Hi,

It really is just that.

Strange? A bit sad? Possibly, but could really do with a bit of distraction right now tbh.

So, how has everyone's day been?

SingToTheSky · 17/02/2021 20:31

My day has been... mixed! Thank you for asking.

I’ve been anxious lately but it was starting to improve today - I finally managed to get some more of my assignment done and have arranged an extension as I’m not really coping with this latest lockdown.

The evening has been improved by Chinese takeaway. I am having crispy chilli beef for the second time and ohhhh how did I take so long to discover it?

SingToTheSky · 17/02/2021 20:32

And I don’t think it’s sad to want to chat. How was your day? I know the feeling of wanting distraction :) Thanks

TheChip · 17/02/2021 20:35

Hiya. My day hasn't been too bad thanks. I got ready today for a change, instead of sitting in my pj's.
I also expanded on my cooking skills and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had to try out my new steamer! I dont know why I haven't bought one before now as they are brilliant.

I also realised that if I put a lid over the dumplings that they would rise!! I've had flatish dumplings for years Blush has to have been the best part of my day seeing those fluffy but crispy dumplings!

What has been the best thing of your day today?

lucysmam · 17/02/2021 20:39

Mine's been steady, thanks for asking :)

I did my Rainbows and Guides accounts for the year to now (about 12 transactions between them), while both girls had a lie in. They're adding up properly this time around! Took in an Amazon delivery of ppe/sanitizer for if & when we can meet in person again.

Did some washing & started growing some sugar crystals with dd2, attempted making hard boiled sweets, and fed her praying mantis 2 flies.

The mantis runs away from the flies, which is quite funny to watch - he's so speedy, unless I pass them to him with the tweezers 🙄 He won't take them from dd2.

& I'm not convinced the sweets will work, but we'll see.

We had pancake day today instead of yesterday so we could have the fresh fruit off my Tesco shop with them

I'm just about to get my crochet out for a while before heading to bed early ish.

How's your day been @MargaritasAndFajitas? :)

SingToTheSky · 17/02/2021 20:41

Ooh dumplings! My heart used to sink when my Nan made them but now I quite like them, never tried making them though. I love gnocchi too.

My favourite thing today - probably that I finally relented and cut DD1’s hair, she’s 13 and has never had a proper paid haircut as I normally just trim it to around her shoulders. But she wanted it shorter (chin length) and obviously nobody else can do it right now! But it worked well and she’s absolutely made up with it, so I’m really pleased and it suits her much more than I thought it would!

Also that my DH was lovely and bought an extra raid pass to help me catch a Pokémon I needed 😳 he is nice and we are both total nerds 😂

MargaritasAndFajitas · 17/02/2021 20:41

Hi @SingToTheSky, glad you're starting to feel a bit better. Hmm I'm on the fence with crispy beef actually. I can have it as a side, but as a main it just feels too naughty Grin

My day hasn't been too bad really. Like you though, I have been struggling quite a bit with anxiety recently. Trying to avoid the news as much as possible, but it's almost impossible!

Anyway, dp made a lovely dinner tonight and dd tidied her room....unprompted 🤔 I should just be happy, but I'm more suspicious haha!

OP posts:
SingToTheSky · 17/02/2021 20:43

Lucys I am SO jealous you have a mantis! What kind is it? I would love one.

DatingDickheads · 17/02/2021 20:43

Hello 👋 not sad or strange!

Im feeling down because I’m not being productive and can’t be productive because I feel down! So I’m drinking Prosecco!

PursuingProxemicExactitude · 17/02/2021 20:44

What has been the best thing of your day today?

Woke up before 5am and forced myself to open the laptop and try my best with a report type thing I've been stalling over for weeks. Deadline tomorrow and I had nothing but shapeless notes.

Whole introduction written before breakfast! Which meant the rest all fell into place. So relieved.

Second best was some ruinously extravagant wine arriving in time for a celebration next week.

Now, if only I could start using my steamer for its intended purpose, rather than as an ultra pretty fruit bowl ...

Anything in particular you need distraction from, OP?

SingToTheSky · 17/02/2021 20:46

An unprompted room tidy always freaks me out a bit too 😂

It’s a very anxiety provoking time at the moment. Distraction is definitely a good plan! I’m on new meds (for ADHD) and unfortunately they flared it up a lot but hopefully it’ll get better soon.

NovemberR · 17/02/2021 20:48

Steady, is perhaps the best way to describe it. I'm in long Covid and am suffering from post viral fatigue. Some days are good, some are not. Today is ok.

Today I got up at 2pm, which is probably about average (I was in bed at 9.00pm last night). Still felt very tired. Put some washing in machine. Lay on sofa for a bit and sang to DDog who came to lie with me. Came on Mumsnet for a bit.

Have eaten shepherd's pie which DH cooked. Talked to my teenage DS who will eat tea with us in a token effort at spending time with the old people. Have pinned together the lining to a curtain. (I am making a pair of curtains for my bedroom, but can generally manage about 20 mins before I'm flagging, so I'm expecting to have them up by Easter Grin) Tomorrow I may sew the sides together.

Am now thinking about heading to bed.

MargaritasAndFajitas · 17/02/2021 20:48

@TheChip, I would have been very excited by those dumplings, so I get it Grin

Best part of my day was actually when I woke up and realised I had slept really well! That's not to say that it was all downhill from there, but my goodness, how good does a decent nights sleep feel?! Especially when it's a rarity.

@lucysmam, your day sounds much more productive than mine!

Hello all
Waves to

My day hasn't been great. It's also my birthday and a lockdown birthday can only be crap.

Also, I can say this on an anonymous board, but my best friend is famous for buying terrible presents.

I am trying desperately to declutter the flat in my spare time. The gift, sent by post, went straight in the bin and I don't even feel guilty. But I'm going to start feeling guilty about not feeling guilty...

I am hoping tomorrow will be better. I got on my own nerves, drank too much coffee to get more work done than I actually needed to do, didn't answer any non work calls except my mother who kept saying "you sound upset, why are you upset" but she literally forgets there is a lockdown.

Anyway, that was a rant. Sorry OP you probably wish you hadn't asked!

AcornAutumn · 17/02/2021 20:51

November I love that you sang to the dog, that made me smile.

NovemberR · 17/02/2021 20:51

Sorry people are feeling anxious. I keep telling myself that Spring is on the way and that always makes me feel a bit more hopeful! We've got snowdrops out at the moment, that I can see under the trees.

It's been a long winter, I know.

moonlight1705 · 17/02/2021 20:52

It is half term so have take the week off. So far we have fitted our new shed with tool racks, hooks and shelves all for only £60 so feeling pretty pleased with myself.

We now don't have piles of rubbish in the greenhouse so spring ready now.

Made a nice chicken and spinach pie for dinner and now watching Kirstie and Phil.

Always feels better having a good night's sleep.

lucysmam · 17/02/2021 20:53

@SingToTheSky he's an orchid, called Errol. He's fascinating & they're easier to care for than I expected! I also didn't expect him to be so speedy though (seriously, blink & he's gone kind of speedy!), or to jump! I've attached a couple of pics. I have a couple where you can see the spikes on his raptors too, but not sure if anyone would be squeamish about the fly he's munching.

Happy Birthday Acorn Wine Cake Flowers

NovemberR · 17/02/2021 20:56

@AcornAutumn I constantly sing to the dog. Smile He's an uncritical audience.

If you sing the Fishy in a Dishy Song he bounces about like Tigger because he knows it's teatime! It goes, Would you like a fishy, on a little dishy? Would you like a fishy when the boat comes in...

Because we've got salmon cat food at the moment as he prefers it to manly dog meat...

TheChip · 17/02/2021 20:56

Happy birthday! @AcornAutumn sorry your day has been a bit rubbish, but hey at least you are making progress on decluttering. Lol at the fact it was a present from your friend, but its better going now instead of adding to the clutter you're trying to get rid of Grin

NovemberR · 17/02/2021 20:57

Happy Birthday, btw!

Exactly this! I thought about keeping it for a bit but what for?!

I am trying to learn from the philosophy of "it's not your stuff that's a problem, it's your attachment to the stuff".

MargaritasAndFajitas · 17/02/2021 21:02

@DatingDickheads, ah, that's an unfortunate loop to be in. I know it well. Enjoy your prosecco 🥂 and here's to tomorrow being a better day. Hopefully not starting with a hangover Grin

@PursuingProxemicExactitude, a lot of different things really, but overall it's just my anxiety. My brain just feels a bit too full of worry, which isn't much fun, but I know I'm certainly not alone in feeling that.

@SingToTheSky, glad it's not just me! Dp just said I should be happy, which I was, externally, but inside I was thinking 'what has she done?' Or 'what does she want?' Hopefully it's just an adjustment period with your meds.

@NovemberR, sorry to hear that. Sounds like you've had a very productive day too though!

@MargaritasAndFajitas

If it's helpful I read something online this year about 'Ruminating' which is actually a word I love because it makes me feel I'm intelligently pondering things.

However - apparently it's not good to ruminate! I've linked an article below, which might help, but when I find myself stressing about things (generally the same things you keep on going back to in your head) I tell myself You're RUMINATING! Stop it and at least I'm aware of getting caught up in a cycle of being anxious.

This might help someone at least!
