Little moons - has anyone else tried the hype?

The ice cream mochi, sold out for weeks in our local Tesco. My daughter today begged me to try and find some. An eye watering £4.50 for 6. ..not going to lie they are pretty damn yummy.

Anyone else got their kids asking for these?

Never heard of them. So no!

ifitpleasesandsparkles · 20/02/2021 19:35

No but they look adorable. I've never tasted mochi though. They look like the kind of thing where the advertised calories end up irrelevant because you eat half the box anyway.

ThatsnotmyBorishishairistoneat · 20/02/2021 19:36

They are ok

LagneyandCasey · 20/02/2021 19:39

Just goes to show the power of tiktok or wherever the trend has come from! I got them for dd just so she would stop going on about them. They're ok but not worth the money. Probably won't buy them again.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 20/02/2021 19:41

I know! I blame tiktok. When we found a box there was a girl probably about 16 asking dad 13 where she found them. Crazy fad.

Not managed to find them in stock anywhere but keep looking.

Exhausteddog · 20/02/2021 19:46

My DD asked me to get some "if they were not too expensive" (she knows I am a bargain fan Grin
Anyway I looked the last 2 times Ive been shopping but not found them (it doesn't really help that I'm not entirely sure what i'm looking for!)
This week it was lady gaga oreos which, it turns out are just oreos in a different packet! Hmm but they were the same price as the others so she got those!

PeggyMoo · 20/02/2021 19:48

What’s the deal on Tiktok? A friend recommended them and I liked them but not worth the money for the size of them!

SellFridges · 20/02/2021 19:49

We had some ages ago from ocado. They were meh.

They’re all over tiktok

FlyingFlamingo · 20/02/2021 19:49

I must be ahead of the times because I happened upon these months ago in our local Chinese supermarket and bought some, they are ok but not worth trekking to several shops for and they are very overpriced, they are teeny. If you have an oriental shop locally try there.

EloiseTheFirst · 20/02/2021 19:50

Yes we've had to buy them at DD's insistence.

They're gross. The weird jelly stuff on the outside is horrible.

I told DD that it was like The Emperors New Clothes. - Nobody likes them but doesn't want to admit to it because they're "trendy". Grin

Hoppinggreen · 20/02/2021 19:50

We’ve been getting them for a while from Ocado, Mango and Passionfruit is my favourite . Would love to try the cookies and cream but can’t get them - probably due to the hype

JillyWillyPops · 20/02/2021 19:53

My 10 year old got some from Asda the other day. He description was... 'mum they're like saggy ball skin' 🤢🤮🤢

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 20/02/2021 19:59

Hahaha ewwww saggy ball skin!

MustardMitt · 20/02/2021 20:11

I haven’t heard about them but I don’t like mochi. Horrible.

Mumsnet being rude about another culture's food. Never change, eh?
ivfbabymomma1 · 20/02/2021 20:14

I want to try them but what's the skin made out of it? And what is it?

TriciaMcMillan · 20/02/2021 20:19

We were distinctly underwhelmed.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 20/02/2021 20:22

They're rubbery and rank.

DayBath · 20/02/2021 20:28

Calm down @sallyballynally, it was just a comical observation on the texture.

Trust MN to turn everything into some sort of cultural or racial hate crime. My daughter once giggled at a sausage and said it looked like a willy, I bet you could also turn that one into something to clutch your pearls over.

Noflora · 20/02/2021 20:30

Just delicious. Ocado have sold these for a while, Passionfruit and Mango are my favourite. The glutinous rice skin might be an acquired texture thing but my family acquired the love of it years ago. I was so excited to find these, rolling my eyes that they are now a hyped thing. I suppose that means they won't be on a multi deal again any time soon.

Totallydefeated · 20/02/2021 20:34

They’ve been in Whole Foods for years. They’re ok. Kind of meh. You’re better off with a tub of decent ice cream, but it’s not quite as Tik Toky or Instagrammable.

ChronicallyCurious · 20/02/2021 20:45

They’re disgusting

yuyubooboo · 20/02/2021 22:10

I love mochi and had them a lot when living in Japan. I like the mochi in sushi places in the uk but little moons filling is just ice cream rather than the filling of true mochi so it's nothing wild. So I do occasionally buy it, but it's not amazing.

Admittedly though, due to allergies I can't eat the cookie one so I just eat the mango ones. They aren't worth £4,50!

SirenSays · 20/02/2021 22:14

I buy a box of the salted caramel ones everytime I get a delivery from the Asian supermarket. Soo good, I never knew they were trendy.
