Pancakes - eat as you make or make a stack?

I can never seem to work this out.... do you find it easier to make a load, bring to table and eat together....

Or standing making them one by one and accept that we're not all sitting down together ?

We do savory and sweet....

I think I have great intentions but they tend to get swiped and eaten as soon as made 🤣

We stand up in the kitchen and eat them straight from the pan.

Sparklingbrook · 16/02/2021 16:48

We eat as we make, so everyone gets their's at a different time but it means they're hot.

We only do sweet though.

halcyondays · 16/02/2021 16:50

Eat as you make so they’re hot.

I miss going out to eat pancakes Sad

fallingsnowflakes · 16/02/2021 16:52

If we do savoury I make lots, fill, cover with cheese sauce and bake. Sweet is eat as you make 😋

TheChosenTwo · 16/02/2021 16:53

I cook them using 2 frying pans and the dc eat them as and when they’re cooked - once they’ve been sitting around for long enough to make a stack you’ve lost that crispness.
I don’t mind not sitting down and eating them all at the same time, it’s pancakes not christmas dinner! Plus, we make pancakes a lot anyway so it’s not a rare event here.

Rockbird · 16/02/2021 16:54

I stand and make 5000 of them, passing them on to sticky plates as they're done. They are scoffed and sticky plates come back for more. When I have finished making 5000 pancakes and everyone feels sick, I get to eat the manky first one (cold) that is always rubbish and the tiny last one because there wasn't quite enough mixture left but at least it's warm.

Can you feel the resentment? Grin

StandardLampski · 16/02/2021 16:56

Ah, glad we are not the only knew standing eating in the kitchen though!

I like the sound of the stack of savory with cheese sauce though! Will plan to do that another Time!

Eat as I make then one of the Dc makes them for me.

I remember going to a friends house for pancake day once and her Mum had made them in the morning and then microwaved them. They were not good pancakes.

CBAtoWalk · 16/02/2021 16:57

I make a big stack, then reheat as required in a dry frying pan.

Leftovers go in the fridge, then get reheated with ham, egg and cheese.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/02/2021 16:57

Eat as they are made, but no one gets a second one until the maker has had their first. If more than one adult, the second adult takes over at the pan while adult one eats.

Are you my DH 😂😂😂
magicstar1 · 16/02/2021 17:00

DH puts a big pot of boiling water on, with a large plate on top. He puts the pancakes on it to stay hot until he has a stack.

IaltagDhubh · 16/02/2021 17:00

Stack kept hot in the oven. Otherwise I don’t get any.

BeyondMyWits · 16/02/2021 17:01

Made them yesterday, savoury rolled round chicken and chorizo (red peppers, garlic), covered in cheese and baked. Another load rolled individually on a metal tray - will be put in the oven at high heat for just a few minutes to heat through after savoury ones are eaten - come out with crispy edges then drenched in lemon and sugar. We eat together.

needadvice54321 · 16/02/2021 17:02

We just go round in circles, normally DS and I make them so if either of us is eating the other is watching the pan. I'd like to find a way to eat them all together but I've never tried cooking and keeping them in a stack in the oven or anything. Maybe today we should try it!

campion · 16/02/2021 17:03

Rockbird
Hide some batter (fridge, cupboard) and make your own later. Much later!
Though after making 5000 you're probably sick of the sightGrin

pettyprudence · 16/02/2021 17:07

I'm the same as @Rockbird
Dh does offer to take over but the DC reject his pancake making skills.

I don't know why we make such a fuss of pancake day in our house, because we eat them fairly frequently. I still set a reminder in my calendar for this morning though and still excited Grin I was born on pancake day so maybe that's why?

HeadNorth · 16/02/2021 17:11

Take in turns to make, toss and scoff our pancakes until we are all sated sick.

MixedUpFiles · 16/02/2021 17:13

Stack them on a plate in a warm oven as they are cooked. Serve giant stacks at the table all at once.

Deathraystare · 17/02/2021 08:53

You can always make ahead and either put in fridge or freeze or do what I do and have Mr Sainsbury's make them for you! Of course I put the sweetener and lemon on myself though!!!

Mumski45 · 17/02/2021 09:36

Eat as they are made and in our house you make your own. Otherwise I would never get to sit down and eat mine. We have had great fun practicing the flipping and perfecting the art of making a thin but complete pancake that doesn't burn as it hits the pan.
DS1(15) has mastered it now but DS2 (13) tends to let butter get too hot as he messes with the mixture.
It's tricky as we have to use gluten free flour which sinks to the bottom of the mixture as soon as you stop stirring it.

I love pancakes.

TheChosenTwo · 17/02/2021 11:43

Yesterday I used 2 frying pans and it was so much quicker! I mastered the art of the double toss and it just meant I was doubly quick and getting the dc fed. Man can they eat a lot of pancakes though Grin

vinoandbrie · 17/02/2021 11:47

Eat as you make in our house!

Drinkingallthewine · 17/02/2021 11:52

MIL taught me to put a plate over a simmering pot of water, with a pot lid over that again.

As you fry the pancakes add them to the stack on the plate and put the pot lid over them. The warmth and the steam keeps them perfectly warm and stops them getting hard and crispy.

Then we can all eat together.
