Opinions on my weight

Please be kind... I thought about posting this in AIBU but I thought this would be safer.

I have lost a lot of weight recently, but I still feel fat. I don't know if I have a problem mentally or whether I am 'skinny fat'. I can't post a photo so maybe this won't be too helpful. But I am 5'3 and weigh 7 stone 10lbs.

Do you think that weight sounds about average?

OP posts:
Meltedwellie · 20/02/2021 18:29

I think that sounds well below average but still a healthy weight.

Fembot123 · 20/02/2021 18:30

It depends on your build but I’d say that’s a healthy weight for your height, on the lower side. Skinny fat people have a poor diet and tend to be naturally slim despite what they eat

Fembot123 · 20/02/2021 18:31

Oh and it takes ages for your brain to catch up with your weight loss hence the feeling of still being fat

SophieB100 · 20/02/2021 18:31

Sounds a very good weight to me OP.
For what it's worth, I lost 4 stone a couple of years ago, I am taller than you and a size 10. I know, from the scales and the mirror, that I'm now slim - but I still feel fat. Perhaps it takes a while for our brains to catch up with the weight loss?

PurpleDaisies · 20/02/2021 18:32

You are only 4lb off the very bottom of the healthy range for your height. You can’t possibly be fat.

Have you had eating or body image issues before?

LIZS · 20/02/2021 18:32

Sounds on the lighter side. I was similar younger (as is dd) and tbh it is skinny, not fat at all. Size 6/8?

SophieB100 · 20/02/2021 18:32

Cross posts with @Fembot123!

KitchenFairy · 20/02/2021 18:33

I’m same height and weight as you and a size 8.

RampantIvy · 20/02/2021 18:33

Your weight is at the lower end of a healthy weight range.

You are not overweight.

trilbydoll · 20/02/2021 18:34

That's well below average, surely you're fitting in size 6/8 clothes? That in itself should tell you that objectively you can't be fat. I'm 2 stone heavier than you at the same height and I'm only a size 12.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/02/2021 18:36

It's the low end of a healthy weight. There is no health benefit to being lighter. All bodies need some fat to function healthily.

Do you exercise? Do you need to build muscle. This could result in a gain, but would be metabolically healthy.

Do you normally have a healthy and realistic perspective of your body and it's just taking a while to catch up?

For perspective, you could hypothetically weigh two stone more and be at the top end of of the healthy zone. (Obviously that depends on individuals' body composition)

Itsokthanks · 20/02/2021 18:37

It's a healthy weight, maybe you just need to tone up. You're definitely not fat.

Chunkymenrock · 20/02/2021 18:37

Hmm How can you possibly be overweight at that weight? Of course you're not fat FGS. What's with these crazy threads tonight?

Chunkymenrock · 20/02/2021 18:44

In fact it sounds quite underweight for your height.

LIZS · 20/02/2021 18:46

If you have managed your weight down that far, are you now maintaining it or still using the same regime to lose more? How did you lose it? Agree if you feel “fat” it is probably more that you need to tone to your new size rather than lose any more weight. Low bmi can adversely affect your body.

changi · 20/02/2021 18:47

It's a healthy weight according to the NHS.

PurpleDaisies · 20/02/2021 18:48

By 4lb. It’s right at the bottom end of healthy.

Fembot123 · 20/02/2021 18:48

It’s not.
changi · 20/02/2021 18:49

By 4lb. It’s right at the bottom end of healthy.

But still healthy and not underweight.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 20/02/2021 18:50

Definitely not fat. I'm 5'6" and weigh about 9 stone and feel pretty slim

well done on the weight loss!

changi · 20/02/2021 18:54

Isn't skinny fat used to describe somebody who is very slim but has poor muscle tone? That could be true in the OP's case.

Fembot123 · 20/02/2021 18:54

@changi

Isn't skinny fat used to describe somebody who is very slim but has poor muscle tone? That could be true in the OP's case.
No, it is someone who is naturally slim but has a poor diet leading to internal visceral fat.
Onthelowdown · 20/02/2021 19:03

Same height, currently 12 stone. That IS fat. I don’t think there’s scope for you to be fat below 8 stone.

CottonSock · 20/02/2021 19:06

Sounds pretty slim (skinny) to me. Don't get carried away op

CavernousScream · 20/02/2021 19:07

You might not guess it from many of the threads referring to food or weight, but Mumsnet isn’t actually a pro-ana site. You should not be looking to lose more weight at your weight and if you’re continuing to try to, you should probably seek help from your GP.
