Anybody else feel awful around ovulation?

exhausted, achey, headachey, completely confused and clumsy. Getting worse the older I get. I'm losing at least a day a month unable to function properly. Why does this happen! Just wondering if it's common and if there is anything I can do bar the pill? Which is all the doctor ever recommends.

Following as I feel exactly the same and don't want the pill! It got worse since I started approaching my forties

Littlepoppet1 · 28/02/2021 06:55

Yes I do. I always feel bloated and nauseous! It's very annoying!

Yes, I do too! Always get really bad pains, worse than typical period cramps sometimes 😩

QuickShadow · 28/02/2021 07:03

I'm early 40s too - it's really ramping up! I wish there was something magical to take that would make it better. I'm currently spending a lot of the month feeling rough: at ovulation and then usually before and after my period too. Hormonal hell!

I feel dreadful around ovulation . Can feel really depressed . Worse than PMS . I’m 46 and peri

Meredithgrey1 · 28/02/2021 07:19

I do as well. I feel almost a bit flu-ey (achey, tired, nauseated, headache). I’m 29 and it’s definitely got much worse since my periods came back after DD was born.

GnomeOrMistAndIceGuy · 28/02/2021 07:23

Yes! I got horrible pains in my middle and leg. I get shivery and nauseous, and my mood is 'black' as in rock bottom dismal and depressed. It's really shit, I've had to explain it to my partner. It's just that one day but it's like clockwork.

QuickShadow · 28/02/2021 07:24

Yes to fluey. I often feel like I have a horrendous hangover.

I feel frustrated that whenever I bring this up with the GP it's just 'one of this rubbish things' and there's never any solution/suggestion as to how to manage. Maybe I'm being unfair and it really is just one of those things. Bet if it flattened men out for most of the month there'd be more research going on though!

Yes me too. I went to the doctors after it lasted 4 days one month and tbf she sent me for scans etc but they couldn’t find anything. She said it tends to increase in severity in your 30s and 40s.
I was offered the pill as the ‘magic’ solution but it makes me feel shit. She also suggested buscopan or a similar IBS cramp type medicine to help manage the symptoms.
I find the best combo for me is buscopan the day before and during and then the ibuprofen with lysine on the actual day

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 28/02/2021 07:25

Yes , only the past year or so. I'm 45 . Shivery , blinding headache , and really nauseous.

niceupthedance · 28/02/2021 07:27

Yes feel like I'm getting a cold and also massive RAGE

I'm 47

juliainthedeepwater · 28/02/2021 07:29

Really reassuring to read this thread as I REALLY noticed this for the first time in my last cycle around ovulation. I felt sick, fatigued and dizzy in a very similar way to early pregnancy, plus cramps, ugh. It was my first cycle post-birth of my second baby 7 months ago so I'm really hoping it was just a blip - but reading this, maybe not! I've just bought a book a women's health doctor recommended me ages ago called The Period Repair Manual in the slightly desperate hope it has some tips!!

FoxBaseBeta · 28/02/2021 07:32

Yes, I get horrendous pain and bloating, it completely wipes me out. It's really ramped up in my 40s, I was using ovulation sticks struggling to conceive DC2 in my 30s but Christ I'd have no need now Hmm

Saltycinnamon · 28/02/2021 07:35

I take vitamin B6 now as I felt similar. Especially very low mood & hangover-like! Better this month but it might just be coincidence.

cirrusminor · 28/02/2021 07:39

I'm mid 20s, no kids and I get it too! The pain is awful, often lasts a while day and makes walking painful, I get migraines and worst of all just after after I ovulate I get terribly depressed for 2-3 days and then suddenly snap out of it and go back to feeling totally normal. That whole week is far far worse than my period.

MiloAndEddie · 28/02/2021 07:54

@Saltycinnamon what is B6 supposed to do?

(Genuine question, not being a dick I promise!)

Wowcherarestalkingme · 28/02/2021 07:54

I get this. So much since I had my second DS. I’ve always struggled with PMS and now I struggle around ovulation as well. It’s like every two weeks I have to feel bloated, crappy, lethargic and crabby. I’m 38

anxiouswaiting · 28/02/2021 07:55

Yes! I'm early thirties and noticed it getting slowly worse since having my 2 year old.
Strangely I don't really get PMS any more, but a day or 2 after my period finishes I get increasingly bloated, aches, headache, heartburn, leg/abdo/back pain and a massive dip in my mood and terrible anxiety. I'm in that phase at the moment and the last few days I struggle to get out of bed.
I did a bit of research and believe I get post menstrual syndrome.

QuickShadow · 28/02/2021 08:02

I agree mine has also got worse since having kids.

Thanks all, it is reassuring to hear other stories. Because although it happens every month it can be scary to feel so rough with no clearly identifiable reason.

Yesterday I got rid of the headache so didn't need painkillers all day but I felt so rough I couldn't do anything but go to bed in the afternoon.

@MiloAndEddie it’s supposed to support hormonal regulation. I’m not hugely into supplements but I felt so rubbish I thought I’d give it a go. My skin is awful too at the moment so I thought it might all be linked.

idontfeelwelltoday · 28/02/2021 08:09

Yes to worsening after having my DS.
DH is also covid-paranoid so our breakfast is followed by vitamins and supplements of any possible kind, I daren't imagine what would be without

I imagine there is a better source than a shop selling the stuff but this is the gist.

zzizzer · 28/02/2021 08:10

No illness or pain but I always get massively grumpy. I only noticed it when we started TTC and I and realised the one day that I should be super-interested in sex is the one day I can't stand to be touched and am least in the mood. Which was super-helpful.

MrsPerfect12 · 28/02/2021 08:11

I am horrendous with this, I get the absolute rage too.
Magnesium and agnus castus can help.
I was offered the pill or fluoxetine by the doctor.
I went with the fluoxetine and take it from day 14 until period starts. It works brilliantly. I've stopped it several time but the rage comes back. I'll stick with it for now! Really looking forward to menopause 🙄......

Look on FB for a page called PMDD support which will give you lots of ideas to find something that works for you. It can be a bit or trial and error.
