

Do you really have a DD named Alfie, or is it a typo?

peak2021 · 02/03/2021 07:11

Jessie, not Jesse.

EvilOnion · 02/03/2021 07:24

Jessie is fine.

Anyone I know who was known as Jessie as a child has opted for Jess/Jessica as an adult as it sounds more grown up, I'm not sure if that would bother you?

Tangohead · 02/03/2021 07:42

You called your daughter Alfie????

Camomila · 02/03/2021 08:25

Alfie is probably a typo/boy

Jessie and June sound nice together. I'd put Jessica on the birth certificate though just in case she wants something more serious as an adult.

ramidad123 · 02/03/2021 09:22

Yes Alfie is short for Alfreda, a family name

Nope. As OP says, it's short for Alfreda...but they call her Alfie. Do you call her Alfreda or Alfie OP? Do people ever comment?
amusedbush · 02/03/2021 09:33

I’m a Jessica and I refuse to answer to Jessie - not a fan! Blush

TheCatWithTheFluffyTail · 02/03/2021 09:34

June and Jesse sound fine together but I would also vote to spell it Jessie.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 02/03/2021 09:39

It doesn’t really seem in keeping with the other names tbh.

June and Alfie are both unusual and are likely to be the only ones in their class/school. Jessica/Jessie will likely be one of many, if it’s still as popular as it has been for the last 20 years.

Is Charlie actually Charles? And would you call her Jessica?

And yes as others have said, Jesse is a boys name.

ramidad123 · 02/03/2021 10:00

@FortunesFave She's always just been an Alfie because that's what she prefers. Yes her full name is Alfreda, but she would introduce herself as Alfie.

@MarkRuffaloCrumble Hi yes we were worried about the popularity of Jesse or Jessie, and haven't been sure on spelling. This name has been the hardest to decide on. We were also thinking about Hayley and Olive which I know aren't similar to Jesse at all, just can't seem to settle on one. Also not a fan of Jessica

YogaLite · 02/03/2021 10:08

Jessie is cute for a little girl but a bit twee as an adult, I would go for Jessica and keep all options open.

Friend says name needs to sound ok when shouted on a hockey field as well as when used in a top profession, eg a surgeon or a judge.

YogaLite · 02/03/2021 10:12

I quite like the American double names, maybe something along those lines,
eg Jesselyn or Jocelyn.

honeylulu · 02/03/2021 10:25

What about Jessie short for Jessamine which is beautiful and more unusual than Jessica?

I'm really not a fan of diminutive names used as proper names. It always sounds like the parents couldn't be bothered to name their child properly.

Apropos of nothing in particular I had a great aunt called Alfreda and her mother was a Jessie! I also know an Althea who is Alfie for short and it really suits her.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 02/03/2021 10:59

I think Olive matches better with your other names tbh. More unusual and sounds lovely with June and Alfie.

SocraticJunkieWannabe · 02/03/2021 11:04

As others have said, Jesse is a boy's name, but I like Jessica, Jessie or Jess, and any of these go find with your other names.

LadyofMisrule · 02/03/2021 11:32

We made sure our children all had different initials so that when a letter turned up to Ms X Misrule, we wouldn't wonder if it was for Xena or Xanthe.*

*We don't actually have a Xena or a Xanthe

ramidad123 · 02/03/2021 11:45

@LadyofMisrule yes that is also something we have been thinking about as we did originally want all our children to have different initials. might be concerned about nothing, but I wouldn't want June to feel like she's not as individual as her siblings if she has to share initials with her little sister. Being a twin as well aha

Call her Jessie. A nice, usable name. Anything else is attention seeking.
