Toilet blocked and teenagers

My toilet(only have one) is blocked and as I have three teenagers it's a bit of a nightmare. Tried the coat hanger trick,washing up liquid and hot water. Any other tips? Really can't afford a plumber!

Have you tried basin or bucket of water poured in?

Fairy liquid (squirt loads down, leave for abit) and then chuck a bucket of water down from height. You might need to repeat a few times!

Double bun bag your arm and go in with your hand. Remove as much stuff as possible. Then hot soapy water and a mop used as a plunger - unless you have a plunger.

Get the loo brush and push it in and out of the toilet (right down to the exit pipe) with as much force as you can. Keep going until you get a whoosh. This creates a suction effect and often works when nothing else has.

Fill a bucket with water, hold it high above the toilet and pour it in.

Get your rubber gloves on and have a good feel around. Often it's just compacted loo roll and ... stuff 🤢🤮. If so, you should feel and hear the suction and hopefully the loo should empty. Best of luck.

Have you tried a plunger? If you can't push the blockage through you need to suck it back, so to speak Grin

Carrier bag around your mop and use as a plunger should shift anything.

Go to Wilco and get a plunger. I had 3 teenagers in the house last summer and the inevitable happened. Plunger worked a treat but be gentle and rhythmic.

We have loo roll blocking teens here too. You need a large plunger.

Is the blockage definitely in the toilet or could it be further along the pipes? Do you know where your inspection chamber is? Look there and you might find the problem. It will be where the toilet pipe meets the main drain, and should have an accessible cover.

I had a blockage that wouldn’t shift in the toilet no matter what I did and it turned out it was bamboo toilet roll backed all the way up from the toilet to the drain! Managed to sort it without a plumer, but with the help of. Very kind neighbour!

Second a plunger OP but can't say I've ever been gentle with it!

Plunger is the first recourse! For god's sake don't throw in more water until you've got some movement.

I will go into details and it will be TMI. This was the height of lockdown when everything was shut so I couldn’t get a plumber. I didn’t want to break the pipes, get any splash back or anything yucky. Slow, gentle movements worked a treat: the suction caused the blockage to turn into mush and after half an hour of toilet bowl mstrbtn and regular flushing the loo became usable again.

The bastard teenagers have broken the loo again this week and only a plumber can fix the arsing push button mechanism.

Cut the bottom off a 2litre bottle of pop, leave the lid on. Use as a plunger. Works in seconds every time!

Cut the Bottom quarter off a 2Lt soft drink bottle, and use like a plunger. It may take a few attempts. Always worked for me.

I hope you're sorted by now, but I just wanted to second the "arm in a carrier bag" approach. Just make sure it's a massive carrier bag. Grab, remove, and turn bag inside out if it's a big blockage, then bin and wash whole of arms repeatedly to get over the trauma. Then train teenagers in how to unblock the toilet for next time.

Wrap a mop in an old towel (one you don't mind throwing away if necessary) and duct tape 2 bin bags around this - use as a massive plunger. I've had to do this a couple of times over the years and this has always worked.

You can also stick a couple of sheets of cling film over the basin, stick it down and flush, which also creates a vacuum / suction. Like the fizzy pop bottle idea, I didn't know that one.

You used to be able to get this fabulous stuff called "One Shot" from the local hardware shop. Had a yellow label. It was lethal stuff but shifted ANYTHING, but you now have to have a licence for it, as it was being used in acid attacks.

If you have tried a lot of stuff to unblock the toilet, it might not be the toilet, it might be the drains outside.
