What would you treat yourself to regularly?

I'm not talking about the super rich, winning the lottery etc. Just being in a situation where you were very comfortable and didn't have to worry about money.

I'd :

  • have Sunday dinner out every week
  • purchase nice skincare that you'd get in spas. I used to work in a spa and had loads of freebies and miss it loads.
  • pedicures
  • Naice candles
  • a cleaner to do the jobs I hate doing ..skirting boards, wiping down doors.

One can dream Grin

I guess we could afford a cleaner but I am not that comfortable with "having staff". I would get one when I am older.
DH hates paying anyone to do anything he thinks we could so he would think most of these things are wasting money.
If I had more money I would get more done to the house sooner, but mostly save for a rainy day.

bakereld · 24/02/2021 12:42

I started a new job last September which gave me a good payrise combined with WFH commute savings, and have been able to really feel comfortable whilst saving a good amount. Some things I've done to treat myself are:

I've started buying nicer quality clothes and shoes which has honestly given me so much more confidence.
Started buying better quality meat from the butchers.
Spending on a hobby I've always wanted to do, but didn't justify the cost previously (cosplay)
Spending more on beauty and hair products etc
Will be going on much nicer holidays when possible

groundcontroltomontydon · 24/02/2021 12:42

A home (and all the freedoms that come with it like choosing the colour of the front door, having a pet, being able to hang a picture, having nice surroundings of my choice rather than the cheapest of everything and other people's old crap), good dentistry, professional hair colour, M&S prepared fruit and salads, new running shoes

DimOndCadwAnadlu · 24/02/2021 12:48

Regular hair cuts
A family holiday once a year
A takeaway once a month

RagzReturnsRebooted · 24/02/2021 12:50

@Reinventinganna

I probably could afford a cleaner but I’m really embarrassed of the mess Grin Blush
Ditto, so I pay my DCs to do the jobs I don't want to.

I'd eat out more and pay for the DCs to do more clubs etc.

ShopTattsyrup · 24/02/2021 12:50
  • Buying a freezer (and having a kitchen big enough to fit it in) - having an actual tub of ice cream in my house, and being able to freeze more than one bag of peas at a time feels like pure luxury right now!
  • Massage/facial more often than as a yearly birthday treat as a present.
  • Getting my nails done (even just to file them ... I have a physical inability to get them an even shape and length!)
  • Regular hot yoga sessions that I used to do when I got a massive student discount
actiongirl1978 · 24/02/2021 12:54

Ooh yes a dermatologist. Nails done too.

I'd spend money on me that I find I'm guilty about taking out of the monthly budget.

I'd sort out my terrible gait with regular physio appointments. More running shoes.

A gardener definitely. Not a cleaner though, had that once and hated it, I'd rather live in a slightly mucky house!

A twice weekly personal training session.

A second home for holidays.

BurningBright · 24/02/2021 12:56

Cleaner
Gardener
Monthly facial and massage
Two-week holiday instead of just the one week. Possibly even abroad...
Another dog

Fuckadoodledoooo · 24/02/2021 12:57

Haircuts and professional hair dye.

I can only afford a cut once every couple of years and I've never been able to afford anything other than home dye.

Fuckadoodledoooo · 24/02/2021 12:57

Oh and holiday! Only one in the last 11 years.

EmmaJR1 · 24/02/2021 12:58

Fresh flowers all the time
Frequent beauty treatments
Cleaner
Decorators in
Nanny

If I had more cash I'd get a chef!

Tallbird1974 · 24/02/2021 12:59

I would get a dog Walker everyday and a cleaner.

wendz86 · 24/02/2021 12:59

Massage once a month.
Go blonde again, somehow I could afford to have my hair highlighted as a student but can't now.
Nails done every 3 weeks.
At least 1 abroad holiday a year.

scubadub · 24/02/2021 12:59

People who can afford this are often too careful with money to spend it like this
That’s how they got all the money in the first place

Precisely! You could give some ppl an extra 1 or 2k a month and they would still justify spending it all and end up broke like they were without it. This is exactly what is wrong with society to be honest! I'm not saying we should save every penny but there's a balance to be had!!

User1511 · 24/02/2021 13:01

Interestingly I am actually in the position you describe. However I don’t do any of the things everyone is posting about! Am I missing out?!

I quite like cleaning. DH does the gardening. If I do anything to my nails it destroys them so I leave them plain. Only own pedis.

I do enjoy a facial though. Maybe once covid has disappeared, I’ll have those regularly.

Zara9897 · 24/02/2021 13:07

A housekeeper. Someone to help around the house every day. So I work and spend quality time with DS. No cleaning, no cooking no laundry

B127 · 24/02/2021 13:13

Fresh flowers
A personal trainer
Dental implant

SapatSea · 24/02/2021 13:14

A decent car.
The odd impulse purchase such as plants/flowers/nice chcolates
It would be lovely not to deliberate over every penny
Not have to constantly meal plan, consider every purchase, look out to switch suppliers/ insurance every year to save a little bit - all the mental load that is almost a job in itself.
Get my tiny garden sorted out professionally

PitchImperfect · 24/02/2021 13:20

A therapist
Gym classes
A part time nanny to enable me to actually use the above.
A tutor for the DC so I don't have to do all the home-ed.

weegiemum · 24/02/2021 13:23

More holidays.

PattyPan · 24/02/2021 13:39

I’m probably in this position but I don’t do any of this stuff because I feel obliged to save it. If I were made better off due to a pay rise, I’d rather work less and get the same pay I do now but have more time to myself.
Maybe I might have more weekends away but I’d have to pair that with getting a cleaner so I didn’t fall behind. At the moment (small house, no DC) a cleaner feels like a ridiculous extravagance so I don’t have one.

Gottalovesummer · 24/02/2021 13:45

Give up my full time job and volunteer full time in a cat charity.

Anniecott · 24/02/2021 13:51

As a hairdresser I would love to be able to afford to book an appointment at a salon to get my hair done and be treated to the whole service, rather than be a member of staff squeezed in, I do appreciate I'm lucky to get my hair done cheap but I would like the extra bits.
I'd also have my nails done regularly rather than doing them myself.
I'd get a gardener, so as I can actually enjoy my garden in my spare time.

MistakenAgain · 24/02/2021 13:54

Don't know but I just googled Naice candles Blush

NotYourReindeer · 24/02/2021 14:01

This is me to a T!

I am better with less because the more I have the more I spend.

Currently on Universal Credit having lost my job and have been signed off sick due to mental health. I have more spending money now than when I was working F/T because I would pay for afterschool clubs that the kids didn't want to go to but I thought were important, constantly paying out for extras. Id have my hair and nails done, nicer clothes, lots of nights and meals out. Basically it all got spent.

Covid, job loss and sickness have meant I have vastly reassessed priorities and actually there is a little left over for a takeaway or a nice bottle of wine.

I'm in a slightly different position to most on UC though, as have decent child maintenance payments from ex so that does help. Without them I'd be at a food bank on UC alone.
