Opinions on my weight

Please be kind... I thought about posting this in AIBU but I thought this would be safer.

I have lost a lot of weight recently, but I still feel fat. I don't know if I have a problem mentally or whether I am 'skinny fat'. I can't post a photo so maybe this won't be too helpful. But I am 5'3 and weigh 7 stone 10lbs.

Do you think that weight sounds about average?

I'm exactly the same height and weight as you and definitely regard myself as too slim. Been like it all my life so it's totally normal and ok for me but not in a million years could you be considered even remotely fat at that weight. Do you really look in the mirror and see overweight? That would concern me I must say.

Quartz2208 · 20/02/2021 19:12

I think few people at that height weigh less than you OP so I think whilst just within a healthy weight it isnt an average weight for you for height at all.

If you still think you are fat it is a psychological issue rather than physical because you certainly arent.

What makes you feel fat - are you mistaking weight for fitness and feeling unfit.

People treat you so differently when you’re fat compared to slim.

This comments and treatment stick with us far longer than we spend losing the weight.

I’ve lost a 2.5 stone bow and can slip in a pair of size 16 jeans 👖 over my arse. I can’t do them up yet but 6mths ago I couldn’t even get them past my thighs.

I know I’m slimmer but I’m still fat in my head. Still conscious of my ‘fat’ body getting in the way even though it’s not and I’m still amazed daily I can do things with a bit more ease like tying my shoes.

I still ‘feel’ people staring and making comments about me. The time my sister made a big deal of me losing weight like it was an attack on her still stings. The time my mother made a big deal of her weight being less than mine.

It all sticks like shite on a shovel and it’s taking therapy to get over that, to work through that it was about them - the people commenting on my size, my family response to my size - it was all about them and their fears not me.

I’m not huge now. I’m average but still wearing most of my fat clothes, covid innit. Hard to buy stuff when I don’t quite know how my new shape fits with different Jean styles etc or what dresses work best when online most look utter shite Confused

So it’s probably a whole host of things making you feel like you’re ‘fat’.

Why don't you put it in a BMI calculator OP and then you'll get an actual, objective indication of where you fall on the overweight - underweight spectrum.

Why would you ask strangers on the internet who will all have different subjective versions of "fat"?

dingoesatemybaby · 20/02/2021 19:15

Well you are certainly not overweight!!

Maybe try some weight training to tone up and build muscle if you want to feel a bit more svelte? Certainly don't try losing anymore weight. Loads of extra health benefits to building muscle too.

All these posts telling her she’s underweight could be encouraging an anorexic that what she’s doing is working.

ThreeTwoOneBlastOff · 20/02/2021 21:18

Not a chance you’re overweight. That was my weight pre children, I’m 8st 7 now.
