How much alcohol is unreasonable?

CrazyFoxLady · 21/02/2021 00:11

So... I've just nearly finished my 2nd bottle of wine and wondering how unusual that is? Not a regular event but quite standard for a Saturday night.
By rights, should I be unconscious by now? Or is this something we are all doing right now?
Quite impressed that I can still type tbf... sending love and hugs to all that need it right now. Albeit slightly alcohol induced ones Thanks

I'm the same. Have had a bottle of wine and enjoying a gin now.
But brace yourself for the shocked and disgusted posters who will tell you it's far too much and that they only have half a glass of wine every other Christmas and maybe a scoof of Smirnoff Ice at a wedding.

MyGoMargot · 21/02/2021 00:18

2 bottles would be unusual for me at home and drinking alone. And at my age.

It is excessive by official guideline standards

Onestep2021 · 21/02/2021 00:18

Am half way through my second bottle. Whether I should be is a different matter.
Not particularly unusual on a weekend..

I know people who will drink 2 bottles of an evening. I'd be sick as a dog if I did. I'll drink half a bottle at most unless I'm out, out with friends and prepared for the inevitable hangover.

I do tend to get through a couple of bottles a week, which isn't ideal.

Cancer risk increases if you drink more than 14 units a week.

Divebar2021 · 21/02/2021 00:20

If it’s usual for a Saturday night then it is by definition a regular event. Now to your question... We’re not all doing it no but you don’t want to hear that so I shall leave you to it. Hope you enjoy your evening.

MissDollyMix · 21/02/2021 00:20

I like a drink and usually have a glass of wine most nights. I think I probably drink more than most of my friends. Tonight I had a g&t and two small glasses of wine (which is more than usual) I would be quite ill if I drank 2 bottles of wine!

cheeseismydownfall · 21/02/2021 00:21

If I drank two bottles of wine I would be unconscious. When I came round, I imaging I would be ill for a week. I can drink about half a bottle max, and even then I'll feel the effect the next day. A single glass (and I'm talking a small glass) is the most I can drink to avoid any hangover. I haven't always been like this - since I hit 40 I just cannot handle drink at all.

AlexaShutUp · 21/02/2021 00:22

I'm neither shocked nor disgusted - we all have our coping mechanisms, so no judgement here. However, I don't think it's "normal" to drink that much (though it's probably very common) and it definitely isn't healthy.

The fact that you have posted suggests that you might have some concerns. Perhaps time to reflect on how much you're drinking?

fabulousspider · 21/02/2021 00:23

Once in a blue moon that would be ok, as a regular occurrence like weekly, too much for one person (from someone who used to drink too much!). I'd say a bottle max. Maybe slightly over if you think you could handle it.

RampantIvy · 21/02/2021 00:23

Two bottles is quite a lot, sorry.

I'm not one of those who only drinks half a glass of sherry every other Christmas Grin, but two bottles of wine in one sitting is 18 - 20 units of alcohol.

DH and I get through about 3 bottles of wine between us per week - drunk on 3 different days.

Beforethetakingoftoastandt3a · 21/02/2021 00:23

If youre asking how much is too much, you already know it is.

Notashandyta · 21/02/2021 00:26

Refreshing to see some honesty!

I have sunk three quarters of a bottle and do pretty regularly, as in most nights of the week (hubby drinks a glass)

Two bottle is alot tho, even for me. How are you the next day?

CrazyFoxLady · 21/02/2021 00:27

I already knew the answer I think. Just how I'm feeling right now. Maybe a cry for help, I don't know? I know it's unreasonable, but thinking I have no fucks to give right now.
I know I'll feel like shit tomorrow, I know it's bad for my health etc.
Anyone else feel like this? 🤦‍♀️

TableFlowerss · 21/02/2021 00:28

This was me last week.... well, after one bottle of wine. I couldn’t drink two or I’d be absolutely hammered. And it would only be once a week I could drink a bottle of wine in one night, but my tolerance level is definitely increasing though.

Lockdown is hard for many reasons so a couple of glasses a week more than usual does not an alcoholic make.... enjoy

sonnysunshine · 21/02/2021 00:30

I drink most nights but a bottle sends me a bit rough the next day. Two so would be paralytic and awful for a couple of days.

CrazyFoxLady · 21/02/2021 00:31

I'm just impressed that I can still spell to be honest. Night night lovelies x

OP posts:
sonnysunshine · 21/02/2021 00:31

So yes it is too much. Nowt you can do now bit hold it in next week.

mm40 · 21/02/2021 00:31

2 bottles is a lot according to government guidelines.

I think the bigger questions are - how is it effecting your daily life? Are you sacrificing events (although COVID has screwed that) to drink rather than go out? Are you sacrificing other treats so that you can afford to drink? New carpets/ sofa/ tv / car etc? How is it affecting work? And most importantly is it affecting relationships with friends, family etc?

greenlynx · 21/02/2021 00:32

Imo 2 bottles of wine is unreasonable, sorry but you’ve asked. I would say half a bottle max in one evening.
I wouldn’t be unconscious after 2 bottles I would be violently sick.

RoSEbuds6 · 21/02/2021 00:34

I am a bit of a binge drinker so make sure I only have a small amount of alcohol in the house. Never have spirits, one bottle of wine only. That’s what keeps me on the straight and narrow. Making sure I don’t have the choice. Good luck op, the self loathing is awful [hug]

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/02/2021 00:36

If you come back to this thread in the morning, with the hangover terrors and cringe... don't. Just ask for what you need.

Two bottles every Saturday plus... Friday, during the week, what's happening then?

AlwaysLatte · 21/02/2021 00:36

I drink only at the weekends but I'd be pretty unwell the next day if I had a whole bottle. Extremely ill on two, I think. I'd be having a month or two break to lower my tolerance if I were you.

CrazyFoxLady · 21/02/2021 00:37

Tempted to say 'fuck the government guidelines' seeing as the government is a pile of shite. Not quite managed 2 bottles, but nearly.
I think that there's too many other things going on in my life, and this is my coping mechanism. Right or wrong, that's my life right now. Night night again, actually going to bed this time x

OP posts:
AlwaysLatte · 21/02/2021 00:39

Drink some water to help your head in the morning x

JudgeRindersMinder · 21/02/2021 00:39

It wouldn’t be my idea of fun these days (I’ve gone off alcohol for no reason in particular), but I’ve certainly done it more than once in the past
