I have just mown the lawn.....and it's still February

Anyone else had long grass this year? We had many mild days much later into the autumn and apart from when it dipped below 7 degrees C it seems to have continued to grow almost to the point it will get too long if I leave any longer. I mowed it with the box off which is what I normally do first time, but never had to do it before the last week of March. I suppose it is not as if I had anything else to do...
We are in the midlands and get the usual mix of weather.

I've also mown my lawn. It needed it, 2 days of sunshine had dried it off enough...and I get cat's pooing on it when it gets to a certain length. And that's vile. I'm in Somerset.

mumwon · 27/02/2021 18:01

we have sat outside eating out lunch twice this week (I did wear a jumper but hey!)

kowari · 27/02/2021 18:02

I did mine today, on the longest setting so it was mostly last year's leaves, but it looks much better. Washing went out on the line too!

Borogroves · 27/02/2021 18:03

Yes I was looking at the lawns today thinking they needed mowing. I've never mowed a lawn in February before and it feels like we've had a cold winter.

BrilliantBetty · 27/02/2021 18:06

I almost did it today. In the end I couldn't quite muster up the energy (large garden and the petrol mower is a faff and a half). But will probably do it tomorrow since it really is getting long. Seems weird for Feb.

MegCleary · 27/02/2021 18:08

We had a butterfly in the garden today!

Catlitter1 · 27/02/2021 18:09

I’m in the north east of Scotland and was just thinking the grass needs cut. The ‘man’ said no. Apparently mid march is more appropriate, however I’m going to get the mower out tomorrow now I know I’m not insane for thinking it needs it. Thank you Smile

dementedma · 27/02/2021 18:12

No chance. Its so wet and muddy. I have however, started weeding and clearing the big bed of last year's old growth. Lovely to see the crocuses and green shoots coming up.

NoMackerelInSwindon · 27/02/2021 18:19

At least I am not made then. Talking of madness, I watched two hares racing around the garden in the week. Then a third one came into view from the field. The first two stopped then he hopped onto her back. Then the third hopped on when the second had finished. Nothing to do with mowing the grass but my jaw was on the floor.

I did ours yesterday, have had washing out on the line all week too.

TheDoctorDances · 27/02/2021 18:28

It’s felt like like early June rather than February today here in the Midlands. I mowed the lawn and found a ladybird on one of my daffodils.

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 27/02/2021 18:30

Feels fucking great doesnt it. That sun, that warmth, ahhhhhh

niceupthedance · 27/02/2021 18:36

Ours got mowed this week too. It's been long all winter 🤷‍♀️

AOwlAOwlAOwl · 27/02/2021 19:12

Ours definitely needs doing but we can't mow it until the first garden waste collection as the bin is full from November! Winter has been very short this year.

BettaSplenden · 27/02/2021 19:17

I'm jealous. Mine is so scruffy but the grass was too wet today. Hoping it might be better tomorrow and I can tidy it up

madroid · 27/02/2021 19:49

Well all I can say is I hope you don't regret it with the frosty nights. Shakes head...

Howshouldibehave · 27/02/2021 19:52

Ours was done this week as well! I don’t ever remember the first mow being in February before!

Springersrock · 27/02/2021 19:53

It’s been lush here

My horses have been out naked this afternoon. Obviously I massively regret that now as they’d rolled in the deep, puddley mud in the gateway and were completely plastered in it when I bought them in, but it was lovely so see them out enjoying the sun on their backs.

Their field is looking decidedly green the last few days

vodkaredbullgirl · 27/02/2021 19:55

I'm going to do mine tomorrow, it got that long. Need to go on a poo hunt 1st (2 dogs).

Everydaydragon · 27/02/2021 20:47

I did mine today, felt top early and I think I cut it a touch too short but it did look so much better

StillMedusa · 27/02/2021 21:21

Dh did ours yesterday.. and poked it and chucked a load of grass seed down in hope that we can regrow some of the dog pee patches...she only wees there last thing at night so will walk her out for her night wee for a few weeks.
Got some bedding plants in today and it felt like spring is really here!

NoMackerelInSwindon · 27/02/2021 21:25

Might be a bit early for bedding plants....

Where does everybody live? This little island is very wet and sheltered under the gulf stream, but this must be climate change driving this I think?

I wore a t-shirt on a walk today, had to take hoody off, too warm. I have a pink nose. Lovely out there today. Blossom's coming out too.

SnowdaySewday · 27/02/2021 21:31

Cut mine today. There were daisies growing in it.
