These are the most horrendous Adverts I have ever seen. They actually make me feel ill. Certainly would not even consider that perfume. Awful advert. The people who thought of that need sacking.

OP posts:

There has definitely been a thread on this before

HollowTalk · 27/02/2021 22:38

Really awful ad that looks like it's aimed at 12 year old girls.

Akire · 27/02/2021 22:39

But people don’t remember it thinking oh must have a sniff next time I’m out in boots, they think what a load crap I’m never going be seen dead with it.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 27/02/2021 22:39
@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe you moved your home insurance because you liked an ad? Jesus Christ that’s odd.
I did. I waited until it was due for renewal though, it wasn't a knee-jerk thing and I'm not entirely illogical.

Honeyroar · 27/02/2021 22:40

@Shufflebudge

Yes so annoying. Daisy daisy daisy daisy. When it's on, we pretend to be in the cult and say daisy loads of time after the ad has finished

Exactly. Job done. You remember the perfume. That’s ALL an ad aims for.

But do people actually buy perfume because of an advert? I don’t think so personally, and I sold duty free for 20+ years. People might say “have you got that new perfume by X?” but when you got the samples out they might say “urgh” and end up buying something else.
PenOrPencil · 27/02/2021 22:44

@Kpo58

Children doing GCSEs could easily have done a better advert.
This is exactly what it’s like, and I would tell the GCSE students to go away and come back with a better idea!
Akire · 27/02/2021 22:45

Least if we aspire to running around in our underwear and jumping off bridges into the arms of some hunky bloke... it’s aspiring! Holding a Daisy not so much.

AnyFucker · 27/02/2021 22:57

Kaia Gerber, Cindy Crawford’s daughter is in it, I believe

Do people buy stuff because of adverts. Come on? Yes. That’s why billions are spent on advertising.

Of course you won’t buy a perfume if you don’t like the smell. But say you’re in the market for a new perfume tomorrow. What’s the first one you’re going to think of......

Shufflebudge · 27/02/2021 23:12

And you’re the one arguing advertising doesn’t work. When you swapped insurance solely because you like a cartoon meerkat....

fatblackcatspaw · 27/02/2021 23:15

i think the problem is that every model looks dead behind the eyes.... god knows if they are on drugs or have been sexually assulted in the business but they are all looking entirely miserable and none have enough acting abilty to cover it up.

If I was in the market for a new perfume I’d go and sniff a few until I found one I liked. The advert wouldn’t affect me. As I said, most of my customers did the same. Adverts like this are part of the reason why some of the “posher” perfume companies won’t sell duty free anymore in case they get displayed next to/associated with the cheap and nasty perfumes.
Alexandernevermind · 28/02/2021 00:12

I keep hoping for expecting one of them to be carried into a wicker man.

Ocsetldil · 28/02/2021 00:17

The other perfume advert I remember is for Chanel with Keira Knightley’s bum disappearing into the distance on a motorbike.

Well it does or it doesn't. It was more a dislike of my existing provider's marketing ploys that coincided with a campaign and policy that I liked better, albeit it at a slight premium. Does that explain it more clearly?
NuniaBeeswax · 28/02/2021 00:37

Has there ever been a perfume advert that ISN'T a total cringe fest?

Marzipanfruit · 28/02/2021 00:39

Love the 'Dream Baby Dream' music though. Maybe an odd choice of band for the target audience.......

It may have got into my brain, but it has the opposite effect. Even if it smelled like unicorns breath, I wouldn't buy it.
CattyCactus · 28/02/2021 01:19

@EmpressWitchDoesntBurn

At least it’s a better name than ‘Good Girl’. Hmm
I detest that and the god awful bottle shape.
JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 28/02/2021 01:55

Advert is shite.

The perfume smells amazing though.

I think Lee Mack sums up the problem with perfume ads really well

thecatfromjapan · 28/02/2021 04:10

MarzipanFruit The choice of Suicide for the music made me feel old.
I thought at first it must have a real retro feel for youngsters (like a Buzby Berkeley dance number) but I think it was used in HyperNormalization. So maybe it signals some kind of anti-bro-liberalism politics to young people?

thecatfromjapan · 28/02/2021 04:10

Anti-Neo-liberalism.
Mind you, anti-bro-liberalism probably works, too.

BitOfFun · 28/02/2021 05:20

I hate it, but not as much as the one where Natalie Portman (?) snarls at the camera, asking if you'd scream on public transport for love.

DavidsSchitt · 28/02/2021 06:30

"But do people actually buy perfume because of an advert? I don’t think so personally, and I sold duty free for 20+ years"

Just because you did a job for 20 years doesn't mean you were good at it. Clearly people buy things because of adverts, I'm surprised you don't know that.

Onlinedilema · 28/02/2021 07:57

I can't stand the Vinnie Jones one either. Who the hell thinks Brut is a lovely aftershave, seriously? It's up there with that vomit inducing Old Spice. Now that did make you want to gip it smelt so foul.
