Sorry to hear this @DWPmisery1972

I don’t know if this it makes it any better but my job is in the legal system and the courts are hugely delayed and backlogged - they were pre covid and now even worse. Totally crap for people such as yourself though :(

Taswama · 23/02/2021 14:36

So sorry to hear that @DWPmisery1972 . Doubly frustrating for you only to find out today. Flowers

MercyBooth · 23/02/2021 14:52

@DWPmisery1972 Thats really shit. Im so sorry.

bakingcupcakes · 23/02/2021 15:10

@DWPmisery1972 That's really shit. Especially after you get yourself in the frame of mind to do it. Flowers

DWPmisery1972 · 23/02/2021 16:03

Thank you everyone, I’ve been hiding in the duvet and eating toast Brew

ISaySteadyOn · 23/02/2021 16:24

Sounds like a reasonable thing to do. Here is a Brew to go with it. Don't spill it on your duvet Wink. I have been known to do that.

Aw, sorry DWP, that's awful when you've got psyched up for something like that & it gets cancelled.

Re old fashioned handkerchiefs (is it "chiefs" or "chieves"?)
The correct use for a hanky (cloth or paper) for any of us over a certain age is for a mother to remove a crumpled one (possibly with a lipstick mark on it) from her pocket or handbag, grab child (her own, ideally, but any passing one will do), spit on hanky & rub it over child's face to remove lunch/dirt, preferably whilst tutting & muttering about how child will bring shame to the family, & she didn't bring you up like a savage!

Evenstar · 23/02/2021 17:25

Sorry 💐 @DWPmisery1972, awful to brace yourself for it and then have it put off

I remember my dad doing that to me when I was about 10 Grin A couple of years after he died, when the gravestone was quite new, my DB was aghast that the birds had had the audacity to shit on dad's grave, so while me and mum went off to fetch water for the flowers, DB decided to clean the grave with his own personal touch of spit and polish Grin
TheOrchidKiller · 23/02/2021 18:57

It's funny how people have double-standards Bogroll Grin
I caught both MIL & DM on separate occasions looking horrified at the mucky faces of their small grandchildren, which they then proceded to wipe clean with the dishcloth they'd just wiped the worktops with. It was my turn to be horrified "Don't do that to my baby's face with that manky rag!"

I wonder if my immune system is good because of a childhood of saliva-washes & cuddling cats?

ISaySteadyOn · 23/02/2021 19:05

Aren't there actual studies that say growing up with pets improves the immune system?

OP posts:
110APiccadilly · 23/02/2021 19:11

My mother used to say, "You've got to eat a peck of dirt before you die," so I assume my immune system is excellent!!

I think there's studies that growing up in a very clean environment increase the chance of allergies? In which case, DD should be fine...

ISaySteadyOn · 23/02/2021 19:13

Yes, there are.

SirSamuelVimes · 23/02/2021 19:27

Yep, dirt and pets make for healthy children. Farmers' children tens to be healthy and hearty for a reason!

TheOrchidKiller · 23/02/2021 20:29

There you go, then -spit-&-scrub cleaning techniques, some furtive nose-picking & scab eating (in childhood, NOT NOW!), & owning a toilet brush has made me invincible!

SirSamuelVimes · 23/02/2021 20:53

Ooh that's interesting, @MercyBooth.

MercyBooth · 23/02/2021 21:13

i nearly slipped over in Tesco, Someone had spilled some cream or milk or something and i slid on my left heel. I just didnt see it. Was pushing a trolley and the mask was riding up into my eyes (i try to wear one where possible despite having a lanyard) But i am fast reaching the conclusion that its too bloody dangerous. Maybe i will make an FOI request to the NHS asking how many mask related accidents the public have been involved in.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 23/02/2021 21:28

I got a letter today from the covid response team. When I saw who it was from I presumed it was about my vaccination, nope - it was to tell me that I am classed as high risk and should begin shielding. Excuse my language but fuck that! No way am I going to start doing that this late into the pandemic when I have already had the first jab! I don't mean to be rude to anyone who has had to shield but I don't feel that at risk. Glad you didn't fall MercyBooth

thefallthroughtheair · 23/02/2021 21:33

What a relief that there is still some semblance of a justice system on this. Many (especially over there) probably think that someone who uses their right to silence - or any other - is guilty; but they would do well to think of what can happen when there are no such rights. Yes, that means that some people 'get away with' stuff, but a country where the arms of the state think it appropriate to try to hand a fixed penalty notice to 2 people walking and drinking coffee is not somewhere we should crave to be. I know it's becoming a cliche but I don't care: Niemoller's First they Came poem says it all for me. We ignore justice and human rights at our peril.
Sorry. A bit depressing. Feeling a bit 'wtf' generally about people's determination to stay in lockdown.
Maybe I need to get some choccie and drink some wine Wine

Excellent news.

Reading @DWPmisery1972 bad news today, sorry honey. The courts are in such a mess, how they expect to get through all these fines when people refuse to pay because of one daft officious person. A friend of OH retired police inspector works for a group of solicitors as a consultant, his remit is to take apart bad police evidence and give it to solicitors to present preferably before court but certainly in court. He is so scathing of todays recruits because their knowledge of the law is so scant. They are bluffing at times.

wanderings · 24/02/2021 06:58

@MercyBooth Go for it. The mandatory face nappies may well cause more problems than they solve; as always, the government is trying to hush such things up. We shall see what secondary school classrooms a like: I wonder if the pupils will be allowed to remove their muzzles to speak?

The government might be hoping to end all the restrictions on 21st June, but it won't be over for them: the public red mist is bound to descend soon before or after then, and that's when the legal challenges against the government will begin, and possibly the riots, when people realise that the government has well and truly screwed them, while pretending to do what's best.

People seem to have no imagination. "It's ok, it's because of the deadly virus." Do they not see the precedent that's being set? Times of crisis are when we should be most careful about our liberty.
TooManyPlatesInMotion · 24/02/2021 08:28

Another one very concerned about civil liberties here. I am with Lord Sumption on this one.
