Here it is

I went to M&S this morning and bought several tops in the sale very cheap e.g. £2...got home and realised why, all clung in the wrong places and the small prints looked frumpy. Need to take them all back now. A trip out I suppose!

It seemed busy in town and people were buying little bottles of prosecco and things to have in the park I guess. The sun makes a difference doesn't it?

DWPmisery1972 · 27/02/2021 20:30

Kids are at their dads so OH and I are watching trash tv and getting food in and plan to ‘flock’ loudly into the early hours... sorry for the tmi ADs Blush

I need to stop myself reading the gloom Over There... they try so hard to bring shit down. Reading your stories of the day has cheered me up everyone!

@ISaySteadyOn how are you doing this evening? Hope you’re ok Smile

ISaySteadyOn · 27/02/2021 20:36

I'm ok. Here's a weird thing though. I had run out of Vitamin D tablets yesterday and didn't have any this morning and early afternoon. I went out and got some and my mood improved immensely. I still feel sad but not like I felt when I posted earlier.

Even managed to cook a decent supper and put together a D and D adventure.

I've seen lots of flocking, especially in parks: securely locked up sports courts broken into by teenagers. And good for them, who are not standing under Saint Boris's extremely slow and constipated shit which he is dumping on his citizens. (Sorry for this icky metaphor, but I think he and his merry men deserve this description.)

But I went to one park in a much more deprived area, on sunny Friday morning: normally thronging with people, the park and whole area were eerily quiet, like a ghost town.

Stratfordplace · 27/02/2021 20:45

I have just seen that Piers Corbin has been arrested yet again. It never used to be a crime to protest. I just feel sad that he keeps being handcuffed and arrested for his views.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 27/02/2021 20:57

I am jealous DWPMisery1972! At least someone is getting some action...I am currently happy being single but one day I would like to meet a man and flock away again! Glad you are feeling better ISaySteadyOn. Me and my mum took my girls to the park today and whilst it wasn't crowded it was nice to see so many children playing, just like they should be.

TrustTheGeneGenie · 27/02/2021 21:20

Decided to throw ds two possibly three (identical) parties this year. Rule of 6 outside will have come in so party 1 will consist of ds, dp, me, friends and their baby. Party 2 shall be us three and my mum dad and brother. Party 3 shall be dps parents if they can be arsed coming (we'll see!)

I'm going totally ott. He didn't get a party last year but we did have an afternoon tea sat out in the sunshine so fingers crossed the weather holds up again. I shall buy a gazebo and extra blankets just in case!

110APiccadilly · 27/02/2021 21:37

Piers Corbyn is nuts. But that should never be an arrestable offence.

110APiccadilly · 27/02/2021 21:41

"I like to see a bit of flocking, myself."

Your wish is my command...

Grin DH and I always thought that flocking and flouting sounded like something you put on the hem of a Victorian dress.

My happy news is that I haven't heard from my mother since the "obnoxiously rude and unkind" letter and I am getting more relaxed and happier, the longer I don't have to worry about her drunken, aggressive communication

smallandimperfectlyformed · 27/02/2021 22:21

Ah I am glad that your mum hasn't bothered you anymore Weedsnseeds1 tbh I don't remember your letter but just what you have written here sounds horrible. There's way too much pressure (away from Mumsnet which can make me quite shocked at how quickly people can go no contact with their family!) on people to keep up relationships with toxic family members. Your mum is supposed to be your biggest support, not someone who deliberately upsets you.

Weedsnseeds1 · 27/02/2021 22:56

smallandimperfectlyformed
Thank you.
My mother is an alcoholic. I lost my rag on the AD thread a while ago as I spent 9 hours trying to phone her and got "the person you are calling is on the phone".
My car was in the garage, but I borrowed a car, drove to check she was OK and got a huge drunken tantrum. Then follow up letter.
I still wake up thinking of things I should point out to her, but have resisted the urge so far.
She physically
(punching, kicking, slapping, stabbing with cutlery) and verbally abused me and my twin sister.
Maybe I should write back and point that out?
Big to be honest, I'm relieved not to hear from her for the tins being

Weedsnseeds1 · 27/02/2021 22:57

But to be honest, I'm relieved not to hear from her for the time being...

justasking111 · 27/02/2021 23:00

All this telling people to stay locked away, reminded me of something that has given me a few shivers in the past year. I feel as if we are slipping back to the fifties. Barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen

@Weedsnseeds1 glad you’re feeling less weight on your shoulders after distancing from your mum. I have distanced myself from mine and I feel so much better-shes got issues with being spiteful and cold to intentionally hurt me and I can’t take it anymore- I think she forgets I’m not a child anymore.

@smallandimperfectlyformed I didn’t think it through, we got all the foods from the kebab shop and I think I’m going to have to wait for my food to go down BlushGrin

Piers is definitely mad but everyone should be scared that he’s not allowed to say what he wants to say. It sets such a dangerous precedent.

This reminds me a bit of that old nursery rhyme

Peter, Peter, pumpkin eater
Had a wife and couldn’t keep her
He put her in a pumpkin shell
And there he kept her very well

ISaySteadyOn · 28/02/2021 10:34

Wow. Feels silly but I never understood that rhyme until just now. Eurgh! That's awful.

OP posts:
CruCru · 28/02/2021 10:52

Yeah, it’s quite dark isn’t it? I think a lot of nursery rhymes are like that.

LadyCounterblast · 28/02/2021 11:24

I did a unit at university on Angela Carter, and her retelling of fairy and folk tales (The Bloody Chamber). Some of the reworks are pretty radical but the basic themes remain the same, and extremely dark.

SirSamuelVimes · 28/02/2021 11:39

Love Angela Carter. Used to enjoy teaching The Bloody Chamber for A level English lit.

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 28/02/2021 12:42

Also love Angela Carter. Wrote about The Passion of New Eve for my MA. I often wonder whether it's being taught any more with the current mood about gender.

LadyCounterblast · 28/02/2021 13:03

Yes it would be interesting to know. I also guessed I’d find some other Carter aficionados on here! My course was wall-to-wall Angela Carter, Margaret Atwood and Marina Warner. Ooh and Rose Tremain.

Curlygirl06 · 28/02/2021 13:19

Good afternoon from our mascot! She's had a few days of not eating but she's back on form today.

Big hugs to everyone struggling, it's hard but we're getting there slowly.

Sun is shining, birds are singing, spring is just around the corner. ( but if I see that "Look into their eyes advert I'll snap!) but ignoring that, things are OK ish here.
