Friend who deals with the government, police was on a zoom call. There's a bit of a row going on about heavy handed councils, police forces the ensuing bad publicity is now going against them, no clapping matter. They've been told to rein it in. So you may find a lighter hand.

In other news, hospitality and the government are looking at resurrecting eat out to help out. Hospitality found it onerous the first time round, money taking weeks, months to retrieve, they want 5% VAT which they can pass onto customers at the till 7 days a week

Curlygirl06 · 03/03/2021 19:31
@Curlygirl06 that's exactly how I was. Had mine on Friday so was off anyway next day but don't think I'd have felt up to going to work. Slept fine next night and ok ever since. Possibly a bit more tired than usual and arm a bit sore.
Yes I'm going to bed early with some paracetamol, hopefully back at work tomorrow.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/03/2021 19:38

But, but we managed to undo about 5,000 covid deaths last year when the rules were tweaked to 28 days after a positive Covid test rather than all post-Covid deaths, so resurrection of sadly Covid deaths is clearly possible Wink

Lord have mercy justasking111 it can't be much fun in the land of the valleys at the moment, it does seem to be a load of doom mongering coming from your homeland at the moment. What I don't understand is surely even these doctors and professors must actually know and miss people from outside of their bubble - don't they want lockdowns to end so we can see people once again? I always thought I was an introvert but I think that was mistaken as I feel much better when I have seen other people. I do hope you feel better soon Curlygirl06

Flowers @Lostinacloud . That does sound OTT. Mandating wearing masks outdoors is ultimate in performance protection (or anxiety in individuals)

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 03/03/2021 20:22

I don't understand why a third wave would be inevitable given the vaccination. Surely even if transmission rises serious illness/hospital admissions should be at a steady, manageable rate?

110APiccadilly · 03/03/2021 20:34

@ISaySteadyOn and @starfish88
I think the important thing we need to establish is whether one can be Sadly Un-dead.

Buzzinwithbez · 03/03/2021 22:37

Passed to report that my son's eminently sensible college has sent out an email saying that classrooms have been arranged so that masks won't be necessary.

That's brilliant, good on them.
justasking111 · 03/03/2021 23:10

The doctor in the BBC report was on TV tonight, he clarified saying the Risk of a third wave was in under sixties and fifties who wouldn't be vaccinated in time for the ending of lockdown so expect those age groups to be in hospital beds this summer

Any other fans of Dave Allen on this thread? BBC2 are having a Dave Allen night on Saturday to mark the 50th anniversary of Dave Allen At Large.

Feeling really down and impotent today.

It looks like vaccine passports, which are really just a way of controlling populations further, are a done deal.

I still don’t understand why we need further control. We are already digitally traceable through online activities and the last year has demonstrated how easy it is to mass manipulate. It feels like there is no point fighting for even basic freedom anymore. We are in a totalitarian nightmare where free choice is an illusion. Feeling very sad for the kids though society probably won’t fight back for a generation or two.

wanderings · 04/03/2021 07:57

@Worldgonecrazy I know. It's just awful. I'm sure one reason the government have gone for the extremely slow release is so that we'll be so grateful to regain what should never have been taken away, that we won't dare upset Saint Boris and Head Boy Matt Wanksock, in case they throw their toys out of the pram and snatch everything away again. By the time a general election comes round, which is the ideal time to make noise about this, the "new normal" (vomit) will be so bedded in, people won't want to fight it.

Thank you. Much better sleep last night, feel more myself today so I'm going to work today.

I don't know how to fight back. I'd write to my MP but she's of the weld people in their own houses persuasion.

The best I can do is smile at people.

Worldgonecrazy · 04/03/2021 08:40

@ISaySteadyOn

I agree there is little point writing to any mp. They are all in cushy jobs and will have a cushy job lined up either way. Letters are easy to ignore and we have probably all seen the cut and paste responses.

There is no one to vote for in a general election. I will let them know why I’m not voting on the off chance there is a scrap of decency out in the political world,

"There is no one to vote for in a general election. I will let them know why I’m not voting on the off chance there is a scrap of decency out in the political world,"

I think I've mentioned this before - we have a Welsh election coming up in which Neil Hamilton and co are starting to look like the only viable anti lockdown option. Isn't politics terrific?

Worldgonecrazy · 04/03/2021 09:38

I vowed I would always vote, encaustic of what women before me went through to obtain that right for me. I never thought we would reach a point where politics was so full of self entitled, out of touch smug arsewipes that there would literally be no one worthy of my vote.

How strange! We weren't in hospital beds last summer. What would be different about this year when there's more immunity...
